June 29, 2018DOMKcast with Matt Brooks of Like A StormThe epitome of thinking outside the box would be coming up with an idea to make a metal version of “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio. That’s what the guys from Like. A Storm did a few years back and seems to be a fan favorite at their shows. A band compiled of brothers from New Zealand, Like A Storm will be hitting the road with Godsmack and Shinedown in the upcoming months. Matt Brooks was the special guest on episode 63 of the DOMKcast with Lunchbox and Promo Brady. Fresh off their appearance at Rocklahoma, Matt talked about what he prefers in terms of live shows. The brothers have a portable studio that they carry around in a backpack. As Matt alluded to, much of the writing and recording for their latest album Catacombs was done on the road over the course of the last few years. Sometimes the ideas would come to him in the middle of the night perhaps from a trans mundane world. The writing process would ensue and the ideas for “Catacombs” were born. The band often incorporates their New Zealand heritage into the sound of Like A Storm by using a didgeridoo. Which gives their new single “The Devil Inside” a much darker feel. How often do they make it home these days? The band has been well traveled over the years setting up base in Toronto for a few years before moving to the states. How much of an adjustment has it been coming from New Zealand, to Canada and ending up in the United States? Hear the full conversation that Lunchbox and Promo Brady had with Matt Brooks of Like A Storm on episode 63 of the DOMKcast....more36minPlay
June 22, 2018DOMKcast with Josh Katz of BadflowerSuicide has been the topic of conversation lately due to recent events. The song “Ghost” from Badflower has a pellucid meaning and touches on the journey of a man battling depression. Josh Katz the frontman of Badflower is the special guest on episode 62 of the DOMKcast with Lunchbox and Promo Brady. Josh admitted he has his own battles with depression that have been more prevalent in recent years, possibly coinciding with the success of the band. As he said during the conversation, “Success is a weird animal and can do things to your head." You can almost feel the weight of the emotions that the song “Ghost” inflicts on you. It’s a subject that is avoided but the beauty of this song is that it’s going to start the conversation. Title track off the latest album from Badflower which is out now. The guys from Badflower are persistent. Tired of waiting for the green light from Republic Records. The band decided to record their album “Temper” in their garage. They handed over a copy upon completion and the record label released it as is. Josh said “Being in a band is 10% action and 90% waiting around. We just got tired of waiting.” A few things you’ll find interesting about the band. They were discovered by Lance Bass of NYSNC during a residency at The Key Club in L.A. No word yet on a rock version “Bye Bye Bye”. Everybody has a phase after your freed of your parents and live on your own for the first time. The things you do just because you can at that point. Josh had a stripper pole in the living room of his first apartment. He had fun reminiscing of the debauchery that went on during those fun days.
