Available for the first time in audio, Steve Coll's trek across a socially and politically damaged South Asia.

Best-selling author Steve Coll is one of the preeminent journalists of the 21st century. His last two books, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Ghost Wars and New York Times best-seller The Bin Ladens, have been praised for their creative insight and complex yet compelling narratives - and have put him on par with journalists such as the legendary Bob Woodward. Now, for the first time ever, the audio edition of On the Grand Trunk Road is finally available, revised and updated with new material. Focusing on Coll's journeys in conflict-ridden India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Afghanistan as a bureau chief for The Washington Post, On the Grand Trunk Road reveals a little-seen area of the world where violence, corruption, and greed have had devastating effects on South Asians from all walks of life.

Title: George Orwell

Subtitle: English Rebel

Author: Robert Colls

Narrator: John Lee

Format: Unabridged

Length: 10 hrs and 36 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-25-14

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 5 votes

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Artists, Writers, & Musicians

Publisher's Summary:

An intellectual who did not like intellectuals, a socialist who did not trust the state, a writer of the left who found it easier to forgive writers of the right, a liberal who was against free markets, a Protestant who believed in religion but not in God, a fierce opponent of nationalism who defined Englishness for a generation. Aside from being one of the greatest political essayists in the English language and author of two of the most famous books in 20th century literature, George Orwell was a man of many fascinating contradictions, someone who liked to go against the grain because he believed that was where the truth usually lay. George Orwell: English Rebel takes us on a journey through the many twists and turns of Orwell's life and thought, from the precocious public school satirist at Eton and the imperial policeman in Burma, through his early years as a rather dour documentary writer, down and out on the streets of Paris and London and on the road to Wigan pier, to his formative experiences as a volunteer soldier in the Spanish Civil War. Above all, the audiobook skilfully traces Orwell's gradual reconciliation with his country, a journey which began down a coal mine in 1936 to find its exhilarating peaks during the dark days of the Second World War.

Title: Bravura!

Subtitle: Lucia Chase and the American Ballet Theatre

Author: Alex C. Ewing

Narrator: Paul Boehmer

Format: Unabridged

Length: 14 hrs and 13 mins

Language: English

Release date: 02-03-14

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Artists, Writers, & Musicians

Publisher's Summary:

Long-awaited biography of the "Queen Mother" of American Ballet.

To many people, Lucia Chase (1897-1986) was the American Ballet Theatre, and her reign as the queen of American ballet lasted for more than four decades. It was Chase who brought Nureyev, Bujones, Kirkland, and eventually Baryshnikov to ABT. Under her leadership, the company worked with such legends as Agnes de Mille, Anthony Tudor, Jerome Robbins, and Twyla Tharp. Her drive, ambition, tenacity, and money kept the doors open even during the lean years. A dancer when the company made its debut in 1940, she was artistic director for an unprecedented thirty-five years, from 1945 to 1980. Over the course of her career, she received numerous honors and awards, including the U.S. Medal of Freedom, the nations highest civilian honor. Combining unique personal insights as Chase's son along with experience garnered from his own professional dance and administrative career, Alex Ewing offers the definitive story of one of the true pioneers in the world of American ballet.

Critic Reviews:

A book that should be read by historians, ballet artists, ballet lovers, and book lovers in general. It is a fascinating story not only about the growth of ballet in America but also of the courage and persistence of a Great Lady." (Irina Baronova)

"It's high time the magnetically American story of Lucia Chase and Ballet Theatre was told. Like the history-making and aptly named company she kept, Lucia was colorful, daring, and almost self-destructively determined--an original always in passionate pursuit of the original." (Arthur Laurents)

"Lucia Chase, an American original, is made vivid on these pages. For over forty years much of ballet in the U.S. rode her coattails, or vice versa--you decide." (Eliot Feld)

Title: Dashiell Hammett

Subtitle: Man of Mystery

Author: Sally Cline

Narrator: Steve Baker

Format: Unabridged

Length: 7 hrs and 19 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-13-13

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 7 votes

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Artists, Writers, & Musicians

Publisher's Summary:

Dashiell Hammett changed the face of crime fiction. In five novels published over five years as well as a string of stories, he transformed the mystery genre into literature and left us with the figure of the hard-boiled detective, from the Continental Op to Sam Spade - immortalized on film by Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon - and the more glamorous Thin Man, also made iconic with the aid of Hollywood.

A brilliant writer, Hammett was a complex and enigmatic man. After 1934 until his death in 1961, he published no more novels and suffered from a writers block that both shamed and maimed him. He is identified with his tough protagonists, but his tuberculosis compromised his masculine identity and alcoholism may have been his answer.

A former Pinkerton detective who valued honesty, he was attracted to women who lied outrageously, most notably Lillian Hellman, with whom he conducted a thirty-year affair. A controversial political activist who stood up for civil liberty, he was also a very private man. In this compact new biography, Sally Cline uses fresh research, including interviews with Hammetts family and Hellmans heir, to reexamine the life and works of the writer whom Raymond Chandler called the ace performer.

Title: Beat the Devil

Author: Mishka Shubaly

Narrator: Mishka Shubaly

Format: Unabridged

Length: 3 hrs and 12 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-10-13

Publisher: Audible Studios

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 11 votes

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Artists, Writers, & Musicians

Publisher's Summary:

In Beat the Devil, addict, alcoholic and best-selling Kindle Singles author Mishka Shubaly returns to battle his ultimate demon: his obsession with rock 'n' roll. Over three decades, his affliction has spawned immeasurable chaos and destruction (and, yes, maybe some debauched good times). While his rivals have graced the covers of Spin and Rolling Stone, Shubaly's projects have always flamed out in the 11th hour. At 36, sober and stable, Shubaly is poised to finally achieve the rock 'n' roll glory he has lusted after for years...or walk away from his lifelong dream forever.

Shubaly spares no gory detail in this autopsy of his wasted years and Beat The Devil is rife with anonymous sex, casual drug abuse and behind-the-scenes desperation borne out of chasing an unattainable dream. Everything that has endeared Shubaly to his readers is here: his resistance to common sense, his inability to accept defeat, his probing intellect, and his heart.

Mishka Shubaly is Amazon's most frequently published Kindle Singles author with a string of four best sellers to his name. His first-hand account of a disaster at sea, Shipwrecked, rescued him from anonymity. The Long Run, a mini-memoir detailing Shubaly's transition from drunk-and-drugged gutter dweller to sober ultra-marathoner was a flyaway smash. He continued his hot streak with Are You Lonesome Tonight? an incredible-but-true tale of online love gone awry, and Bachelor Number One, which chronicled Shubaly's induction into the dark world of reality TV.
