Why did he lower himself when he is the highest in the universe? Listen to the Gospel of Mark as he gives us the answers to these questions.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
Listening to the Bible will change the way you understand scripture. The stories and poems and instructions comes in through the ears and consume your whole being as God's word becomes part of a living experience. The Common English Bible is not simply a revision or update of an existing translation. It is a bold new translation designed to meet the needs of Christians as they work to build a strong and meaningful relationship with God through Jesus Christ. A key goal of the translation team was to make the Bible accessible to a broad range of people; its written at a comfortable level for over half of all English speakers. As the translators did their work, specialists working with 77 reading groups from more than a dozen denominations reviewed the texts and read them aloud to ensure a smooth and natural listening experience. Easy readability can enhance church worship and participation, and personal Bible study. It also encourages children and youth to discover the Bible for themselves, perhaps for the very first time.
Who is it for? The Common English Bibleis committed to the whole church of Jesus Christ. To achieve this, the CEB represents the work of a diverse team with broad scholarship, including the work of over 120 scholars - men and women from 24 faith traditions in American, African, Asian, European, and Latino communities. As a result, the English translation of ancient words has an uncommon relevance for a broad audience of Bible readers - from children to scholars.

A great way to pray with the Psalms every day
Would you consider the audio edition of CEB Common English Bible Audio Edition with Music - Psalms to be better than the print version?
I enjoy the audio version because it makes it easy to pray with the Psalms every day. I find that the music background does enhance my listening experience for meditation and doesn't interfere with hearing the text. I find I can listen to the Psalms while driving, while waiting at the doctor's office, just before going to bed for the night, and when I first wake up. Since they are on my Audible app on my iPhone, they are always with me.
    Any additional comments?
I have many translations of the Bible, but I really am enjoying the freshness of the Common English Bible. Some have commented that this translation is a paraphrase, but that isn't true. The translation was done by 120 scholars from the original sources. Many of us who have grown up with the BIble are used to the antiquated language of older translations and are uncomfortable with changes. When I have encountered a verse that seemed to stray from the more familiar language, I checked it out against original sources and found the translation to be accurate in every case. So I have learned to trust this translation and am enjoying the freshness and the accessibility that the Common English Bible offers.

No Chapterization but seems like a good reading
What did you like best about CEB Common English Audio Edition with Music? What did you like least?
    Positive: The readers seem good.
Negative: There is no way to know which book you are in. The Books and chapters are not listed at all.
Was CEB Common English Audio Edition with Music worth the listening time?
It will be worth listening to if the books and chapters can ever be indexed. I will still listen to it but can't use it to follow the lectionary.
    Any additional comments?
I hope they find a solution to this concern and make this a more usable download.
A good reading of the CEB.
The biggest downside of this edition is the poor navigation. The audio book chapters are chapters of the Bible, but there is no easy way to locate a particular book.

  • Tyndale's Bible: Saint Matthew's Gospel Audiobook by William Tyndale

Title: Tyndale's Bible: Saint Matthew's Gospel
Subtitle: Read in the Original Pronunciation by David Crystal
    Author: William Tyndale
    Narrator: David Crystal
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-27-14
    Publisher: The British Library
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 14 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Bibles
    Publisher's Summary:
What was so special about the Tyndale Bible? How does it sound to us today? The first text of the Bible to be printed in English was the New Testament of William Tyndale, published in 1525-6. Its repercussions lasted for almost a century, stimulated by the religious intolerances of the age, and Tyndale's influence can be seen in most of the Bible translations over the next 100 years, not least in the language of the King James Bible of 1611 - as this recording of Saint Matthews Gospel in the pronunciation of Tyndales own time makes vividly clear.

I only wish it was the full Bible
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
ABSOLUTELY. Anyone who regularly reads the KJV needs to listen to this. Seeing the difference between Tyndale and the KJV is interesting, but the real benefit is the OP. Hearing the Scriptures in this accent/pronunciation removes the distance between you and the text. After a few minutes the old-timey language and grammar doesn't sound old-timey anymore. It feels fresh, and close, and urgent in a way that is difficult to communicate. I desperately wish that David Crystal would do a full KJV audio bible in OP. I would recommend this to anyone who finds the thee/thous goest/doth language of the KJV to be dense and discouraging. After listening to it in this accent, it feels clear as water, and not formal or highfalutin at all. For language nerds, this is also super cool to hear the OP which you can tell is a sort of "mother-accent" to a dozen modern English accents.
    Performance that draws one on
What made the experience of listening to Tyndale's Bible: Saint Matthew's Gospel the most enjoyable?
The narrator capture the original pronunciations. His reading was impeccable.
What did you like best about this story?
The staunge tongue drew one along.
Have you listened to any of David Crystals other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but now shall look for more.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Familiar and yet not... watch, you'll be spellbound.
    Any additional comments?
Like a parable. You'll find yourself thinking about the message because you've heard it.

It was a real joy to get this replacement
A real gem. I had these earlier in my life and lost them along the way. It was a real joy to get this replacement. It would have been nice if the producer: Bethany Fellowship had these in CD format. The dramatization and sound effects for this audio bible is the best I have heard in all the collections of dramatized audio New Testament out there.
This is the BEST dramatized Bible out there
This is the BEST dramatized Bible out there! I own the cassette tapes and loved listening to them years ago. Just recently I decided to start listening to and audio Bible again, so began to search the Internet for options. Every single one I tried could not compare or even come close to this one. I was determined to find out if it was now in a format that would be compatible with my phone, so I could listen to it on the go. I was overjoyed to find out that is the case! Parts of this dramatization makes me cry every time I hear it. It makes the Word of God come alive and is so powerful! I highly recommend. :)

An audio sample is worth a thousand reviews...
Believe it or not, there are over forty KJV audio Bibles. From the ones that I have listened to, I would give Bethany Fellowship four stars. These cassette tapes are identical to the now digital/mp3 version from Sound Life Ministries.
