Jenny has moved over 20 times in her adult life. And every single time, she has arrived somewhere with a closed heart and had to find her way back to herself.
In this episode of Dots and Dreams, Jenny shares the recipe she didn't know she was building, the four things that have helped her fall in love with every new place before that place ever loved her back. She opens with a French expression she has never been able to translate well into English: le point de repère. The familiar things. The anchors that make a place feel like yours before it actually is.
She traces two of her hardest moves: New York at 26, arriving bitter after a denied Paris work visa, alone in a windowless office near Penn Station; and San Francisco at 30, returning to the city she grew up in after a breakup, still unable to open her heart to it. And she closes with where she is right now — working towards moving again by 2027, this time with a husband and two small kids, a business she is building, and a family depending on her to hold the vision.
If you have ever stood in a new place wondering how long it is going to take to feel like home, this one is for you.
