Title: Warpath

Author: Stanley Vestal

Narrator: Michael Taylor

Format: Unabridged

Length: 6 hrs and 56 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-28-08

Publisher: Books in Motion

Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 8 votes

Genres: History, American

Publisher's Summary:

White Bull charged again and again, leading a war party until the last soldier lay dead. The battle became known as Custer's Last Stand, and Chief White Bull as the warrior who killed Custer. In 1932, White Bull told his own side of the story to Stanley Vestal. "All that I have told is straight and true," said White Bull. His story is a matchless telling of the life of a Sioux warrior.

Critic Reviews:

"It is, indeed, a fascinating chronicle which Stanley Vestal tells." (New York Times)

Members Reviews:

Pretty Good Listen

It gives you an insight into the Plains Indian culture. Kind of hard to get through.

Warpath

I have read and listened to many books about Custer's Last Stand. One of the most interesting things I had found out in listening to this Book was how many different people had a feeling that this was it. That they would not return. I didn't realize that there were that many in about two hundred and some men. It was not only the troopers and Officers but native Americans as well. Also. There is a lot more information. I would recommend this Book to anyone. A very interesting listen.

Title: The H. L. Hunley

Subtitle: The Secret Hope of the Confederacy

Author: Tom Chaffin

Narrator: Barrett Whitener

Format: Unabridged

Length: 7 hrs and 37 mins

Language: English

Release date: 10-06-08

Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 19 votes

Genres: History, American

Publisher's Summary:

Now, in a tour-de-force of document sleuthing and insights gleaned from the excavation of this remarkable vessel, distinguished Civil War-era historian Tom Chaffin presents the most thorough telling of the Hunley's story possible.

Of panoramic breadth, this Civil War saga begins long before the submarine was even assembled and follows the tale into the boat's final hours and through its recovery in 2000.

Members Reviews:

Hunley's Secrets

I enjoy history and this book revealed significant chunks of information on the birth, life and death of the submersible H.L. Hunley. If you enjoy history and warfare, especially Civil War and Naval Warfare - you will enjoy this exploration into the idea, manufacture and deployment of the Hunley.

Need NoDoze Please

I had no idea you could make a interesting topic so boring. Narrator has got to be one of the worst I have heard.

Pure drivel

The most boring and uninteresting man who has ever walked the earth. Sad to hear the words pour from his mouth like dry sand. Ugh.

A Thoughtful and Inspiring Endorsement of Obama

As you'd expect from any DNC speech, this one endorses Obama. But beyond that, it is a thoughtful presentation that touches on matters of substance and is a true model for the way all political speeches should be. It speaks to issues that matter, it offers hope, it challenges its audience to participate, and while it speaks to opponents, it doesn't go out of its way to malign them. It doesn't need to. It has enough substance of its own to offer that it doesn't make its point on cute little jabs at others.
