Professor Wolfgang Merkel, Professor of Political Science at the Humboldt University Berlin, draws on his extensive research and practical involvement with social democratic parties in Europe and Latin America to consider how social democracy needs to develop and adapt to a rapidly changing world. He is joined by Professor Geoff Gallop, former Premier, Western Australia and Director of the Graduate School of Government, University of Sydney, Professor Robert Manne, Professor of Politics and Convenor of the Ideas & Society Program at La Trobe University and Professor Marilyn Lake, Professor in History at La Trobe University. The symposium chair is Dr Stefan Auer.
