Before Christians were hunted by Nero and later wiped out under Diocletian, they were ridiculed—painted as dangerous, irrational, and unfit for public life. That same pattern is playing out today. While churches here are mocked, Christians in Nigeria are being hunted, burned out of their villages, and murdered for their faith—much like believers in Rome, punished not for crimes but for refusing to bow. And the pressure doesn’t stop there. In the early Church, false teachers like Valentinus and Marcion didn’t attack Christianity head-on; they redefined it, reshaping Jesus to fit the spirit of the age. Different century, same pattern: public scorn, real persecution, and a counterfeit gospel meant to replace the real one. The question is whether the Church recognizes the parallels and stands firm.
