Best One Yet

This 5th volume of the 6 Sisters series has been the best so far. A Fantastic heroine, a delicious hero, a ridiculous plot, all mixed up with the usual supporting cast. Diana loves the hunt. Hijinx ensue when her father is convinced to allow her to join the hunt if she dresses in men's clothes. Add a card sharp who looks like a dark Adonis and a somewhat reformed rake into the mix and you get a delightful, well-written regency. Very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.

Not Disappointed a'tall

Yes, the stories of the sisters (5 out of 6 at least) follow the same formula .... So I don't claim that the books entertain me because they are all so dis-similar! They do, though, entertain wonderfully. Though the books' formulas are the same, the personalities inserted are so different from each other that the unfolding is still rewarding enough to make them a great fun read. Most enjoyable!

Chesney 18

Old stories written by dead authors, new stories written by authors still alive, can be just as good to read today as they were when written. Reading about Regency England is my favorite time period to enjoy. I picked this story because the author's style of storytelling matches my reading interest level. An easy story for an easy read.

I Was expecting this one to be great because of the reviews

This book only had 193 pages and almost half way through the book there was still no spark between the hero and heroine. The heroine did not even seem attracted to the hero yet and I can't tell for the life of me if he's handsome or not from the authors description of him. That might not be a problem for some, but for me it was agonizing. I have too many books that i'm looking forward to read, to waste my time on this one.

More of the fashions and mannerisms of Regency England.

MC Beaton has done a good job of studying the fashion and behavior of English society. Descriptions of the mannerisms, dresses, and courtship in Regency England is very well done. The stories themselves are charming. I enjoyed this.

The woes of the vicker.

I just love MC Beaton. I have read just about every book she has written.

This series is about a little vicker and his daughters. As he marries them off to rich husbands he becomes more and more wealthy. His favorite sport fox hunting becomes more possible with the pounds he gets from them. The only problem is his religion suffers because he hunts more than he preaches.religion

Daphne

I absolutely LOVE these book by M C Beaton. It's hard to like a book so much that you don't want to put it down, and then be so disappointed when you are finished. I want the stories to go on and on forever.

Funny!

I loved how Daphne tries to act crazy with Simon, the Vicar is hilarious, and Lady Godolphin always makes me laugh! I think we see all the Armitage family in this book. Great read, if you want romance, like to laugh, and see several happy endings in one book this is it!

Excellent romance series written with keen wit

The entire series is excellent, portraying s all the insecurities of becoming an adult in English society. Beaton understands human nature well and all the venerable feelings of the sisters as they enter the adult world with an usual, but loving father, and a mother that is a perpetual hypochondriac and unable to help her daughters.

A Romping Good Time

The 4th installment of the 6 Sisters series was a fun romp from London to Brighton. Daphne is the daughter to be married and looks and acts like a perfect wax doll. She believes perfection of beauty is the only armor she has against the rest of the world. She was an interesting heroine. Her hero was as dreamy as the others. Minerva remains all that is proper and Bella is still a drama queen. A lovely read. Highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.

M.C. Beaton always delivers a good reading!!

I'll make it short but sweet... M.C. Beaton is a good writer that knows how to deliver a good mystery or cozy like this one. Good for a rainy afternoon at home, or a sunny day by the seaside, entertaining, clean, NOT like her Agatha Raisins but written in the same style and with good characters.

Never a waste of time or money to buy one of her storiea!

Saly: Edwardian Candlelight #8

Sally Blane has decided she is fed up of being acting unpaid nursemaid to her sister Emily's unruly children. When she sees an article in a newspaper written by a woman she decides to leave her sister's home, take all her small savings out of the bank and find herself a job in Fleet Street.

She ends up with a job which is not quite the sort of thing she expected - she has metamorphosed into Aunt Mabel, the agony aunt. In this role she is invited to spend a weekend at the home of a Duchess and advise her on the best way to get her son married to someone suitable.

