Strategy and intention is how we prepare, it's how we buffer. It’s how we build strategy and resilience into our businesses. If we do not prioritize our own resilience our businesses will suffer for it.

Becky Chavez, a first-generation Latinx mother, is married and has three bicultural children, residing in Whittier, CA, with early childhood roots in Nayarit, Tepic, Mexico. Proudly identifying as Mexican American, Becky dedicates herself to her community, offering workshops, support groups, and personalized birth and postpartum care to families in-person. 

Founding Birth to Latch studio with a deliberate focus on creating a nurturing space for families, she aims to address postpartum depression and ease the transition into parenthood through birth support and perinatal education. Birth to Latch operates as a collaborative practice, uniting doulas, lactation professionals, and other healers committed to holistic self-care. With five years of experience in home visiting with Los Angeles County, Becky served at-risk families during the perinatal period, providing essential skills such as childbirth preparation, infant massage, non-violent parenting methods, and resource connection.

 Inspired by her own struggles through postpartum depression, Becky's passion for aiding others blossomed, propelling her vision for the past eight years since her doula training in 2016 and the inception of her inaugural postpartum support group. Continuously pursuing educational growth, Becky remains dedicated to self-reflection, learning, and personal evolution to best serve the families she encounters. When Doulas consider adding additional services to their businesses it is usually along the lines of other services for their same clients. Jaely Turner is our guest today and she is breaking down her work with Birth Story Medicine and why it’s a helpful part of her doula/birthwork business! 

Meet Jaely Turner:

I'm Mama to my sweet boys George (4 years) and Allen (2 years), and Wife to my wonderful and supportive husband, Chris. I'm also a Musician, Yoga Instructor, Doula, Birth Mentor, Birth Story Listener, and the Owner of Our Village Circle.

When I became pregnant with my first son, I began devouring all the information I could find about birth - the physiology, the evidence, the rights that birthing people are entitled to, and coping practices. I listened to birth stories, spoke with doulas, and made my own sense of the evidence and what I hoped for out of my prenatal care and birth experience.

For me, pregnancy was a process of stepping into my own power, silencing the unsolicited outside voices, and learning to tune into and trust my inner voice, advocating for myself to the ends of the earth.
