In this week’s episode of the Domainer Show we discuss domain name trademark issues and reverse domain name hijacking problems in our own backyard.

It appears many Australian business owners require further education that Australian domain names are valuable digital assets and managers and directors shouldn’t attempt to steal them with vexatious complaints.

Due to this show consisting of some important legal topics, we decided to ask Erhan Karabardak to help us get to the crux of these problems.

Erhan Karabardak is a technology lawyer and Trade Marks Attorney. He is a Director of Cooper Mills Lawyers and has been practising law for more than 20 years.

Erhan is also active in the domain name industry and represents domain name registrars and resellers, and has advised some of the world’s largest domain name registrars. Erhan is recognised as an expert in domain name law and has run some of the leading cases in the area.

In this week’s episode, Rob and Ed talk with Nikki Scholes (Netfleet.com.au) and Peter Tonoli (EFA.org.au), who are working group members of the CMWG (Consultation Model Working Group).

auDA states that the CMWG was formed to:

develop a model of consultation that ensures all auDA members and wider stakeholders of the .au namespace have a chance to provide feedback on the constitutional changes auDA needs to make to meet the Australian Government’s new Terms of Endorsement.

The working group consists of representatives from around Australia from both city and rural areas and includes auDA Demand and Supply Members, small business owners and other industry experts.

On Monday 6th August, the CMWG are holding a second important working group in Melbourne at 5pm at La Trobe University Campus.

In this week’s episode of the Domainer Show, Rob and Ed discuss the purpose of the very first ever Domain Investor Working Group (DIWG) and introduce the 8 members who have agreed to be a part of it.

There’s some very impressive and big-named professional Australian Domain Investor’s who are a part of this!

As previously mentioned on this site, the DIWG’s purpose is to provide specific feedback to The PRP (Policy Review Panel) in relation to the draft direct registration implementation policy, before the proposed model is released for broader public feedback.

The DIWG will all meet for the first time in-person in Melbourne in a few weeks.
