Rejoice always.

That can sound almost offensive when you're hurting. When you're in pain. When the days are long and the nights are lonely. When your body won't cooperate, and the losses keep coming.

Rejoice always?

Paul wrote those words from prison. Not from a comfortable life where everything was going well. From a place of real suffering, real difficulty, real uncertainty.

And he still said it. Which means there's something here worth understanding.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul gives three short commands that are deceptively simple and surprisingly difficult: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks. And then he adds something that should settle every question about whether this applies to you: this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Not for certain people in certain seasons. For you. In every circumstance.

This message isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's about discovering a joy that doesn't depend on circumstances, a prayer life that never has to stop, and a gratitude that can find something real to hold onto even on the hardest days.

At the end of a long life, things get clearer. What matters becomes obvious. What doesn't matter falls away.

Joshua was at that point. Old. Dying. Gathering all of Israel for one final address. And what he said cut straight to the heart of everything:

Choose this day whom you will serve.

He'd seen God's faithfulness across an entire lifetime. He'd watched every promise come to pass. He'd led Israel through the conquest of Canaan and the distribution of the land. And after all of it - after everything he'd seen and experienced - his conclusion was simple and clear.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Not "we'll try." Not "we'll see how it goes." We will serve the Lord.

This message is a call to the same clarity. Whatever is behind you, whatever days are ahead - the choice is still in front of you. Not someday. Not eventually.

This day.

As for you... Whom will you serve?

Have you ever made a promise you couldn't keep? Maybe you meant to. Maybe circumstances got in the way. Maybe it just turned out harder than you thought.

We've all broken promises. And because we have, we sometimes wonder if God might too. Will He really come through? Will His promises actually hold up?

Joshua 21 answers that question with one of the most confident declarations in all of Scripture.

Not one word failed.

God made promises to Abraham hundreds of years before this moment. Through slavery in Egypt. Through forty years of wilderness wandering. Through unbelief and failure and delay - God kept working. God kept moving. God kept His word.

Not partially. Not mostly. Every promise. All came to pass.

And if God kept every word He spoke to Israel across hundreds of years, He will keep every word He's spoken to you. His promises don't have an expiration date. They don't weaken over time. They don't depend on your faithfulness. They depend on His.

Not one word has failed. You can count on it.

Have you ever felt like your best days are behind you? Like the most important things you could do for God and for others are already done - and now you're just waiting out the clock?

That's a lie. And an 85-year-old man named Caleb proves it.

Forty-five years earlier, Caleb was one of twelve spies sent to scout the Promised Land. Ten came back afraid. Caleb said trust God and go forward. The nation chose fear - and paid for it with forty years of wilderness wandering.

But Caleb kept following God. Wholeheartedly. Through all of it.

And now, at 85, when it's time to receive his inheritance, Caleb doesn't ask for something easy. He asks for the hardest assignment in the whole Promised Land - the mountain where the giants live.

"It may be that the Lord will be with me," he says. "And I will drive them out just as the Lord said."

Whatever days you have left - however many or few - God isn't finished with you yet. He kept you alive for a reason.

What mountain do you still need to ask for?

Are you ever afraid? Maybe you won't say it out loud, but somewhere inside, there's almost always some kind of fear. Fear about your health. Fear about what's coming. Fear about the future.

Fear is one of the most common human experiences. And it doesn't get easier as we get older.

But God has something to say to that fear. He said it to a man named Joshua thousands of years ago, standing at the edge of an enormous, daunting task with Moses gone and the road ahead uncertain.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Not wherever the road is easy. Not wherever circumstances are favorable. Wherever you go.

This message is for anyone who needs courage today... not the kind that comes from favorable circumstances or personal strength, but the kind that comes from knowing who is with you.

The Lord your God is with you. Wherever you go.

Have you ever wondered if you're really saved? Have you lain awake at night asking: "Do I really have eternal life? What if I'm not good enough? What if I've done too much wrong?"

That kind of uncertainty is exhausting. And it's not what God wants for you.

The apostle John wrote 1 John with one purpose in mind: so that believers could know - not hope, not guess, not wonder... know that they have eternal life.

The answer isn't found in how good you've been, how often you've gone to church, or how hard you've tried. Eternal life is in the Son. And the one who has the Son has the life.

If you believe in the name of the Son of God, John says you can know - right now, today - that you have eternal life. Not someday. Now.

You don't have to wonder anymore.

It's easy to forget what God has done for us. When life is hard, when we're hurting, when the days feel heavy - we drift. We lose sight of His goodness.

In Psalm 103:1-13, David stops and remembers. He talks to his own soul: Don't forget His benefits. And what he remembers moves him to worship.

God forgives every sin. He redeems us from the pit. He crowns us with lovingkindness. He satisfies us with good things. He's slow to anger and abounding in love. He hasn't given us what our sins deserved. And He's removed our transgressions as far as the east is from the west.

But the image that captures it all is this: Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. He knows we are dust. He knows our frailty. And He moves toward us with compassion, not condemnation.

Whatever you're carrying today - don't forget His benefits.

Do you have regrets? Sins from your past that still weigh on you, even after all this time? Maybe you've wondered if God is still willing to forgive you - or if you've worn out His patience.

In 1 John 1:5-9, the apostle John makes a promise that speaks directly to that question: If we confess our sins, God is faithful and righteous to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Not most sin. Not the sins we think are forgivable. All of it.

This message explores what it means to walk honestly before God - not hiding our sin, not pretending we're fine, but confessing openly and trusting His promise. Because forgiveness isn't God overlooking what we've done. It's God applying what Jesus already accomplished on the cross.

Whatever you've carried, however long you've carried it - God is faithful to forgive.

In 1 Peter 5:6-7, the apostle Peter gives a simple but powerful instruction: Humble yourself under God's mighty hand, and cast all your cares on Him - because He cares about you.

Not just about people in general. About you. Personally. Specifically.

This message explores what it means to release our worries to God... not by pretending they don't exist, but by trusting the One who already knows what we carry and invites us to give it to Him. Every fear, every burden, every anxious thought; He cares for it all.

What kind of hope do you have? Real hope... the kind that holds you up when everything else is falling apart.

In 1 Peter 1:3-9, the apostle Peter describes a hope unlike anything this world can offer. He calls it a living hope... alive because Jesus is alive. Grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, this hope points to an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade. It's kept in heaven for you.

And here's what makes this hope different from every other kind: it doesn't depend on your circumstances. It depends on Jesus. Which means you can have inexpressible and glorious joy even in the middle of suffering, trials, and hard days.

Your inheritance is secure. You are shielded by God's power. And the living hope will carry you all the way home.
