When her best friend gets in Leahs face about her refusal to deal with her life and her drinking, Leah is forced to make a decision. Can this brand-conscious socialite walk away from the country club into 28 days of rehab? Can she leave what she has now to gain back what she needs? Joy, sadness, pain, and a new strength converge, testing her marriage, her friendships, and her faith.
    Members Reviews:
    A bit disappointed
I agree with some of the other reviewers that the main character accepted her alcoholism too easily. My knowledge and experience with this horrible disease is that the alcoholic goes through a period of denial for a long time before accepting the fact. They'll even try proving to themselves and others that it's just not so. I would have appreciated more details about Leah's treatment in rehab. Not much said about that. Near the end of the book, Leah's friend Molly reveals her diagnosis of breast cancer and the need for radiation therapy. She talks about having to go through hair loss from radiation. What? Hair loss is a side effect of chemotherapy, not radiation. I also thought the book ended too abruptly with too many unanswered questions.
    Unique voice
This author has a good all around grasp of how to make her readers feel something for her characters. I did find that there were parts of this book that seemed to sail a bit too smoothly considering the subject matter at hand. However, everyone reacts to their personal demons differently, so I reserve judgment having never lived through the situation the main character in this book does. I found it was pretty easy for me to get into this book and immediately I liked the main character and wanted to see her succeed. The way she thinks of herself and the way her internal dialogue is expressed clearly sets the scene for the rest of the book, without making everything too obvious.
I really enjoyed the way the author didn't over-describe everything and allowed the reader to have a little space to use their imagination while reading this work. I thought the ending was appropriate and also appreciated that this author did not choose the cliched everything is beautiful and perfect storyline that has been over utilized a million times. I would recommend this book.
    Had potential
At the beginning I didn't like the main characters. They weren't nice people. Then the story developed and they were growing in a good way. It would have been a wonderful story if things were resolved at the end. The last chapter wasn't written. I don't like to read a book with no resolution. There were too many unanswered questions. There was no point in reading the book.
STORYLINE IN BADLY NEED OF REHAB ITSELF!
Since there have been so many well expressed pros and cons on WALKING ON SHATTERED GLASS, I don't want to beat a dead horse, so to speak. So I'll aim to be succinct and to the point.
As a writer, Christa Allan knows how to express herself, and I thoroughly enjoyed the way she turns a phrase. For a debut novel, I gave her an extra extra star for effort and completing a novel.
That being said, her storyline, itself, is badly in need of intervention and needs to go into writer's rehab.

Meandering down the road of life---may contain spoilers
I found this on my Kindle with no idea when I'd purchased it, but decided I'd give it a read. The opening chapter had a good hook and I was led in by the promise of lots of tension and gut-twisting to come.
Unfortunately, it didn't fulfill the promise.
The premise is this: after a six-year absence, Maura has returned to the little town where she and her husband had gone for his first church posting. Apparently one of the church bigwigs, an old lady everyone called "Miss Hattie," has died and left Maura the town's theater. But in order to inherit, she must move back into the parsonage and live with her estranged husband Nick for at least six months, at the end of which she has to put the theater to use for at least one performance. If these conditions are fulfilled she'll own the theater and her husband's church will get a big donation. The conflict, of course, is that having left her husband, Maura has no intention of ever even seeing him again, much less cohabiting with him. And her husband, who is still hurt and confused by her unexplained departure six years earlier, isn't sure he wants her around, either.
The pastor is a true example of forgiveness here, almost from the beginning covering his hurt and being helpful and kind to Maura, although he occasionally lets slip a snotty or snarky remark showing that he's still miffed. Maura is more openly aggressive, and there's a lot of awkwardness and "I don't wanna do this" from both partners. But it's amazing how just a couple of weeks later they're getting on as well as coffee and cream.
Maura's story is given mostly in exposition (telling, not showing) what had happened that had caused her to leave after living there only a few months. She had also had a real crisis of faith (which was part of why she left). Unfortunately, it's pretty clear early on just what that was, although the author does not finally come out with it until about 3/4ths through the book, but by then it's old hat and being supplanted by more recent events anyway. We are also left to wonder just why it was so obvious to Miss Hattie that Maura should be left this theater, or why Maura should want it. At various points throughout the story we are told (not shown, with one exception) that Maura had some involvement with the theater, but we never know what it is.

