    Captivating mystery
    Grade: B+
    One word: Captivating
Audrey's father may be a drunken loser, but they doesn't mean she thinks he deserves to be in prison for murdering her best friend and cousin Carly. With the help of Carly's ex Neily, she's determined to find out the real killer. Too bad Audrey and Neily can barely stand each other, but they do agree the true culprit is probably one of their prep school classmates.
Anna Jarzab created two difficult to like characters in Audrey and Neily, who alternated telling sections of the story. Both had difficult relationships with their fathers and were considered outcasts and neither reached out to the other, the two people closest to Carly, after her murder. I had a hard time understanding why one of them hadn't contacted the other, if not to provide support than to seek it. Neily had more dimension than Audrey.
I loved the mystery and plot of ALL UNQUIET THINGS and suspected almost every character of the murder, including that the actual killer was already in jail and Audrey was wrong about her father. Jarzab did a great job leaving enough red herrings and major and minor dishonest characters that any number of scenarios would have made sense. I particularly appreciated that Audrey and Neily's verbal sparring didn't have a romantic undertone, because guys and girls can be just on and off maybe friends, without eventually realize they've fallen madly in love.
THEMES: family, parents, death, grief, drugs, murder, mystery
ALL UNQUIET THINGS is an engaging mystery that will keep you guessing.
    Yuck
This was an average-to-bad YA mystery novel. I almost quit when I was not even half-way through, because of the endless dialogues - I got quickly tired of the banter between smart-a teenagers trying to show off. It was not remotely interesting, and the characters are not half as likeable or smart or cool as they seem to believe they are.
The mystery of who really killed teenage girl Carly, is told in alternative parts by Neily, her ex, and Audrey, her cousin. They are not exactly best friends since Audrey's dad was arrested as the murderer, but they strike an unlikely alliance in trying to figure out who Carly's real killer is. Their quest is not breathtaking to say the least : they fight, they act all cool and wise and smart, they confront one person, they have another very long verbal battle, they confront someone else, etc.

    Refreshing
Not what I expected and that is probably what I liked most. The plot was well thought out and fabulously put together. It was full of twists and turns and totally had me going.
The narrator was subpar but I got over it.
    Unreliable narrator
Tiring story, listened to 2/3 of it and gave up. Unreliable narrator makes it impossible to get involved with the main character. She keeps repeating "but this time I'm telling the truth," which makes it even harder for the reader to believe it.
    Awesome
Great book beautifully performed. Weird twist but stick with it, it'll convince you.
    CW transphobia (hurtful ignorance, mostly)
Did not like this book at ALL
I did not enjoy this book I'm mad that I wasted a credit on purchasing this book. It was boring and uninteresting I actually was unable to finish this book cause I felt like the story line was just to much with no real direction behind it. It was like to much unnecessary information added for no reason for instance I was completely confused what nationality/ethnicity/race the main character was. She said so many backgrounds that at one point I was like is she lying is this part of her constant lies and then I was like but what the hell does it have to do with anything!? Do not waste your time with this book unless you like to be tortured.
    Liar
I thought there was too much cursing in this book for it to be a book for teens.

    Fun Vampire Love Story
From the title and genre, I thought I had this book figured out. Just another teen vampire romance novel to go along with all the others. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It starts very similarly, girl meets boy vampire, boy vampire tries to hook up with girl, girl denies him but secretly likes him, yada yada yada. Whats different? This book is hysterically funny and the characters are fantastic.
On the first day of Jessica Packwoods senior year, in walks mysterious and slightly creepy, foreign exchange student Lucius Vladescu (Its so fun to say his name) from Romania. Lucius informs Jessica that she is a vampire princess and the two have been betrothed since birth, you know, minor details that Jessicas parents failed to mention.
At first Jessica is repulsed by Lucius and disgusted at the thought of being betrothed without her consent. But, as time goes on, she sees the good in Lucius and begins to care for him. However, in the time it took Jessica to realize her feelings for Lucius, he seems to have gotten over her and their betrothal. Lucius begins to rebel from his familys arrangements and expectations and pushes Jessica away. In his rebellion, Lucius turns dark, almost evil, and Jessica must fight for him back or lose everything connected to her birth family.
The narration was fabulous and I'm actually glad I listened to the book instead of reading it. Katherine Kellgren is one of my favorite narrators and I loved the narrator for Lucius. Hearing Lucius Romania accent made this book for me and lets face it accents are fun. The book alternates between Jessica and Lucius point of views, although Jessicas is the primary perspective. Lucius perspective is introduced in the letters he writes to his uncle about his experiences in courting Jessica. His letters are an important part of this book and without them Im not sure I would have liked Lucius.
Although Lucius dark side pulls at your heart, I enjoyed his unexpected change in feelings because it compelled me to keep listening. When Lucius rebels from his family, his character changes drastically, more so goes through a metamorphosis. Lucius change in character also forces Jessica to go through some changes of her own. I love character growth so I ate this up with a spoon.
Many people gave this book a not so great review all stating that theyve read this book before. I have to disagree, I thought this book was different and had a lot of originality. This book was funny, dramatic, romantic, and so much fun.

I am so picky about my books , but I live this one. Absolutely un-put-down-able.
    Awesome
Made my long drives enjoyable. Can't wait for the Guardian when it comes out. Yas queen
    Horrible Narrator!!!
I have never listened to a book I could not finish and im sad to say this is the first. The narrator is horrible and I cannot get into it. I do not know how anyone can listen to the entire book. I had high hopes for this book considering people gave it such high ratings. To me it was a waste of money. Im so disappointed.
Fascinating first book in a series.
What I wasn't aware of when starting this audiobook was that it is the first book in a series and not meant to stand alone. It does have plot - and indeed enough plot to keep me rivited - but mostly it serves as an introduction for future books.
Despite that, I did enjoy the book very much. It was very well written, and the characters fascinating. The book was read by Eliza Dushku who I felt did a very good job. A good narrator does not draw attention to herself but uses her voice to draw attention to the story, and I thought she managed this very nicely.
I'll be interested in reading the next book in the series.

