Doing A Leeds

The transfer window isn't even open yet, but Leeds Utd have made two new signings...

Thanks to you all for listening in 2020, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and we hope you’ll join us on the other side.

Christmas gets ever nearer and there’s the faint, socially-distanced sound of rustling as Jermaine commits the (should be imprisonable) sin of eating an entire advent calendar during the record (don’t tell his kids). 

He and Matt digest the 3-1 loss to Chelsea and look ahead to the forthcoming clash with West Ham, as well as reflecting on the return of real, actual fans to stadiums.

Matt and Jermaine have been set a big challenge this week - pick an all-time Leeds 5-a-side team - and there’s only one question on everyone’s lips - will Jermaine try to pick himself?

Plus, they reflect over a great win at Everton, and look ahead to the Chelsea match.

This week Matt and Jermaine are joined by arguably Leeds United’s greatest ever goalkeeper, Nigel Martyn. Indisputably  one of the nicest men in football, Nigel talks about his time at Elland Road - being signed by Howard Wilkinson, adapting to George Graham’s style, the heady days of David O’Leary’s reign and how the arrival of Terry Venables signalled the end of his time at the club. It’s a fascinating interview with a stopper who stands fifth in the all-time Premier League clean sheets standings. Oh and Matt asks him about campanology (who knows).

The international break = dull dull dull. However, Jermaine’s thrown open his contacts book and nabbed an interview with one of the most successful Leeds managers in recent history, Simon Grayson. 

The guys talk to Simon about his playing days, leading the Whites to promotion from League One and the memorable FA Cup win over Manchester United (plus his own take on THAT winning goal by a certain striker). Simon also gives us his damning assessment of managing Jermaine, and the guys try to get to the lowdown on life working under Ken Bates.

There’s a dour dose of déjà vu this week as Leeds succumbed to their second successive 4-1 defeat, this time at the hands of Crystal Palace. Jermaine and Matt discuss the key talking points, not least Pat Bamford’s disallowed goal - hands down (outstretched?) the most ridiculous decision made in the history of civilisation - as well as breaking down the other factors that contributed to the defeat. And the guys have news of next week’s special guest...

Serial world champion, multiple Olympic medals, pubs named after him and an all round Leeds legend - Matt and Jermaine are joined by Jonny Brownlee to discuss reaching the pinnacle of his sport and his love for Leeds United.

The guys also reflect on the 4-1 humbling at the hands of Leicester City, a timely reminder of the challenge Marcelo Bielsa’s men face this season.
