  • S3 Episode 20: Daily Bread

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 20, we look at the 4th petition of the Lord's Prayer - Give us today our daily bread. We have a quick look at the theme of God's provision (especially through the use of bread) in Scripture. We discuss the difference between God's provision of wants vs needs. We also chat about the various types of needs we may have and might need to ask for and see how God provides these things largely through the everyday means of common grace and the church.

  • S3 Episode 19: Your Will Be Done

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 19, we look at the 3rd petition of the Lord's Prayer - Your will be done. At first glance, this seems very similar to the last petition, so we discuss the difference between this and Your kingdom come. We dive deep into the concept of "God's will" - what is it exactly, and if God's sovereign will will be done anyway, why pray for it? We also talk about God's providence and accepting everything that comes from his hand. Finally, we chat about what it means for His will to be done on earth as in heaven.

  • S3 Episode 18: Your Kingdom Come

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 18, we examine the 2nd petition of the Lord's Prayer - "your Kingdom come".
We look at the motif of "Kingdom" through Scripture discussing what exactly God's Kingdom is. We tackle the theological question of whether or not God's Kingdom has come, is coming, or will come. We also discuss what it looks like for this prayer to be answered today and how it impacts on the mission and hope of the church.

  • S3 Episode 17: Hallowed Be Your Name

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 17, we talk a bit about the structure of the Lord's prayer before diving into the first petition. We talk about what the word "Hallowed" means, especially given it's not commonly used today. We get lost down a rabbit hole of name theology, and then talk about how this line in the prayer shapes our prayer - not just in content, but in our approach to prayer itself.

  • S3 Episode 16: Our Father in Heaven

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 16, we discuss a bit of the context for the Lord's Prayer before getting stuck straight into the opening address - Our Father in Heaven. We talk about what it means for God to be a Father (and take a short detour into ideas of God and gendered illustrations), and also what it means for him to be "in Heaven". We see how this opening line of Jesus' prayer teaches us how we should approach our Father, and how it shapes how we pray.

  • S3 Episode 15: Calling on the Name of the Lord

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 15, we start our mini-series on the Lord's Prayer. We kick off by asking why we find it so hard to pray. We then talk about the exact nature of prayer - what is it, how we should pray, and how the Lord's Prayer helps us to pray. We also discuss some difficult theological questions surrounding prayer - like why we should pray if God already knows everything, and what it means to pray without ceasing.

  • S3 Bonus Episode 3: Praying the Scriptures (with Nancy Guthrie)

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In this special bonus episode, we're joined by friend of the show, Nancy Guthrie, to talk about prayer. We speak with her how we can use Scripture to inform our prayers, and her experiences in learning to do this for herself, her kids and others. We talk about how we can use all parts of Scripture (even genres like narrative) to help guide our prayers, and how doing so can help us to pray along with God's heart and desires. We also chat about the books that she's written about prayer, why she decided to write them, and the influence they've had on her own prayer life.

This episodes serves as an introduction to the second part of Season 3 where we'll be doing a deep dive into the Lord's Prayer.

  • S3 Episode 13: Finding Contentment and Giving Thanks (10th Commandment)

Welcome to Season 3 of Down Under Theology, a podcast equipping and encouraging Australian Christians to get down and under the theology impacting the life and mission of the church.

In Episode 13, we chat about the 10th and final commandment - do not covet. Coveting is not a usual word in our vocabulary so we unpack what it means. We talk about how it reveals God's sovereignty and goodness. We explore how this commandment ties in with the other 9 and points to the heart behind our obedience. We then unpack how these ideas should drive us to living lives of contentment and thankfulness, even when things don't seem to be going so well.
