    Wideacre Trilogy
I really enjoyed the entire trilogy. The characters were well developed and I was drawn into the plot immediately. I will however say that there was entirely too much redundancy in the story. I found myself impatient listening to it, which was at times annoying. All in all though it was a wonderful and memorable escape to listen to. the narrator was very good!
    Better than book 1 & 2
I honestly didnt like book 1 & 2 but by this time I felt I had to finish the series. Book 3 is much better and I can say I did like it. Im glad to say it had a good ending. Still, if I had it to do again Id skip the whole series.
    Didn't love it!
I read all three books and all of the author's historical fiction novels. These were a disappointment! I didn't like the incest plot or how the book ended. I couldn't image these women being so stubborn or stupid in The Favoured Child or Meridon. The last two were too predictable. I normally can't wait to have a moment to listen to my book, but not with these three.
    The best of the 3
This was most enjoyable. The narrator was fantastic. I really enjoyed the characters in this book.
    Grand Finale
A wonderful ending to an amazing Trilogy! I've never laughed so loud or cried so hard listening to an audible. Charlie Sanderson was simply incredible in her many voices. Simply amazing!

    Publisher's Summary:
In the tradition of All the Light We Cannot See and The Nightingale comes an incandescent debut novel about a young Dutch man who comes of age during the perilousness of World War II.
Beginning in the summer of 1939, 14-year-old Jacob Koopman and his older brother, Edwin, enjoy lives of prosperity and quiet contentment. Many of the residents in their small Dutch town have some connection to the Koopman lightbulb factory, and the locals hold the family in high esteem.
On days when they aren't playing with friends, Jacob and Edwin help their uncle Martin on his fishing boat in the North Sea, where German ships have become a common sight. But conflict still seems unthinkable, even as the boys' father naively sends his sons to a Hitler Youth Camp in an effort to secure German business for the factory.
When war breaks out, Jacob's world is thrown into chaos. The Boat Runner follows Jacob over the course of four years, through the forests of France, on the stormy beaches of England, and deep within the secret missions of the German navy, where he is confronted with the moral dilemma that will change his life - and his life's mission - forever.
Epic in scope and featuring a thrilling narrative with precise, elegant language, The Boat Runner tells the little-known story of the young Dutch boys who were thrown into the Nazi campaign as well as the brave boatmen who risked everything to give Jewish refugees safe passage to land abroad. Through one boy's harrowing tale of personal redemption, here is a novel about the power of people's stories and voices to shine light through our darkest days, until only love prevails.

Amazing story capturing life during WW II era
Having immigrated from Poland, I have heard many stories from my family and friends who lived thru similar experiences as described in the book. I simply could not put it down. The story is not only exciting to hear but also very well written, keeping interest of the reader while describing events as if we were there. Great read !!!
    Nice Story! Good narration!

    Title: Miss Kopp's Midnight Confessions
    Author: Amy Stewart

Length: 10 hrs and 4 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-05-17
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 67 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
The best-selling author of Girl Waits with Gun and Lady Cop Makes Trouble continues her extraordinary journey into the real lives of the forgotten but fabulous Kopp sisters.
Deputy sheriff Constance Kopp is outraged to see young women brought into the Hackensack jail over dubious charges of waywardness, incorrigibility, and moral depravity. The strong-willed, patriotic Edna Heustis, who left home to work in a munitions factory, certainly doesn't belong behind bars. And 16-year-old runaway Minnie Davis, with few prospects and fewer friends, shouldn't be publicly shamed and packed off to a state-run reformatory. But such were the laws - and morals - of 1916.
Constance uses her authority as deputy sheriff, and occasionally exceeds it, to investigate and defend these women when no one else will. But it's her sister Fleurette who puts Constance's beliefs to the test and forces her to reckon with her own ideas of how a young woman should and shouldn't behave.
Against the backdrop of World War I, and drawn once again from the true story of the Kopp sisters, Miss Kopp's Midnight Confessions is a spirited story that will delight fans of historical fiction and lighthearted detective fiction alike.

