Down by the River: Conversations from life on the road

The last 9 days have been a whirl wind of adventure here in Alaska. My parents joined me in Alaska just before the end of May for a two week vacation here in the 49th state and last wild frontier.

In the past week we have enjoyed so many adventures and incredible sights that I couldn’t help but ask them to come back onto the podcast this week and share all about their experience of being vanlifers in Alaska.

We have had a blast, and I am so excited to share with you their favorite moments, unexpected experiences, animal sightings and thoughts on camping off-grid in the Alaskan wilderness.

While I have been doing both part time and full time vanlife people always ask me what my parents think about what I am doing and if they worry all the time. So I thought why not bring them both on the pod and have them share their perspective of what being the parent of a vanlife girl is really like for them.

This week hear from Kathryn about her childhood growing up in England with a stutter and how her love of dance combined with her speech services inspired a career transition. Kathryn went back to school to study speech-language pathology to help students find their voices and teach them how to advocate for themselves and their needs.

Diane's life has taken many turns while raising her family in California and building her career as an empty nester. Diane moved to Colorado to go back to school as a non-traditional student and found a path forward leaning into her passion for helping those less fortunate. Her work has now taken her into working with Veterans who have struggled to find their place since their time in the service.
