This week we’re talking about an episode of the new season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and refuting the tired old trope that fat women aren’t sexually attractive. We also touch on how we’re trying to move away from the black and white thinking of tossing off everything that is problematic in one way or another. Yes, this show portrays fatphobia. Yes, that is problematic. However, the show also does a wonderful job of tackling issues of racism and feminism.
Then we answer a listener question about fetishes and break down how to work on incorporating aspects of a fetish into your partnered sex life. If fetishes aren’t your thing, you might want to stick around anyway because we talk about a lot of things that can be applied more generally to improving your sexual experiences!
We also talk about the role of “movement” in our own lives and how we’re working to break free of the demands of our smart watches..
Episode highlights:
“Uhhh, because people love the fat kid story. There’s nothing more than what a standard American loves than a fat kid who overcame being fat.”
“Recognize that your erection isn’t the number one most important thing to having a sexual and enjoyable sexual experience for you partner.”
“Whatever we do, we need to stop putting so much pressure on our partners to have their bodies behave exactly as we’re expecting.”
“I’m just curious, how was your sex life before this “failed attempt”?”
“We have to find a way to get you more into your body during the experience.”
“What makes you actually feel present in your body?”
“Most people don’t jump to penetrative sex immediately.”
“The sex that you have in the beginning of your relationship is almost always different.”
“Stop panicking about your erection.”
“Sometimes you will have a partner who isn’t as cool as your wife.”
“Don’t have an assumed boundary!”
“Whatever the boundaries are, I don’t care, just make sure they’re clear!”
