My favourite Amanda Quick story

Where does The Perfect Poison rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

Maybe top 20? It's a fluff romance after all. It'd made my list due to the detective story in it. Also, Patience Tomlinson is the reader. Some of the female romance reader just can't do male voices. Her voices are precise, narrative voice is neutral and crisp, different from character's voices and doesn't 'bleed' through.

What did you like best about this story?

Patience Tomlinson's performance. I got it because she's the reader. Oh, and the main female character has a garden and wears spectacles and is a bad ass of her own right. Old fashion pepper spray anyone?

Have you listened to any of Patience Tomlinsons other performances before? How does this one compare?

Farcical!

A short time into this book I had to give up. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. With every help from the narrator it sounded like a not very funny Monty Python sketch.

hard to get in to

This was a really hard audio book to get in to, in fact I never really did. The narrator?s voice is like a drone and I found that it was easy to blank out and ignore unless I really concentrated. This was a shame as from the blurb I thought I would really enjoy it.

Very entertaining. Love this author 's work.

Nothing New Here....

Hirt tells his story very well, and he knows his setting very well.

However, I kept feeling, as I read his book, that he is only telling a tale which has been told before. Just nothing really new here. There's so much really good Western story telling out there by Ed Gorman or Cameron Judd, which deserves your attention.

This author is wonderful. Her stories are staged mid 20th Century. They are filled with English humor and wit. The main character's in all her books are string women. She is a feminist of her day

Heartwarming tale

I read this book years ago and loved the quirkiness of it, then forgot who the author was. I have a new tablet and decided to download a book by this author whose works I love. Imagine my delight when I realised that I had found the story I had lost, written by my beloved Mary Wesley.

Not quite as good as the Turkish Gambit, but still warrants five stars - Erast Fandorin is the perfect gentleman detective - and William Hootkins narates the story in just the right way to keep you listening to every word.

Super story.

Memoirs of a Geisha

A tear-jerking, funny account of an innocent young girl whose life is turned upside-down when her poor fisherman father is unable to cope with having two young girls and a dying wife and sells her to be a Geisha Girl. This story is fascinating and shows what a hard life these poor girls had after the betrayal of their father. One sold as a prostitute and the other a Geisha. Well worth the read/listen. I have now also bought the book to read!

Brilliant

This was my first audio book so I have little to compare it to however I enjoyed it so much that I have upgraded my shuffle to a Nano so that I can listen to lots more!

The narrator's accent added to the realism of the story that moved along at a slow pace, allowing you to take in each stage of the main characters life. The attention to detail transports you into another world from which you view the life of a little girl as she is torn away from her family and taken to a city far from home. Here she slowly developes into one of the most important Geisha of her time. You are given an insight into her sense of duty, her hardship, her anguish, her survival and ultimately her feeling of self-worth that finally leads her to love and happiness.

This is far from a love story but is a factual dialogue about Japanese life in former times.

Try it - you won't be disappointed.

Disappointed with cuts!

This story is a favourite of mine so I decided to have it as an audio book. It has been spoiled by being abridged losing many key points in the story. I enjoyed the performance though. I guess I will have to check more carefully to avoid abridged books in the future!

Love Love Love

I can't get enough of this book. So gripping and heartbreaking and at the same time lovely story. I love the narrators voice her calm and gentle voice makes the book even better.

Memoirs of a Geisha

Honestly speaking I am very critical when it gets to audio books as the narration isn't appropriate most of the times.

This is not the case for this book thou. The Narrator they have chosen and her accent matches perfectly the main character "Sayuri". Its a breath taking story of a young girl and her trials. I would highly recommend the book/audio book to anyone. From a personal stand point the book/audio book is definitely worth the readers/listeners time.
