This week I had to overcome quite a few obstacles and in doing so, it got me wondering where we came up with the phrase, “life’s curveballs.” I dove into this topic and found an amazing, now well-known article by three professors in the American Journal of Physics called, “How to Hit Home Runs: Optimum baseball bat swing parameters for maximum range trajectories.” In the article, they talk about what exactly a curveball pitch is in baseball, why they’re so hard to hit and why coaches were telling players to skip the curve balls, even if they ended up being strikes. Coaches believed up to that point that it was the fastball, the more predictable pitches that got the most homeruns…the study proved them wrong. It was the curveballs that yielded the most return when contacted effectively. We dive into this life lesson and how to not only play the curveballs, but anticipate them, prepare to hit them and aim for hitting in those extra runs!
