How has your racial appearance affect your everyday life? and if it does how have things changed in your favor? You see we as people of color (POC) often struggle with being accepted for who we are and are often given odd looks when stepping out in public. I remember being a youngster, walking into markets, stores, businesses and always having eyes on me and my family or friends. I remember being told by white people to not steal while I was shopping alone, I was told they could not sell to me because they think I couldn't afford the gallon of milk my mom would send me to buy. I was always looked as the "bad guy", to this day I will step into public places and those looks hit a lot too familiar lol. I let them stare all they want, I put myself out there, full of pride because I know that when someone tells me something. I know far too well how to respond. And yes its scary because you don't know what others are capable of. But I won't let their privilege or authority stop me from achieving what I want. If you see me and you feel threatened, that sounds more like a personal problem. I come from hard working immigrant parents, shit I'm undocumented myself, Qvo! thanks for running into this short episode, lets spark up some conversations??
