Suspenseful with Evil Lurking Around the Corner
If you could sum up Network Deserted in three words, what would they be?
    Interesting paranormal plot
What was one of the most memorable moments of Network Deserted?
When Scarlett decided to have the microchip taken from her body, we didn't know what to expect. Would she die? Yes, I was surprised!
What three words best describe Hollie Jacksons voice?
    factual, moderately emotional
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, when Henri realized that Scarlett was no longer interested in him as a boyfriend, just a friend.
    Any additional comments?
About the Story: The Network would pluck children from their parents, choosing them for their potential abilities. If they didnt perform as needed they would send them to the Frontline or use them in experiments, creating monsters. If you wanted to live, you didnt thumb your nose at the leaders.
A team of four very put-together teenagers, who had been trained by the Network to survive and to kill somehow had angered the Network. They were to be sent to the Frontline. No one returns from the Frontline. Their leader, Scarlet, had a hot temperament and a fierce need to protect her team. Oh, did I forget to tell you she had amazing abilities? Before they were sent, Scarlet and her three team members, Henri, Jennie and Tony escaped the Network, using the very skills honed by their intense training. They headed toward the forest, the territory of the enemy.
Once in the forest they had new problems, but Scarlet was willing to chance it. All they needed was safe passage. They soon find themselves in a community of misfits, those who the team had learned to hate. The Network had fed them stories, but were they true? Expecting to distrust the enemy, they find help and knowledge.
Each of the team had a kind of microchip inserted under their skin they had no idea they had. If they leave it in, the Network will find them and kill them, if they try to remove it, they may die. If given the choice of certain death or possible death, the team chose the only path that gave them a chance to live. Through magic and the skill of the vampires, ghouls, werewolves and fae, they each died, but returned to the living by being sired by one of each species. Scarlett became a vampire, Jennie a fae, Henri, a ghoul and Tony a werewolf.
More choices await these brave teenagers, more adjustments, both physically and emotionally. With their previous abilities and their new ones, they become a formidable team. The question is, can they escape the evil that pursues them and use these abilities for good rather than evil?
My Thoughts: This was a fun, action-packed listen. It had all the paranormal happenings which engages my imagination. I was never bored with the pace of the story nor what was happening. I kept listening asking myself whats going to happen next? Scarletts sire, is their new-found friend and also appears to be Scarletts true mate.

Vampires are nothing compared to what this group deals with. You want horror? This audiobook gives you scary stuff and beyond.
Trail of Bones will keep young adults glued to their headphones. Young adult girls will like Rake and Jose because they are not your typical teenagers. Young adult boys will like the adventure and probably even the girls in the book.
This is a great fiction book for teenagers that contains all the elements to keep them reading. Action, adventure, thrills, spooky stuff that would make a vampire run in the other direction.
As you read this action adventure tale you will ask yourself what you would do if your teacher suddenly shed her skin and began a lesson on the anatomy of the human body? Would you fall out of your chair in a dead faint or freeze like a stone with your vocal chords clamped so tight you can barely breath?
If you survive that, and then suddenly find yourself in a mountain setting with four mean men as your drill instructors - would you make it through the rugged training?
The small group will face an evil force that is comprised of the most hideous creatures that have been cloned to serve in an army bent on destruction and seizure of the entire planet. These are the foes who must be destroyed.
Come with them into the night, into the dark, into the jungle. Find out if you can keep your wits on this Trail of Bones. You are promised a throbbing thunderhead of an adventure.

    Would make a good movie.
This book is all that I think a science fiction book should be for kids. If you are a Goosebumps fanâs you will love this book. The book succeeds, first of all, for its quality of writing and atmosphere. The book has a creepy atmosphere like you're in a real world setting, and yet something bad is lurking at the end of each chapter. The slow pace, establishing the story, characters and slowly-building events, makes Miss Boeve the intervention teacher the scariest teacher anyone can have, all the more effective. The scene of the kids going thru the ritual of silence is one of the most disturbing scenes in sci-fi history. It truly captures the feeling that scary stuff is happening here. Let's not forget the hideous things inside the basket. There is another side to the story that is one of honor and loyalty. Core family values are interwoven into the story making it a classic.
    Sci-Fi at it's Highest!
Well written, high adventure. Four prankster teens, Jake the Rake, Jose, Tiffany and Sarah, some months before H.S. graduation, find themselves in a special classroom (ostensibly just desserts for their silly misdeeds, but the plan goes much deeper). They meet their "alien" teacher who sheds her skin, removes her skull and a bone or two in preparation for their class in "forensics." And there's the promise of more to learn in an off campus "boot camp." "Oh boy" is that promise ever kept!
All of this just begins the wild adventure from the author's incredible imagination. His wonderful sense of humor combines with a sincere concern for the future of humanity and his deep compassion painfully acquired in wartime. Standiford, a Vietnam, Marine veteran, brings a wealth of knowledge and emotion that weaves its way through the entire content.