"It's Like hearing a Hallmark Hall of Fame story"
I read and reviewed this book on Amazon when it first came out in paperback. Then I read it again on my Kindle some years later. And now I have just listened to it as an Audible book.
Listening to the book creates a very different experience. While listening you can close your eyes and just let the story wash over you. There is no reading effort. The job of interpreting the emotional context of each scene is in the hands of the narrator. There is still the 'theater of the mind' creative experience but it is far different than it is when reading. I enjoyed this book most as an Audible book listening experience. But then I had read the book twice before.
I give the narrator very high marks for this Audible version because of her use of multiple voices. With an Audible book it is very important for the voices of the major characters to be different and to sound like the sex they are. Male voices have to sound like males and females, females. The narrator also needs to get the emotions correct. As such the narrator must perform the book, not just read the words. This book is excellently performed and I give the narrator my highest marks.
That said, I'm going to post some of my print review as it is quite detailed and the book is worthy of serious commentary.
Simply telling what "One Imperfect Christmas" is about does not do the novel justice. It would be like saying that "Tom Sawyer" is simply a story about 19th Century boys growing up in the Midwest. "One Imperfect Christmas" is a serious book and warrants a serious review.
In good novels the characters change in significant ways as the story unfolds. In serious works, like "One Imperfect Christmas", not only do the fictional characters change but the reader changes as well. This potential for growth in the reader's consciousness is what gives great literature its universality and its timelessness.
Serious literature has the potential to impart experiences, knowledge, and sometimes even wisdom. More importantly, literature can enlighten the reader in a way which might not be possible in any other fashion.
    Here's what I mean:
Have you ever lamented: `If I only knew then what I know now'?
I think this lament is common to all mankind.

Would you listen to They Almost Always Come Home again? Why?
I would definitely listen to They Almost Always Come Home again. Ruchti's intricate characterization made this an excellent audiobook!
What did you like best about this story?
Ruchti masterfully crafted this story blending the ordinary with the unexpected. As the lives of the main characters are revealed, the listener is compelled to continue. If I could call an audiobook a "page-turner," this would be it.
What does Lisa Cordileone bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Loved it, as I have all of the other novels by Ann Gabhart. Great book and interesting look at what the Shakers belief was and why some people joined them.
    Romance and Intrigue
Strange that romance and intrigue could be found in a Shaker novel, but the author skillfully wove them together. Even better she added Asher, the faithful, heroic dog! Read and enjoy.

At last! Short works by some of CBA's best-loved fiction authors, including Jerry Jenkins, Randy Alcorn, Terri Blackstock, Deborah Raney, and Angela Elwell Hunt, are compiled in one gripping volume! These masterfully told short stories promise to transport listeners around the globe with amazing tales of international romance, mystery, and humor. A short bio accompanying each story allows listeners to "meet" their favorite author. The book even has a philanthropic element: all contributors are donating their royalties to The JESUS Film Project, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ International.

Not new, very inexpensive, never outdated
What a delicious reading find. The price is simply the cost of the shipping at this point in time. The 29 stories short stories are from a wide variety of very accomplished Christian writers. What a great way to try out new authors. What a wonderful book to set aside for short reading periods. It takes only a few minutes to read one story.
All of the authors contributed the royalty they should have received to the Jesus Film project.
I believe my favorite, although many of the authors have already become favorites of mine before I found this book, was the story titled "At the Village Gate" by Sigmund Brouwer. It had such a surprise ending. I was caught off guard. But many others were a close, tying second place.
This is also a value purchase for any church library. Treat your church friends and buy it for your church. You and they will be blessed. I was.
    Five Stars
    great book to read
    Uneven but not unenjoyable.
I've always loved short stories. And I've read enough short stories to know that writing a *good* short story is a tremendously difficult art. The writers of this collection may have proved themselves at writing novels, with successful Christian novelists such as Karen Kingsbury, Randy Alcorn, Angela Elwell Hunt, Terri Blackstock, Jerry B. Jenkins, Sigmund Brouwer and others all trying their hand at the shorter form of writing. These writers collectively are members of ChiLibris, an organization of Christian novelists, with all royalties going to the evangelistic efforts of the JESUS Film Project. The stories themselves have the theme of international settings and travel, and like the novels of these writers seek to focus our attention on eternal spiritual truths. Their ambitions and intentions may be noble, but that doesn't mean that they are guaranteed to write good short stories. Fortunately, they themselves are not very pretentious, as is evident from the introduction.
The collection of 29 stories as a package is rather so-so, with many rather "ordinary" stories that fail to stir emotion or the heart. But there are a few outstanding efforts that are certainly worth reading.

