Publisher's Summary:
The United States healthcare system is sick and patients are suffering. We spend more money on our medical care than any other developed country, but our average life spans are shorter.
We take more drugs than other nations and pay far more for them.
Accidental drug overdoses now kill more people each year than vehicle accidents.
Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in America, right after heart disease and cancer.
Why is this happening? What can we do about it? How can we take back our medical care and return to thoughts of maintaining robust physical health rather than managing diseases and disorders? Nowhere in our education do we learn about our rights as patients - not in school, not from our parents, not from our doctors or nurses, not even from a PBS special.
And, as patients, we do have rights. One of the most powerful solutions to getting the care you need and deserve lies in this book.
This book includes special interviews with experts in a variety of healthcare fields.
It's a must for any individual who wants to ensure they get the best possible medical care.

Reading This Book Can Literally Save a Life!
I've helped many people get off drugs they became addicted to simply because they didn't know/understand what the drug was for -- and most importantly what the, oft times, severe/deadly side effects can be!! When I ask why they started taking them - such as pain meds, the answer is always - "The doctor told me to - and (in many cases) he's been my doctor for years!" Yes - the patient should never accept a medication with blind faith ---- but it is the duty, and a LAW, that the patients MUST be told about ALL side effects AND alternatives to the prescribed med. It's called "Informed Consent". This book, first of all, let's people know there is such a thing -- and also gives the vital data on your doctor MUST tell you and what YOU should ask him before embarking on any treatment. Why do I say this data can save a life?? I've talked to too many mothers, whose child committed suicide, after taking medications prescribed by either a psychiatrist or the FAMILY Doctor. Each laments the fact they did nothing to learn about the horrendous side effects or alternatives to taking meds. READ THIS BOOK! Become informed!
DON'T SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR BEFORE READING THIS BOOK!
I began reading âIf Only My Doctor Had Told Meâ to inform myself for an upcoming appointment with a heart specialist. I had taken some tests with alarming results, and was subsequently given two alarming opinions. I did some on-line research and realized I was entering a highly controversial treatment area with convincing proâs and conâs on both sides of the conventional vs. alternative routes. I needed some guidelines so I could evaluate what the various doctors were recommending to me. Berkâs âIf Only My Doctor Had Told Meâ gave me new insights, exact understandings, and a practical guide. I wrote down all the questions I needed to ask my doctor. I knew I was on firm ground as a patient, with rights that are legally built into the Informed Consent laws. It was the first time in all the years Iâve attended consultations with doctors for myself and family members that I felt empowered to ask all right questions.
