Does Your Spirituality Work in the Toilet Paper Aisle?
Heads up – we are NOT meeting at Creative Manitoba. They are closed. But we’re still (kind of) meeting. More on that further down in the blurb.
It’s really tempting to explore something utterly unrelated to Covid-19, just to breathe different air. I realize we could have a long journey ahead of us yet, and I don’t want to be dance around something that is very serious, but sometimes I do feel we need to get our heads up out of the endless deluge of information on that topic just to keep from drowning in it. We can always wade back in, right?
I also know that a season like this can bring us face-to-face with ourselves both as individuals and as a society in ways that have important learning opportunities built into them, and I don’t want to let those go by without attending to them. So this week in the Talky Bit (delivered in a whole new way – more on that below), I’m going to explore the timely topic of the relationship between our spirituality (in particular what sort of narrative we understand other humans through) and the ways we behave in the toilet paper aisle. What can I say…it was an irresistible target.
Now – about how we’re “getting together”. Our Leadership Team (special thanks to Judi H. in particular) has established a Facebook page for The Table. We’ll be live streaming to that page on Sunday morning starting at 10:45 a.m. You’ll have to supply your own coffee, fishy crackers and/or timbits (and Kids Table!)…but there will be some music and a chance to share some of what is on your mind and heart with the community, and I’ll stream a Talky Bit. When the live stream wraps up, it’ll stay on the Facebook page so you can access it any time. Once we get this all sorted, I expect we’ll also be able to put up the podcasts on our web page as usual, just in case Facebook isn’t your thing or you can’t access it.
Because I’m a Facebook neophyte, I asked Judi to write something about how to find / join in time for Sunday morning. As follows:
To try to stay connected during this very weird time in history we’re attempting to use technology in a way that also recognizes the PITA Principle – that our solutions are hopefully not a Pain In The… you get it.
We have formed a Facebook Group – The Table Church – and had a gravity defying test-run last Sunday (ever heard of preaching sideways?) using Livestream to broadcast the gathering.
We are keeping the group private in order to honour the way Tablers often communicate – freely and deeply. This means that there are two ways to join the group:
If you try option 2, a search for the group The Table Winnipeg should yield results. It is private but not hidden. Or, use this direct link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/236618827497208/
People that are leading parts of the live stream will be doing so from their own homes, which means we will be stopping one stream and starting another during the morning.
Community Time is the most challenging as we won’t see each other face to face. We are inviting people to use the Facebook page to let each other know the things we would usually share in person.