An Entirely Different Kind of Woman
This is the third book in Stewart's series about the real life Kopp sisters set in 1916 New Jersey. The first half of this book really focuses on the limited and controlled lives lived by women in pre-WWI America. At times this felt overly dark and discouraging. Historically Stewart offers an exacting and detailed view of the struggle women had, and how much Constance Kopp was breaking the mold with her job as deputy sheriff. To be honest, for me, this all felt drab and humorless. But, I stuck with it and I'm glad I did.
Do not worry. Once Stewart sets this dour scene she returns in full force to the quirky humor, wry antics and almost Keystone Cops dashing around from the previous books. The interplay between Norma and Constance is sharp witted and funny. The stories of Vaudeville on the road, life on the farm and work at the jail are all perfectly developed and contrasted.
I love how this series continues to remain absolutely grounded in the history and headlines of the time. The dialogue and characters were excellent. Moore's narration was good. Recommended if you love historic fiction strongly based in reality. A vibrant look at life long gone.
    3rd Person??
i devour all three books in less than a week and a half and I loved each and every single one. i saw Amy Stewart in person during her tour for the third book (here is where I admit that I hadn't read any of them so the Q&A was lost on me) and I'm fairly certain I remember her talking about the POV change, but it was still jarring especially after reading the first two back to back like I did. My only complaint is that I wish the first two were in 3rd person too, but I understand why they weren't. Eagerly awaiting the next one!
    Loved
I do enjoy the exploits of the Kopp sisters in this series. If you havent tried them I highly recommend. A very nice narration by the reader in the audiobook.

When young Josiah Penn Stockbridge accepts the position as aide-de-camp to George Washington at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, he thinks only of the glory and romance of battle. He is unprepared for the reality of America's bloody fight for independence. The Continental Army is starving, underpaid, and dangerously close to mutiny, and Washington fights not just to defeat the British but to maintain order and morale among his own men.
As anonymous letters by officers calling for revolt circulate through camp in Newburgh, New York, Washington must make a choice: preserve the young republic by keeping civilian control of the military, or reshape the new government by standing in solidarity with his troops and assuming greater power for himself.
During one fateful week in American history, Josiah will watch a conflicted general become a legend and will discover for himself that the greatest struggles of war are those within the hearts and minds of fallible men.

    Story over chapter 12
The story was based on a very narrow piece of history. The book is good for history buffs. The last 13 chapters were basically the "credits". The book was a bit of a dissapointment but the narration good.
WOW!!! Well read and well researched!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have a greater respect for George Washington for his humanity and his role in the American Revolution! May we continue to be vigilante to not only praise one for what they have done but also what they havent to live a life with honor and integrity!
what a man of great conviction
best explanation of how GW'S character shaped his decisions in all things, from leading the war, or his home, or our country.
a Novelization of the Newburgh Conspiracy
I'm ashamed to admit I'm one of many Americans who have the felonious understand I bff that the end of the shooting war off the American Revolution occurred at Yorktown. Then came the Treaty of Paris with the Constitutional Conventions in the interim. I first learned of the Newburgh Conspiracy in 2008 during a college course on the military history of the U.S. this novel gives not only a fictional-narrative account of the brooding mutiny of Washington's Army, but also a summation of this was Washi gtobs military career since Braddock's crushing defeat in the French and Indian War up to the encampment at Newburgh, NY. Others have commented this reads like a history book than a novel. I agree and that's a good Thing, and considering at yhe time this reviw is published this book only recently was published. Other historical novels in yhe past have not had yhe same read as This, more novelization entertainment. This is not an inyrinsically bad thing to have. I advise all budding novelists and historians to read this novel as an example of the ideal blend of styles.
    Excellent Reading. Excellent story.
    Loved it. Excellent story.

