Anything You Want: 40 Lessons for a New Kind of Entrepreneur by Derek Sivers | Summary and Analysis
While Derek Sivers' Anything You Want claims the everyman appeal that comes with using a title directed to a second-person pronoun, the book is first and foremost the story of an individual. Sivers is well aware of that fact, too, and states it right in the first few minutes. This here, Sivers forewarns, is a story of success, yes, but it's the story of a specific success. Anything You Want, Sivers tells those who have made it as far as minute two, is really the story of the particular thing that he wanted. Many people - most people - want something. The interesting bit is that Sivers actually went out and got it. He also got a multimillion-dollar corporation, too. Still active in the entrepreneurial world, Sivers tends to get a lot of questions about how he managed to pull off such large-scale success. Anything You Want is Sivers' attempt to answer those questions all at once, through a single storyline.
This is a summary and analysis of the book and not the original book.

Title: The Best Work of the Best Minds
Subtitle: Business Ethics and Value Creation
    Author: Stephen Hicks
    Narrator: Scott R. Smith
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 21 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-09-16
    Publisher: The Atlas Society
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Business, Management
    Publisher's Summary:
Philosophy professor and entrepreneur Stephen Hicks takes a critical look at unquestioned assumptions in the arena of business ethics.
Excerpt from The Best Work of the Best Minds: Business Ethics and Value Creation:
"In the eyes of many a cloud of suspicion hangs over business.
The reason is that the moral tradition out of which the competence ethic of business arises conflicts with a competing moral tradition that holds business to be immoral or, at best, amoral. For those who subscribe to this latter moral tradition, ethics is felt to be more a matter of stoically doing one's duty rather than having fun, of fulfilling one's obligations rather than fulfilling yourself, of obeying the rules rather than doing what's practical, of giving away rather than creating. Stooping to stereotypes, if this tradition's view of ethics could be personified, she would appear as a matron who goes about sniffing disapprovingly at anyone who seems to be having a good time. Having a good time means self-indulgence - but, she would declare, we are not here to have a good time; we are here to serve others, to be stewards for future generations, to be nice, to take up as little space in the world as possible. Above all, she would continue, we are here to sacrifice selflessly - to society as a whole, to God, for the greatest happiness of the greatest number, to Duty, to the working class, to the ecosystem."
    Members Reviews:
A quick exploration into the ethical heart of business and the goodness that flows from it.
A quick tour of at first counter-intuitive but then immediately obvious insights about the ethical foundation on which the world of business exists. Starting with a fascinating inquiry into how the best work of the best minds come together to provide us with products that dramatically enhance our quality of life, Mr. Hicks explores the essence of business - "the production of values for trade." In this context, the fundamental ethical context of business becomes clear: people offering value in the form of money for value in the form of work/technology/creativity. This voluntary exchange to mutual benefit is not only NOT evil, but fundamentally good. A delightful read.

Title: Supply Chain Risk Management in Entomology Farms Case
Subtitle: High Scale Production of Human Food and Animal Feed
    Author: Ilkka Taponen
    Narrator: Chris Abernathy
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 42 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-18-16
    Publisher: Author's Republic
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Business, Management
    Publisher's Summary:
This qualitative research focuses on risk management in the supply chain of industrial entomology companies that are mass-rearing insects for human food or for feed for farmed animals. This research presents answers to such questions as what are the risks related especially to the entomology industry, what are the reasons behind the risks, and finally how the risks can be mitigated. The industry has started to bloom only recently in the 2010's, meaning that the industry is still lacking knowledge based on historical data and scientific coverage of the field.
This research is one of the first in the world that identifies the supply chain risks associated especially with the large scale insect farming for human food and animal feed, and determines how the risk profile is formed. The novel nature of the industry reflects too many parts of the supply chain risk management. By the time of writing this research, the established networks and operators, together with standards and regulations, are still in the making. Even the biggest companies in the market are still only planning their large farming facilities.
Risks like fluctuations of feed raw material prices are in common with traditional farming, but the main risks that insect farms are facing are related to the health of the animals. The knowledge of pathogens and parasites of insects is very limited. As the nature of the health risks is unknown, the mitigation must be based on precautions and preventive actions.
What is alarming for the companies operating in the field is that even a well-managed risk control cannot give high level of security simply because of the lack of knowledge. The industry will continue growing globally. When the industry gets an established foothold and the production and supply chain functions get standardized, the risk management can reach an acceptable level.

A Stand Out in the World of Business Books!
Being self-employed or working for small businesses for 25+ years, I'm always drawn to entrepreneurial literature. Unfortunately, most seem like re-treads of the same material. However, Mr. Westwood and Mr. Johnson have brought a lot of fresh insight to the core characteristics of being a successful business person. I found myself going over some areas a second or third time to make sure I was getting the finer points. This certainly is a book I will bring out from time to time when I feel I need to get re-focused on what is important as a business person.

    Wisdom from the Trenches
TARGET AUDIENCE: I know that the title of this book seems to indicate that it is written for Entrepreneurs however the books is an amazing resource for all of use, not just the entrepreneur but for any of us who want to make great changes in our lives whether it be in our own business, the business we work for or within the walls of our own home. Should be called the Five Characteristics of successful people (But that is too close to Steven Covey.)
NARRATOR: The narrator did an excellent job with this book. Effectively switched between the two authors without problem and without confusion. Well read.
OVERALL: Numerous times I re-read parts of this book. Other times I took my headphones out and shared what I was listening to with my wife and teenage kids. It was very well written and full of great advice on how to become a successful Entrepreneur, and successful in life.

... Gilreath has done an exemplary job - labor of love, in writing Skin in the Game
Jim Gilreath has done an exemplary job - labor of love, in writing Skin in the Game. This is one of those books, that you cannot put down, once you start to read. I have known Jim since 1992, when he placed me at Lahey Clinic in my first Vice President position, in later years he was instrumental in helping me land two other Vice President positions. No other search firm, in my 45year career has been as thorough and detailed and precise in due dilligence and really knowing and understanding, preparing and presenting, prime candidates. Jim also does not play games and groom "brides maid" or lead candidates for positions. HIs book has so much knowledge and history of his own experience and prime examples that he was cognizant of in trying to get candidates to present their best side to the client. I was fascinated reading his examples and true cases of candidates in the application process and I remembered so much about my own situations - that I could relate to Jim's stories in sincere agreement. In his book, Jim relates to boiler plate books such as The Peter Principal,The Games People Play, Machiavelan Theory, by example stories, that most young and also seasoned executives have experienced during their career and that we all continue to identify with. Jim gives away so much of his expertise and trade secrets to help prepare candidates for the application, references and other fine tuning in going after the job. I was truly blown away by reading so much of what Jim knew and what he was willing to share openly in this truly great book, in helping sincere and honest candidates in landing executive positions. Just the process alone, following Jim's directions and mentoring through-out the Skin in the Game should yield a far better chance of getting those wonderful and sacrosanct offers.

    Not Recommended
This is information free and available online to those interested in the subject. I kept getting the sense that the author was cared more about money than the content he was suggesting his audience make for their customers. He feeds many an affiliate link within the texts to profit more himself. I felt like I was listening to a guide for grey hat online marketers.
    Very poor content
Totally waste of time, I don't recommend it. There are way better books that actually teach you something.
