When God is calling us to do something, we have to step out and begin the work. After Nehemiah went through all the work to gain approval from the king to rebuild the wall, he set out to Jerusalem and began his mission with a preliminary inspection of the walls. Before Nehemiah talked to the king about his plan to rebuild, he spent time planning and making sure that every detail was accounted for, so that he knew exactly what he needed and could answer any question the king had for him. He did his part, and believed that God would do the rest.

Just like Nehemiah’s character, commitment, and lifestyle allowed God to use him to obtain the king’s permission and blessing to rebuild, our character, commitment, and lifestyle have a great impact on what God can do through us.

In the book of Nehemiah, he prays 12 times. This week’s sermon talked about this first prayer, where he asked for forgiveness for the sins of those who caused the situation, and for favor as he stepped out in faith to do what God called him to do.

Do we really care about what others are going through? This week, we began looking at the book of Nehemiah and talked about how Nehemiah cared about those who were back in the province, and even fasted and prayed for them for days.

Peter denied Jesus three times, but Jesus still forgave him and gave him another chance. Our past doesn’t matter to God. He is always willing to give us another chance.