    Horrible Narration, Great Story
This is one of my favorite series. The first several books have a different narrator that was fantastic. She passed away and the person who replaced her is so bad. Almost unlistenable.
I would recommend reading the this book instead of listening.
The narration spoiled it for me
I love this series, but the narrator sounds like a third grade teacher. So slow! Even at 1.25 speed, it was painful. Often, her cadence was punctuated by clunky phrasing, breaking in the middle of a phrase or between a subject and its verb. I got a third of the way through, but I'll get the Kindle version to finish it.
    Love the story but...
I've been looking forward to this book coming out but almost deleted it several times. The narration was choppy and difficult to follow at times. I know there is more to come but I'm not sure I'll continue to listen.

    Enjoyed this Audiobook
Counted with the Stars painted an exquisite picture of the might and faithfulness of the Lord God who created the Earth and heavens. The story of Exodus came to life through the eyes of an Egyptian girl sold into slavery by her father to pay his debts, and her Redemption by her true Father from above. Great story!
    great story horriable narrator
I loved this story it is the only reason I kept listening, the narrator had a good voice but she read the book like she was in an English speaking class. Every word pronounced so precisely that there was almost know emotion to it but only correct and precise speaking. It was really distracting and took a lot away from the characters.
    Couldnt endure it...
The narrator has the most annoying voice. She speaks in a way that I find most annoying in a narrator-she has a whispery voice-as if she is reading a bedtime story-and she pronounces as many syllables as possible in every word. I enjoy Christian fiction and I understand the authors goal of possibly educating readers who might not be familiar with scripture, but I find it tedious to listen to background stories that dont really further the plot. I gave up after a little over an hour-I tried to get used to her voice but I found myself clenching my teeth after a few minutes every time I attempted to listen. I wont be listening to the other books in this series.
    Counted with the Stars
Great book!! Loved the authors ability to make me feel as if I was right there. About to listen to Book 2. :)

"This book needs to join the ranks of the classic survivor stories of WWII such as Diary of Anne Frank and Man's Search for Meaning. It is truly that amazing!" InD'tale Magazine
Spanning thirteen years from 1940 to 1953 and set against the epic panorama of WWII, author Annette Oppenlander's Surviving the Fatherland is a sweeping saga of family, love, and betrayal that illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the children's war.
Surviving the Fatherland tells the true and heart-wrenching stories of Lilly and Günter struggling with the terror-filled reality of life in the Third Reich, each embarking on their own dangerous path toward survival, freedom, and ultimately each other. Based on the author's own family and anchored in historical facts, this story celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the strength of war children.
When her father goes off to war, seven-year-old Lilly is left with an unkind mother who favors her brother and chooses to ignore the lecherous pedophile next door. A few blocks away, twelve-year-old Günter also looses his father to the draft and quickly takes charge of supplementing his family's ever-dwindling rations by any means necessary.
As the war escalates and bombs begin to rain, Lilly and Günter's lives spiral out of control. Every day is a fight for survival. On a quest for firewood, Lilly encounters a dying soldier and steals her father's last suit to help the man escape. Barely sixteen, Günter ignores his draft call and embarks as a fugitive on a harrowing 47-day ordeal--always just one step away from execution.
When at last the war ends, Günter grapples with his brother's severe PTSD and the fact that none of his classmates survived. Welcoming denazification, Lilly takes a desperate step to rid herself once and for all of her disgusting neighbor's grip. When Lilly and Günter meet in 1949, their love affair is like any other. Or so it seems. But old wounds and secrets have a way of rising to the surface once more.

    Breathtaking
Love love love this book! A perspective by German citizens who were caught up in Hitlers reign! Makes you think! Hopefully, it will speak to others who are caught up with a dictator to not stand for evilness! This book explains in great detail how the German people, along with children were terribly affected by this evil dictator! Nothing compared to the Jews, but still a perspective that sheds light on both the struggle and survival of mankind along with the love of strangers! A must read!
Most moving book I ever red
amazing deep love and survival describing the war from the view of the German civilians.
toped off by an amazing narrator.
    highly recommend!