Sally soon finds it isn't easy to pretend to be someone else and it can lead to even more complications in her life. I enjoyed this light entertaining story set in the glamorous Edwardian era. Sally is a very determined young lady who refuses to see her destiny in settling down and raising a family. I loved the eccentric house party guests and the problems which result from Sally's disguise.

If you want a book to relax with then try this series of Edwardian Candlelight stories. They are amusing and fast paced and have the `feel good factor' ideal for dark winter evenings.

Kitty

Kitty Harrison lives a penny pinching existence with her parents in Hampstead. When her father suddenly dies their financial circumstances are revealed to be very much better than they thought making it possible for Kitty to be launched into society and attract a husband.

Kitty is quite timid and needs to be taught how to stick up for herself against those who are trying to do her down. This is an amusing romp of an Edwardian story with an element of crime woven into Kitty's attempts to find happiness. I loved the older female characters which M C Beaton does so well - Kitty's mother, Euphemia, the society lady who is introducing them to high society, Lady Amelia and Emily Mainwaring who teaches Kitty how to look after herself.

The misunderstandings and the eccentric characters make for an entertaining read even though no one can be in any doubt that Kitty will find happiness in the end even if she needs to learn some painful lessons along the way.

If you like historical romances, you'll like this book. But the scene where two lords are reviewing a romance novel to see what the heroine likes is the best part of the story and will have you continuously laughing out loud! While Emma Powell does not do male voices all that well, her timing and tone are impeccable. Well done ladies!

Another Handsome Duke

Another sophisticated, handsome, arrogant hero saves the day for a young ingenue debutante. Really, Ms. Beaton! Another older catch of the Season caught by a seventeen year old child? =) You really make me feel my age. Even so I do love your Regency romances. Daisy was a fun read.

This was a fun book

Strange

What a strange story. I read this series on KU and mercifully they are all short stories. At the start of the story, the h is discovered trespassing on the local Earl and Countess's property and is reported. She gets called in along with her friend and accomplice and is about to be expelled from schxool when the H, a Duke, walks in and saves them. Later it's discovered that she's the daughter of a nobleman, who is currently living in France in disgrace because of gambling. The h receives an allowance from her father (supposedly) and moves in with the Earl and Countess. The h makes a wager with the H over finding true love and that's the theme of the book. She looks for love in all the wrong places and makes lots of mistakes. Somehow the H always rescues her but he is a reluctant H and pretty ambivalent for most of the time. As I said, very strange and not romantic at all.

Enjoyable Edwardian Romantic Comedy

The authorâs books should not be classed in the genre of Romance Novel. They are multifaceted. What we have is a glimpse of the time period told with humor and wit with a romantic story thrown in as a bonus. In this case, it is the golden Edwardian period, the beginnings of the modern era with just enough of the social strictures and class separations to make things interesting. The author hints at the social unrest and absurdities of the aristocrats with such a light expert touch I found myself lol-ing at the father who killed flies with a shotgun. But her talent lies in the depiction of the eccentric characters from sandy haired foxlike debutants who jousted with words to flighty and promiscuous matrons who changed lovers as frequently as house parties. Daisy offers us the outsiderâs viewpoint into this upside down world. I felt that the author looked fondly and indulgently upon our nave but good hearted heroine. The romance is that such an ordinary girl could bridge the wide social chasm to capture the heart of the cynical Duke of Oxenden.

Five Stars

Good book

Charming

A heartwarming love story. Reminiscent of The Notebook, with a twist. The characters are believable, had me smiling and in tears. References to places and landmarks on the island are not over done, though you can still imagine you are there with descriptions of warm sand, breathtaking sunsets, fragrant plumeria and tropical trade winds. Not a "fairy tale" ending, but certainly befitting the story. Enjoyable read.

Review Everett Peacock's Latest Book

Best of Everett's books so far, but expect next to be best, whenever it comes. There's magic, but completely believable for anyone who's lived on Oahu and watched the sunsets. Even if a reader finds it is unbelievable, he/she will wish it so.

rushed ending.

I've enjoyed all that Everett has written thus far. This book however, ended abruptly, as if it were rushed. I hoped that it may have been more rewarding in the end. I was slightly disappointed.
