Members Reviews:
Not Quite "As Told By..."
This book wasnt for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone less interested in everyday people telling the stories of their lives.
How could the performance have been better?
Let us hear the authentic voices of London. Let us hear people in their environments. We would have loved to have heard the market in the background as opposed to a sterile and sadly soulless recording.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. We expected to spend our commutes listening to the different dialects and accents of London. Instead we heard a lot of interstitial (and lackluster) narration and the same actors simply retelling the different stories. These are not "the voices of London", these are the voices of five actors reciting stories in a silent recording studio.
Any additional comments?
There are two versions of this audiobook and I'm glad we tried the abridged version first.
Very Ordinary
Coming from someone who lived in London for the most part of my early life I found this a pretty ordinary, average stab at London life. I could, should, maybe, write a much better London review. Could be just the old 'square mile' or should we push it out to the M25 ??!!!
I left it a long, long time ago.