    Gran libro

The First Two Books Were Sooo Good!!
I found this one to be a little lackluster. Thought the ending to be a little eh as well.
    Beautiful story
Having read the other two books in the series I was moved to listen to this one. It was a touching story of a strong honorable young man who grappled with his secret of his mixed race heritage. He was involved with our early government and learned the hard way that not all men are honorable and that most politicians aren't. The voices created by this author were well characterized and I thoroughly enjoyed this story
    I was disappointed
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I loved her first book of this series.....but this book found me falling asleep with its wandering about and i was disappointed with it as it revised history in a profound way!!!!
Would you ever listen to anything by Jodi Daynard again?
    not sure
What about Marcus Stewarts performance did you like?
I thought it was beautifully preformed
Could you see A More Perfect Union being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.......not on its faulty history revisions
    Finale not so grand...
I really enjoyed the series, it this last one was super slow. I kept hoping it was building, but not so much. I listened to the end to hear the conclusion of the characters, but I think I would have been OK if I had stopped after #2.
    A perfect ending!
I listened to the first two books in the series and loved them, so I had to get the 3rd one! I used a credit that I was planning to use on a different book, but alas, I didn't want to wait! This is an historical romance and not my usual genre.

    Publisher's Summary:
Nineteen-year-old Aldine McKenna is stuck at home with her sister and aunt in a Scottish village in 1929 when two Mormon missionaries ring the doorbell. Aldine's sister converts and moves to America to marry, and Aldine follows, hoping to find the life she's meant to lead and the person she's meant to love.
In New York, Aldine answers an ad soliciting a teacher for a one-room schoolhouse in a place she can't possibly imagine: drought-stricken Kansas. She arrives as farms on the Great Plains have begun to fail and schools are going bankrupt, unable to pay or house new teachers. With no money and too much pride to turn back, she lives uneasily with the family of Ansel Price - the charming, optimistic man who placed the ad - and his family responds to her with kind curiosity, suspicion, and, most dangerously, love. Just as she's settling into her strange new life, a storm forces unspoken thoughts to the surface that will forever alter the course of their lives.
Laura McNeal's novel is a sweeping and timeless love story about leaving - and finding - home.
    Members Reviews:
Well, written, interesting, different family saga
I wasnt sold till Scotland and NY was behind Aldinethose parts felt almost superfluous to the story. But I kept listening because Angela Dawe is my favorite female audio narrator. As soon as Aldine gets to Kansas, the story picks up.
I could have listened to an entire book about Aldine, but the book takes a turn and we end up with the POVs of all the Price family members. I was especially impressed how McNeal took unlikeable characters seen from Aldines POV, who became much more sympathetic when we were in their heads. Nevertheless, it did not make Aldine an unreliable narrator, the reader just understands the characters motivation better.
I dont want to give any spoilers, but the book went in many directions that I didnt expect, all of which were interesting and satisfying. Also loved the historical details of time, place, and events.
An outstanding tale of the 'dirty 30ies'
The author spins what at first seems to have a predictable next step but then she swerves. This occurs throughout the novel. all the while whetting your appetite for more. A long novel, there are many twists and turns, narrated expertly. The character development is complete. At times you can almost catch the odours of the folk or the lemon meringue pie many enjoy with coffee at the town cafe.
    depressing and boring
What disappointed you about The Practice House?
The story was not interesting. I kept waiting for it to get that way and it never did. None of the characters was I ever invested in their welfare, most I found terribly annoying making one bad decision after another or just having an endless string of bad luck. The writing style to make each character a point of view character was unnecessary. Knowing the boring lives of all the characters did not make it more interesting and sometimes just made it difficult to follow.
Has The Practice House turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes. I used to read this type of book more so perhaps i'm just finished with this type... Sad, uneventful stories about everyday life and mistakes. I read to escape normal life, however, my life is a party compared to these characters.
Have you listened to any of Angela Dawes other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. her performance is well done. Her voice is sad as suits the characters.
