Title: Hadji Murad [Russian Edition]

Author: Leo Tolstoy

Narrator: Oleg Fedorov

Format: Unabridged

Length: 5 hrs and 15 mins

Language: English

Release date: 05-03-13

Publisher: New Internet Technologies

Genres: Classics, European Literature

Publisher's Summary:

This short novel, published after Tolstoy's death, is the last novel the great author wrote. It tells the true story of Hadji Murad (or Hadji Murat, alternatively), an Avar who commanded the peoples of Dagestan and Chechnya in their resistance against assimilation into the Russian empire. Tolstoy had first heard of Murad during his travels, and the author became inspired by Murad's refusal to give in to the demands of a corrupt world. Hadji Murad shares many of the same themes found in War and Peace. Those enchanted by Tolstoy's work may find yet another treasure in this lesser-known historical novel.

Titel: Die Ratten

Autor:: Gerhart Hauptmann

Erzähler: Rudolf Rieht, Maria Fauser, Karlheinz Schilling

Format: Unabridged

Spieldauer: 1 hr and 12 mins

Sprache: Deutsch

Veröffentlichungsdatum: 10-10-12

Herausgeber: Der Hörverlag

Kategorien: Classics, European Literature

Titre: Lettres choisies - 1728-1778

Format: Unabridged

Durée: 9 hrs and 20 mins

Langue: Français

Date de publication: 09-06-12

Éditeur: LYRE AUDIO

Genres: Classics, European Literature

Title: Les Misérables

Author: Victor Hugo

Narrator: Michael Jayston

Format: Abridged

Length: 2 hrs and 24 mins

Language: English

Release date: 07-11-12

Publisher: Copyright Group

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 3 votes

Genres: Classics, European Literature

Publisher's Summary:

Victor Hugo's tale of injustice, heroism, and love follows the fortunes of Jean Valjean, an escaped convict determined to put his criminal past behind him. But his attempts to become a respected member of the community are constantly put under threat by his own conscience, when, owing to a case of mistaken identity, another man is arrested in his place; and by the relentless investigations of the dogged policeman Javert. It is not simply for him that Valjean must stay free, however, for he has sworn to protect the baby daughter of Fantine, driven to prostitution by poverty.

A compelling and compassionate view of the victims of early 19th-century French society, Les Misérables is a novel on an epic scale.

Members Reviews:

Excellent and very abridged version

I have no experience with Les Mis and wanted to know the basic story. This abridged version was perfect for the purpose. At 2.5 hours, it was a quick run through the highlights. The performance is excellent and much is spoken from the characters' POV. I realize this was like the Cliff Notes for a much more complex work, but that is what I wanted. I was able to listen to the entire book during a 3 hour plane flight. The performance is stellar.
