  • Episode 44: Samsung Unpacked and Be My Eyes specialized help feature
Double Tap Canada starts this week with a shock announcement from Steven Scott. Well, at least he thinks it's shocking, Shaun & Tim aren't to sure. But for the last 2 weeks he's ditched his 2 iPhones in favour of an Android phone. He loves the Moto G5's dual sim feature which allows him to use one phone for both work and personal use and so far he hasn't found anything the iPhone can do that Android can't. Can Shaun & Tim find any flaws in his arguments or will Steven switch to Android for good?
Next Shaun takes a look at just what was announced at the recent Samsung Unpacked event. Can the details of a new smartspeaker, latest Galaxy Note 9 phone or Galaxy smartwatch interest Steven enough to stop him searching for deserts? Probably not.
Finally, we finish the show with news that Be My Eyes has announced that Microsoft, as part of the Be My Eyes specialized help feature, will offer customer support 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Allowing blind and visually impaired users to get help with any technical problems any time day or night. Also news that Apple Maps now has map data for 18 shopping malls across Canada allowing for indoor navigation but just how will this technology work?

  • Episode 43: Star Trek gadgets, Android Pie and Microsoft delays retiring Skype Classic
Jay Taylor joins Steven, Shaun & Tim in this weeks Double Tap Canada and brings with him some Star Trek gossip and bluetooth enabled Spock ears. Yes, that's even abit too nerdy for us! We quickly move on to yet another of Stevens gadgets, this time it's the DJI Osmo 2. This gizmo will hold your phone rock steady and even track objects allowing you to record great videos. But what is Steven planning to do with it?
With the recent release of Android Pie, Steven calls for a revolution, Tim cries copycat and Shaun gets thrown under the bus but is there anything to get excited about?
Next we discuss Skype and Microsofts recent decision to delay the retirement of Skype Classic. Users have made it clear that they are not fans of the new interface and functionality in Skype 8 but how could Microsoft get it so wrong? And more importantly, how bad must it be when even mild mannered Tim Schwartz needs to be censored?

  • Episode 42: FlickType Developers, Aira and Way Around
Steven, Shaun & Tim are back with another hour of tech news and discussion, with a small mix of funny accents, nuclear attacks and the joy of living under the stairs thrown in for fun. It can only be Double Tap Canada.
The developers of FlickType answer some of the questions raised in last weeks show after listeners voiced their opinions on FlickTypes monthly subscription payment model, but will it change peoples minds?
In tech news, Aira, the service that uses smart glasses with a camera to connect you to a trained agent who can help you with a multitude of tasks, has announced that their service will soon be available 24 hours a day. Great news for any VI night owls, but this leads to a wider discussion about pricing of the service.
Also, we discuss the recent deals VFO has made which mean that Columbia, Spain & Hungry will provide any of their blind citizens a copy of Jaws, Magic or Zoomtext for free. Is this something we should be hoping for too or is it time Freedom Scientific lowered it's prices?
Finally, can an app called Way Around provide a useful solution for labelling and identifying objects or will it's dependance on buying NFC tags be it's downfall?

  • Episode 41: Tim's Bits, Skype 8 and Be My Eyes
Steven, Shaun & Tim return again this week with another hour devoted to tech. In this episode of Double Tap Canada we kick off with some feedback on FlickTypes monthly subscription model. The developers of this great accessible iOS keyboard asked for your opinions but will they like what they hear?
Also, Tims bits is back with a really useful piece on 10 things to do with the Mac command key.
Next it's on to the news and just how accessible and usable will Skype 8 be compared to the soon to disappear desktop classic version? Also, yet another security issue has been found, this time in using Bluetooth but don't worry, Shaun has some interesting advice on how to deal with it.
Rumours about the upcomine Apple Watch Series 4 point to it having a bigger screen but does it really make any difference to us as visually impaired people? Sausage fingered Steven says yes. Talking of sausages could the answer to the global obesity problem be found in a new app which only gives access to your device once you've done enough exercise?
We wrap up the episode with a demo of the fantastic Be My Eyes app which allows you to easily connect to a sighted volunteer and using your smartphones camera, get help on identifying objects etc. A must have app for Apple or Android phones and it's completely free!

  • Episode 40: Fosil Q Machine, and smartphone addiction
Steven Scott returns to Double Tap Canada this week and so the show kicks off with what tech he bought while on holiday. The Fosil q Machine is a hybrid screenless smartwatch but is it the best of both worlds or just a gimmick?
The big debate this week revolves around smartphone addiction. Steven puts forward the arguement that as visually impaired people we are less likely to be glued to the smartphone as a sighted person due to the lack of visual stimuli designed to keep people using there phones. Shaun argues that smartphone addiction is actually not even a thing and Tim tries to keep the peace. How many hours do you spend on your phone a day and do you feel like it's a problem?

  • Episode 39: FlickType, Windows Shortcuts and Tech News
Tim Schwartz takes the big chair in this weeks Double Tap Canada as Steven Scott is sent for behaviour modification or possibly on a cruise, we're not sure which.
Tim and Shaun kick off the show with a discussion on FlickType, the iOS app that allows the visually impaired to type on a touchscreen device easily and as fast as someone sighted. With the latest release you can now use the keyboard in any app but the developers have chosen a subscription model as the way to pay for the app, but is this something people are happy to sign up to?
Next, the feature with the name everyone hates, Tims Bits make a return. This week Tim will run through 10 shortcuts using the Windows key. Will you know them all already or will there be a hidden gem in there.
The show finishes with a discussion of the latest tech news. The newly announced Surface Go from Microsoft, a Windows 10 (ish) tablet which shouldn't break the bank. Apples new USB restriction feature to stop special hardware being able to bypass your devices passcode, great for security but what about law enforcement investigations? Also more security talk with Google being accused of allowing apps to access your personal data and Samsung phones sending your photos out without you knowing.

  • Episode 37: Chrome Books part 2, Chrome Vox, and Self Driving Wheelchairs
It's time for another episode of Double Tap Canada which can only mean one thing. Yet another debate about Chrome Books. This time it's personal...
After taking time to test out the latest version of the Chrome Vox screen reader is it time for Steven to eat humble pie? And will this finally be an end to the Chrome Book saga?
Also, we discuss this weeks tech news. Should you dive into the recently released iOS 12 public beta program and with rumours of new headphones from Apple, what would we like to see improved?
We end the show with a talk about self driving wheelchairs and a listener email asking is it still worth buying the iPhone SE today?

  • Episode 35: Chrome Book, SmartOmi and Tech News
"Brace yourselves for a tense episode of Double Tap Canada this week, which starts with a reprimand for one of the team and progresses into J Taylor trying to convince a cynical Steven about the benefits of his new Chromebook.
Tim tells us about his new SmartOmi Completely Wireless earpods, which not only compete nicely with Apple Airpods at a much lower price, but also manage to get the rarely given #WifeApproved recommendation.
Steven finds a new, but forgotten, bit of tech in his overflowing tech cupboard. But is the TP-Link Smartplug just an excuse for being lazy? Probably.
We finish the show with a look at this weeks tech news, with the announcement of the Sonos Beam, a sound bar for your tv which will come with not only Amazon Alexa, but also the Google Assistant and Airplay2 support. Also promising some control of your TV using your voice, how does this fit in with the, also newly announced, Amazon TV Cube
    "
