Publisher's Summary:
Fans of Junie B. Jones and Ivy and Bean will love this new story about the spunky little rascal with big ideas.
The star of Dory Fantasmagory is heading to school. Her older siblings, Luke and Violet, warn her to leave her imaginary friend, Mary, at home - or, better yet, leave her whole imagination at home! Dory is determined to behave like a "regular old girl who never gets in trouble", but on her very first day she meets a new friend, a girl whose imagination and style are just about as wild as her own. Now she just has to convince her siblings that she's not making it all up!

Laugh out loud funny.
Dory remains quite the entertaining character with her imagination and spirit shining through her antics. This time Dory heads back to school anxious about finding a true friend (a real friend according to her siblings). The combination of illustrations with text makes for a fast read and appealing story. Dory's efforts to behave at school while maintaining her unique characteristics makes for a very entertaining read. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Dory's attempts to befriend a classmate who seems to have a similarly strong imaginary life despite her brother and sister's skepticism. Dory's imagining's add plenty of humor with her friend Mary wanting to go to school with her despite the 'trouble' she got into the previous year, Mr. Nuggy, Dory's fairy godmother, who promises to turn the school into a pancake before inadvertently turning himself into a chicken, and Mrs. Gobble Gracker, the ugly witch who is always a threat. The way Dory's and Rosabelle's individual stories come together creates the backbone of the book making for a fun, light read. The only thing that might concern some readers/parents is the fact that at one point Dory takes off her shirt and puts it on her head to do battle. But otherwise a laugh out loud crazy read.
Relief from Formulaic Kids Books about Magic Fairies/Puppies/Mermaids
This is a hilarious and well-written story that will appeal to girls of many ages. My 6-year old has asked me to read this book to her at least 3 times, and we loving laughing together as we do. We give it as a gift for all of her classmates' birthdays, and have created a big Dory fan group in her class. This book is such a welcome relief from the formulaic series about magic fairies/cats/ponies! Great characters, humor, and just enough adorable drawings...my daughter's favorite book, hands down. The sequel, Dory and the True Friend, is also outstanding.
Fun and easy to read, love Dory!
My daughter is 6 and she likes her books with colorful illustrations... but this book is so fun and easy to read, she doesn't need color! The illustrations in every page is great! This book is very funny and age appropriate. LOVE Dory Fantasmagory books!
Cute!
Adorable book. Our rising third grader loved it. While part of her required summer reading she admitted it was a book she would have picked on her own. At 8 years old she was able to read the book in about a day.
Awesome!
My daughter absolutely loved this book. We read it at bed time every night for several nights and finished it! Can't wait to get more of the series!