So begins a powerful year of transformation and a journey toward self-discovery that surprisingly has little to do with the physical, and more to do with an honest look at how Rosemary feels about herself.

    Great for teens and adults
I greatly enjoyed listening to this novel, both because the author wrote a warm, endearing story and because the reader did such an excellent job. Supplee managed to capture the heartache of teen obesity without being preachy or maudlin. Rosemary, the main character, was strong yet vulnerable, and I could empathize with her and the other characters. The sub-plot of her mother's cancer was also handled very well, and I genuinely LIKED all of the characters...even the prickly ones. Well done.
    Love, love loved this!!
I hated for this to end. I hadn't realize it was actually young adult fiction when I chose it, but it didn't matter. It's a terrific story - Supplee has an amazing insight into teenaged girls. The narrator, Eve Bianco, is one of the best I've ever heard, hands down. Her southern accent is spot on. I couldn't tell if she is actually southern or not. An absolutely wonderful witty, engaging story.
    Big Girls Need Love, Too!
I loved this story! The author got Rosemary's "voice" just right. Not too mature or childish. Just right.
Rosemary is a little over-weight. ok, a lot over-weight. She has endured one diet or another for as long as she can remember, to no avail. finally she decides to take matters into her own hands. First she tries diet pills. They help for a short time. But with the help of a dietician she realizes that this isn't the healthiest way. On top of this she finds out that her tough-as-nails Mom, has cancer. It's a lot to go through, and Rosemary has a lot of growing up to do.
This is a great book for teens and adults, and opens the door for some great conversations.

Little artichoke is lovable...she developed nicely and was a great listen...Great book for teens and adults alike

    Strange but good
Where to start? This story was very confusing at first, but I expected that because I had an advanced warning. The story went back and forth between telling the story of a present day situation with a bunch of kids to an older story of a bunch of kids. The similarity being the place they were located, Jellicoe Road, in Australia. Jellicoe Road reminds me of a summer camps where they have kids who live in the camp and then bring in kids from the neighboring town and then bus kids in from wherever else. The three groups have mini battles of control and territory, but all in a nice way (or at least it is supposed to be in a nice way.) Most of the kids that live at the Jellicoe Road school seem to have some emotional dysfunction or other problems they are dealing with, like both parents getting killed or pyromaniac tendencies. The main character, Taylor, is a Jellicoe Road resident. She is a bit unstable and has huge gaps in her memory and is constantly trying to figure out how to get back to her Mother who had abandoned her when she was 11.
Toward the end of the story, I did decide that I liked the book, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. (I am a hot chocolate drinker.)
    BUY THIS BOOK NOW!
Recipe for a perfect audiobook: a mind bogglingly good book mixed with an amazing narrator. There is no way to over recommend On the Jellicoe Road. If you are in doubt, please give it a chance. You will not regret it. I loved every minute.
    Difficult Start, Great Ending
Jellico started out painfully slowly with no sense of where the story is going. After an hour I put it down and didnt pick it up for over a year. After three hours I was considering deleting it even though I have a rule about always finishing books. That first was just sucha chore, I thought it could be the first to go.
It wasnt necessarily a bad or even badly told story; it was just seemed so murky and muddled. The story-within-a-story interludes were as yet unframed, the goals of Taylor (the lead) were still unknown and the initial set up (the war between three groups of teens that live or study by the Jellico road) was confusing and, as such, uninteresting.

An introspective tale in the vein of "Paper Towns"
I purchased Chris Creed when I was going through a teen detective/mystery phase.
It wasnt at all what I expected and the style didnt really gel with me initially so I put it down for over a year. I just picked it up and finished the second half and I have to say it was a fairly worth-while read.
It is not a true detective/mystery story which I unfairly punished it for initially. It is a much more introspective piece that details Tori Adams changing views of his friends, family, community and society as he looks into the sudden disappearance of outcast Christopher Creed.
It is very much like 13 Reason by Jay Asher or Paper Towns by John Green in that the story is actually about what the narrator learns of himself and life etc when they do some investigating and start to understand the lives of people they had pegged completely wrong.
As I mentioned the style didnt really work for with me. I had a problems nailing a time period in my head (early to mid 90s? pre-constant cells phones, start of regular internet, use of floppy disks!?) which kept me a little out of it.
There was also something with the narrator/recording that was very uneven and sometimes made me think it had switched narrators at the start of a new chapter until the accent settled down again. It was definitely not the worst offender I've heard but it also kept me from getting totally lost in the audiobook.
There also wasnt a great deal of action which I think lets it down when compared to some of its peers in the genre but it never got too nebulous , vague or existential in its conclusions/lessons/understandings which made Chris Creed more relatable for me. There are never any easy answers in a book like this, but I was satisfied with where the narrative and the book finished up.
It was the final few pages that really cinched the book as a definitely recommend with me. I wont give away spoilers but it is when Toris story finally came together. He is telling this tale a year after it all happened but we are given no context until the last chapter and I wish Id understood his motivations/actions a bit earlier to frame the book not just the narrative.
Regardless, I got serious chills on the last page and I urge everyone looking for a nice quite tale, particularly fans of the books I mentioned above, to give it a read.
