February is Black History Month, and Door Key is celebrating that by talking about George Washington Carver.
Carver was one of the most prominent black scientists of the early 20th century. He was a professor at Tuskegee Institute, where he developed techniques to improve soil that had been depleted by repeated plantings of cotton. He also wrote a bulletin that contained 105 recipes using peanuts, and spent years developing and promoting many products made from peanuts. Carver was also a leader in promoting environmentalism, and received numerous honors for his work.

Door Key is celebrating Black History Month by talking about the one and only Josephine Baker!
Josephine Baker was an American-born French dancer, singer, and actress. She was a flapper synonymous with that era, as well as the first black woman to star in a major motion picture. But she was so much more than that - she was a member of the French Resistance during World War II, and then went on to fought for Civil Rights in America during the 50s and 60s. Josephine Baker was an incredible person with an incredible story!

This episode is about Napoleon.
I'm joined by military historian Michael Stroud, and we discuss the movie that's out right now about Napoleon, as well as the real historical figure.
During our conversation, Michael recommends two books about Napoleon. Those two books are Napoleon by Andrew Roberts and The Campaigns of Napoleon by David G. Chandler.

This episode discusses the history of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that is celebrated in America, and is on the fourth Thursday of every November. (There's also Canadian Thanksgiving, as well as similar celebrations in other places of the world, but this episode specifically focuses on American Thanksgiving.)
This is episode #48, which means episode #50 is coming up. I'm going to be celebrating this milestone by answering listener questions. If you have a question for me, please send it to [email protected], and I'll read it and answer it in the special episode.

This episode discusses Mary I of England. Mary I is known to history as Bloody Mary, but her real name was Mary Tudor. She was King Henry VIII’s oldest child and the daughter of Catherine of Aragon. She would eventually become Queen of England, but it was a long, tough road for her to get there. And unfortunately, things didn’t get much easier for her once she did become Queen ...
This episode talks about several people that there are previous episodes of Door Key about. This wasn't on purpose, it just kind of worked out that way. But here are links to those episodes:

This episode puts the spooky into Spooktaculer by discussing reported hauntings at Mount Vernon, which was George Washington's home. I don’t think there’s anything much better than a good ghost story, especially around Halloween!
This is the fourth and final episode that will be released this October during the Spooktaculer, where Door Key is getting into spooky historical topics to celebrate Halloween!

This episode is about Juana of Castille, who was Queen of Castile. Known to history as Juana la Loca (which translates to Juana the Crazy, or Juana the Mad), Juana had a very tumultuous, tragic life that certainly qualifies for an episode in the Spooktaculer.
This is the third of four episodes that will be released this October during the Spooktaculer, where Door Key is getting into spooky historical topics to celebrate Halloween!
