In Japanese companies, “ojisan” (old men who don't work) are often regarded as “gokutubushi” (a kind of “deadbeat”) and are severely shunned. Especially for salaried workers, who are the top earners, it is very discouraging to have an old fart who does not work, even though he is highly paid. However, I would like to argue that the “non-working uncle” also has a purpose in the company.