    POWERFUL MESSAGE AND STORY!
Would you listen to Hush in the Storm again? Why?
If it was edited...the clicking at the end of parts...and the rough recording in certain places was really irritating....
What other book might you compare Hush in the Storm to and why?
I am sure there are other books out there about this subject...but I have not listened to them yet...
What does Lynden Blossom bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
    She does...she gave a good performance...I would give her a B-
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it too long and drawn out...not a bad book at all, its a good book...just could have been condensed a bit...and for a strong female character Jen is also weak...at times I was like...REALLY?
    Any additional comments?
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
First off, I want to say I really like a good christian story...I like when people have faith...I like when people find there way back to faith...and this had that!
Jen thinks her husbands dead, and is grieving for him...then all of a sudden she gets wrapped up in this crazy dangerous world...she is kidnapped, drugged, and introduced to the dirty truth...Her husband was not a good man...she is in grave danger and the man who is trying to help her is someone she is not sure she can trust....she turns to God again finally and eventually gets through this...and is actually rewarded in the end in my opinion...This was a good story, decent narration and I liked the happy ending!
    Thank You Audiobookblast(dot)com
    Good!
Truthfully it took me a bit to get into this story at first. It's not my typical genre but something about this story sounded interesting to me and I'm glad I stuck with it because I really enjoyed this one. The narration was really well done and the story itself had a couple things I didn't see coming and I really enjoyed it.
** A copy of this audio book was provided in exchange for an honest review**
Very well detailed and relevant story.
Where does Hush in the Storm rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It isn't my genre, so it's the only reason it doesn't rank high.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the wholesome relationship of the main character and Tom/Travis.
What does Lynden Blossom bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I thought she brought the main character to life and gave her a realist voice.

They've helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now 12 new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.
Mari wants her sister Crystal's wedding to be perfect. But a poorly-chosen maid of honor may turn it into a disaster.
Mari Hays's older sister Crystal is getting married, and Mari is ecstatic to be part of the wedding. But she soon finds her expected role of maid of honor has been delegated to the worst possible choice: Sienna Jameson. She's catty, selfish, and totally into herself, and when Sienna discovers handsome professional baseball player Derrick Richardson is the best man, she sets her sights on her next boyfriend instead of on the wedding plans.
Meanwhile, Mari is determined to keep the glamorous event afloat. Wrapped up in dress fittings, bridal showers, and baking teacup-shaped cookies, she is shocked when Derrick has taken notice of her. In fact, he treats her like she's a home run. With the wedding day looming, an emotional and sensitive sister, a selfish maid of honor, and intense pressure from Crystal's soon-to-be in-laws, Mari fears her attempts to make her sister's wedding perfect will be for naught.
Can Mari keep the waters calm until the bride and groom jet off for their honeymoon? And will she allow herself to be caught by Houston's most eligible bachelor?

    LOVED IT
Mari's older sister is getting married. And Mari couldn't be more thrilled for her, except for the fact that her sister chose her best friend to be the maid of honor. No problem. Mari will still work hard to make her sister's day be perfect, despite the maid of honor who is doing everything wrong. The groom's best man is the handsome right fielder for the Houston Astros, Derrick Richardson. As Mari assists her sister in all of the wedding details, she and Derrick find themselves thrown together more and more frequently. What starts as a friendship soon develops into something else.
I absolutely LOVED this book. Janice's books always make me laugh. And this one was no exception. I'd love to see Mari & Derrick in another book. I loved the way that the main characters stepped in to ensure that the bride and groom's special day was everything it could be despite the very undependable maid of honor.
    Great book
This book made me smile and laugh. I enjoyed it so much. Mari sister Crystal is getting married. She is really excited to help with the wedding and would really love to be maid of honor but things don't work that way. Her sister choices Sienna who is not really into helping with the wedding. She is more interested in the best man and what she wants herself. Derrick is the best man and he finds himself attracted to Mari. I love the nickname he calls her. You will need to read it to find out what it is. A different twist on a wedding story. Really love the story.
    What a great, feel-good story!
Mari Hays is excited to find out her sister is marrying the love of her life and has so many ideas for the perfect wedding..... Until she finds out her sister picked someone else to be the maid of honor. Mari doesn't let it get her down and is determined to make sure her sisters wedding dreams come true, despite her place at the end of the bridesmaid line.
