Kendy Howard was found dead in her bathtub by her husband, Dan, a former Idaho State Police Trooper who told detectives his wife shot herself. 

He called 9-1-1 to report the "suicide" and when officers responded they had no reason to doubt how she died until they started noticing inconsistencies. 

Like why was Kendy's gun in the bathtub? Why wasn't there more blood if she died in the tub? And why was Kendy's bag packed like she was ready to leave, but she killed herself instead? 

Her friends and family said she was the happiest she had been in years because she was ready to leave Dan, who she said had a quick temper and was abusive. 

Kendy was planning to start a new life with a new house, a new romance, and more stability, but police say Dan had other plans and thought he could outwit investigators by staging the scene of her death.

But Dan Howard wasn't as smart as he thought he was.