    Great Young Adult Fiction!
Island of Tory is a great story, loaded with many supernatural elements. Magic spells and curses create a suspenseful adventure for its heroine, Arella, and provide a plethora of progressively surprising revelations for its readers. The writing is definitely geared toward the young adult audience, appropriately, with its characters exhibiting adolescent-like thought processes, observations, and interactions. However, the author places these characters into a wonderfully rich and detailed world that should entertain readers of all ages.
There is a twist at the end of the book which may leave readers wanting. A few holes in the plot are left open, and there is a lack of a cohesive ending. Of course, this is almost certainly calculated to create anticipation for the sequel, and I, for one, am intrigued to see where this story leads. I recommend Island of Tory for anyone interested in young adult paranormal fiction, or for anyone looking for a fun, action-packed read.
    American novel about Irish Lore
This is a very moving story about traumatic events in a young girl's life on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Surprises run through the entire story right up to the end. I enjoyed reading it and recommend it for young readers in particular. It could be a classroom novel for middle school.
    Can't put it down!
I LOVE this book. Very original. I couldn't put it down! I bought the kindle version after meeting the author at a local author signing event and it sucked me in... I read the first several chapters right there at the event.
    An Exciting Page-Turner!!!
Five stars indeed! This book was a thrilling mystery with constant plot twists and turns. Geither portrayed a story that placed the reader in the characters shoes. Though this book is aimed at teens and young adults it is a very entertaining short read for adults as well!
    Island of Tory
Regina Geither's "Island of Tory" is a unique blend of mystery and intrigue. It blends a young woman's quest to leave the island with Irish history and lore. I loved it.

    Good Premise, bad follow through.
I am not going to repeat the summary, it is there above, I am just going to get down to the writing.
I loved the summary of the book, I mean how can you not? I was very intrigued to see where the author would take this idea.
The book was a nice quick read, which makes sense when you realize how choppy and under-developed the story and the characters are. The characters felt flat. They were interchangeable and really did not have much of a personality. We start to get a feel for one of the characters in a scene and then it would be cut off. Madge had this great option of being a really spectacular character and was introduced in a way that I was excited to read more about her, but that's as far as it went. The main character Calla did not stand out at all, and felt interchangeable with the other nameless people. I never really felt like I got her or her motives or just understood who she was. Calla and "chef" were probably more of the background rich characters of the story but again barely even touched upon or given much growth or basic development.
The story flow was choppy. I felt the set up in the beginning could have used more detail so we could understand the society a little better through the rest of the book. There felt like a lack of detail and/or good transitions. And the part at the end Madge... Complete left field and not sure how that really has to do with book or the series. IT felt overall like it was too long to be a short story but not long enough to be a novel and it got lost somewhere in between.
The premise for the series is excellent and very intriguing but I hope that the author takes more time to develop her writing in general and give more life to the characters that are begging to be heard.
    Present Tense in the Future
I was given this book free for review. If it wasn't for that and a fascinating plot, and characters I cared about, I would have not finished reading it.
If there is one thing for sure, that drew me in, I love dystopia books. Not fond of zombies, oops, lombies. (Still not sure where that come from.)
Then I am a frustrated greenhorn farmer living in an apartment, so reading about the commune type living was a welcome relief.
Try as I might, I couldn't get past the present tense method of presenting the story. It didn't, as it sometimes does, make the story more gripping.

My favorite Band Does Not Exist: So Boring I Had To Put It Down
There have not been very many books in my life that I could not finish, most books I am able to push through and get to the end. Not this book, My Favorite Band Does Not Exist was so boring that I was not able to finish it. I read 35 chapters and 187 pages of the 324 page book before I just decided to give up completely. This book is very unimaginative, gory and really quite boring. Most book reviews are more interesting than this book! Most of the time I feel very disappointed in myself if I do not finish a book, but with this book, I felt no great loss. The story's premise sounded very interesting and the thought of a book being about a guy who thinks he is in a book fascinated me, but the delivery of the story is very choppy. The author must be a very unimaginative person who revels in pointless violence. I cannot tell what period in time this book is supposed to be written in, it sometimes seems futuristic but other times it just seems like the author changed certain things to make it seem like the setting is in a post apocalyptic world. The names of people, places and months are strange but are just normal names changed to seem new. The names in this book really annoyed me because there is not one normal name throughout the whole book! They are odd names like Idea and his parents Loving and Vengeful Deity, Planter, Splitter, and Fireskull (doesn't take much imagination to call a guy whos head is on fire, Fireskull). Plus, names of months were changed to be Junuary, Jovember, and Dogust. Also, how some of the characters talk seems very pointless and babyish. The books' foremost problem is just sheer boringness, even the action seems quite subdued and not very exciting at all. The Fireskulls Revenant part of the book is very ignorant and very gory. The whole point of the book (Fireskulls Revenant) just seems to kill as many people as possible in a very gory way and start wars and have weird seers flying everywhere. I really would not recommend this book to anyone, maybe a younger boy would like it a little bit, but I cannot imagine any younger kids being able to stay interested in this book for very long. Maybe the ending of the book is more interesting, and perhaps the ending would explain everything but I really don't care to find out.

    Any additional comments?
A phenomenal story narrated by one of the best narrators there is!
Raymond is this 13 or 14 year old kid suddenly thrust into a world of adventure and non-stop action. He continually thought of himself as a coward but I think many would feel that way if put in his position.
My favorite character was Isiro <---- might be spelled wrong. But he was a true warrior in this and I only wish he'd been in the story more.
I was a bit disappointed in Raymond by the end of the story because he never made a conscious decision to do anything that was brave, or that would help someone. What looked like brave actions to others were accidentally done. So, I felt as though he didn't actually grow into the role of a warrior. But what a fun, death defying adventure he went on. I loved all the creatures and somewhat mystical people he came across.
This is definitely a very well creatively written adventure!
My main issue with this audio book was editing. This audio book was obviously not edited.
And it's noticeable around chapter 24 or 25 and chapter 39. But it just shows how professional and amazing Chris Patton is as a narrator because even with a small distraction, he's able to bring you right back into the story.
The other issue I had with this story were the quotes at the beginning of every chapter. I absolutely hate when music is played, quotes are mention, or the title along with the chapter is done for every chapter. It's such a huge distraction especially when I'm engrossed into a story.
So, other than that, like I said before this is definitely a very well, creatively written adventure!
