St. Vincent is the story of a boy (Jaeden Lieberher) moving to a new house next door to a disgruntled, bitter, alcoholic, gambling addict, broke, veteran named Vincent (Bill Murray). The only thing less likely than the pairing of these two is the bond that they form.
This one is charming, fun and most importantly, worth your time!

    Where to Watch: Amazon Prime
    Stars:
Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler
    Writer/Director:
    Matt Ross
Captain Fantastic sounds like the newest addition to the long list of superhero movies, and it the cover art looks like a Wes Anderson film. It is neither of those things. Join Chet and Rodney as they discuss this 2016 film that flew under the radar despite some award nominations. Also, the guys talk through “Child Actors” and how impressive that can be!
This film is a story of a well-meaning father (Viggo Mortenson) who has extreme ideas of how his children should be raised. He has removed them from other people altogether and is educating them himself in the wilderness. As the kids are put through challenges both physical and mental, one can’t help but be impressed until circumstances demand that they all must go back into society where the children and their father are confronted by some harsh realities.
This one makes you think! We would love to hear what those thoughts are! Please feel free to chime: www.downthehallpodcast.com

  • Short Term 12
    (2013) - Drama - 96 minutes - R
    Where to Watch: Netflix
Cast: Brie Larson, John Gallagher Jr., Rami Malek
    Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
It's rare for a movie this “short” (see what we did there?) to be able to take you on such a remarkable introspective journey. This roller coaster of emotions depicts a short term housing group where kids are sent if they are a danger to themselves or others.
We see the story from multiple angles including through the eyes of kids who have been there for years, a girl who arrives for the first time, as well as the human side of the workers, some tenured and some brand new to the job.
