The boys reconvene and discuss some of the games from the qualifying round of the NHL playoffs, including the Hurricanes sweeping the Rangers. Dan gets on his soapbox and rants about how bottom 6 lines need to be constructed properly, Andy brings up a great argument about passing the torch with the news that the Rangers may rid Henrik Lundqvist's contract, and they give their thoughts on how the Rangers let down Henrik Lundqvist. The guys finish off the episode talking about the shock that the Canadiens are pulling on the Penguins as the final seed in the qualifying round and a pretty funny life lesson from Andy.
The boys get back together and discuss the opening exhibition games that we saw across the metro. They discuss the Flyers/Penguins, Caps/Canes, and Rangers/Islanders, then dive into goalie talk and how metro goalies can compete between the Caps, Pens, etc., and the versatility of each teams' top 6. They pivot into discussing Columbus' chances against the Leafs, playing video games with funny tweets from the bubble, and Ian takes some heat for his inabilities to down a shot properly. Afterward, Ian drops the news of the UVM coaching staff changes, including the hire of Mike Babcock, and how the players will respond to having him on their staff. Finally, Andy finishes off the episode in a typical fashion with a riveting, but very important, life lesson.
The boys begin this episode talking about the NHL Awards finalists announced by the league and work their way through each nominee, why they should/should not win, and who got snubbed. Finally, Andy throws a life lesson out that may throw another podcaster under the bus...
The guys link back up to discuss the NHL CBA and how a flat cap affects big and small market teams, teams with a cap crunch and offer sheet logic. They then segway into amnesty buyouts, the CBA's escrow numbers, and team/game growth with the hockey economy. They also bring up jersey prices and ways to support your teams, the return of free agency frenzy along with some big-name FA's this offseason, discuss the proposed dates for the 2020-2021 NHL season, and proposals to get "back to normal" after the next season commences late. Finally, we end off our episode with an update from Dan after his Bachelor party trip followed by an important, yet very insightful weekly life lesson from Andy.
The boys start off by weighing in on Dan's upcoming trip to Mohegan Sun, follow up with the Devils hiring Lindy Ruff, and discuss Alain Vigneault's comparisons to Ruff. The guys then pivot into comparing the Rangers rebuild and Devils rebuild, NJD's cap trouble, and make sure they rip on Gianni any chance they can get. They finish off the show talking about trading picks for established young players, touch upon the Caps and Ovechkin, and end off with an important life lesson from Andy.
The boys get passionate and fiery in this episode as they discuss the results of the NHL draft lottery, debate about tanking teams in the NHL, and how playing the lottery odds will only hurt your chances in the lottery. Matt and Dan discuss how the draft lottery happened exactly as it was supposed to (cue the statistical points in this one), Andy chimes in on what teams benefit most from this playoff system, and which players are eligible to play in the postseason. Finally, Andy's life lesson will be sure to give you a nice chuckle.
The guys start off the podcast with their normal shenanigans and shift into Hall of Fame talk, Playoff talks and how COVID spikes in Florida can affect the NHL's plan, as well as a players decision to potentially opt out of the postseason. The boys also discuss some of the best teams assembled in NHL history and how they tie into NHL dynasties. Finally, Andy's life lesson will be sure to make you question some of his (friends..?) life choices.
In this episode, the boys discuss the hazing news that came out of the Canadian Hockey League, the debacle in Buffalo firing their IT person only to rehire them the next day, the Lias Andersson situation. They also discuss points about the NHL draft, what it means to have multiple first-round picks, and Dan drops a HOT take about recent dominant college hockey teams. No DMWTM podcast is complete without some derailed conversations, so the guys also talk about U.S. infrastructure and geography (Dan forgets odds and even numbers) and what we would like to see in a CHL-NCAA series. Finally, Andy comes up with a great life lesson to have good bar etiquette during the outdoor seating season.
We touch upon the state of the country/world right now and everything that has been going on. After our discussion, Dan touches upon his drinking challenge status, the guys then discuss the Western Conference Playoff matchups, and finish up with some college hockey talk. Andy also delivers a life lesson that's sure to kickstart your summer.
In this episode of Don't Mess with the Metro, the gang gets together to discuss the cancellation of Alabama-Huntsville's D1 College Hockey program due to financial distress, seven of the ten WCHA teams leaving the conference, and the potential domino effect this will have on other teams including the expansion of LIU and Illinois' college teams. They also discuss the NHL's plan to return to play as well as the proposed 24-team playoff scenario. Per the usual, Dan gives his sober challenge update (he's almost there) and Andy's life lesson will be something to think about next time you're at a drive through.
