Dr Charles McCaldin was born in Kenya and educated in England. After qualifying as a GP he joined his father’s practice in Kenya until the early 1970’s. From there he travelled to England, the Gulf and back to Australia. He and his family then moved to Cairns, where he's lived since 1989. Charles loves all things to do with aviation and his special interests include allergy related illnesses. During the 1980's Australians took the TV show A Country Practice to their hearts. Wandin Valley had it's local cop in the shape of Sgt. Frank Gilroy played by Brian Wenzel. Well in Port Douglas we have our own version of that fair dinkum country policeman in Sgt. Damian Meadows and like his TV counterpart he has a great love for his patch and the people who live in it. A man who works closely with the community and provides policing at a grass roots level. His journey to get to Port as it's 'Top Cop' is a very interesting one. The Port Douglas Crocs AFL Team this year have gone Minor Premiers and have their eyes firmly focused on the flag. Captain Ben McPhee has been part of this very successful year and despite only arriving in the far north in 2022 he's risen quickly through the clubs ranks to become a true leader. Gary McIlroy (Gazza) kicks off the day at Douglas FM with his very entertaining Breakfast Show five days a week. Gary moved to Port Douglas in 2018 after having presented an afternoon radio show across NQ from Innisfail. His radio career started in 1985 at the age of 18 and saw him working in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. Gary was once a long distance runner and has many strings to his bow.  Now he, his wife and parents call the Douglas Shire home.
