    Release date: 11-29-12

    Publisher's Summary:
Drawn from passages and scriptures Beth Moore brings to light in her New York Times best-selling book, So Long Insecurity, this short audio will prompt women to find their soul-deep security in God. Divided topically by common insecurities women face, The Promise of Security provides a portable boost of hope and confidence that will encourage women to continue on in their quest for soul-deep security.
    Members Reviews:
    Wasn't what I expected.
This Audible was disappointing! I listened to Insecurity first. I was hoping Security would have been more like it.
Short but very sweet - Encouragement Central!
Would you listen to The Promise of Security again? Why?
Yes. I will listen to this book over and over again. This is the most encouraging book I have read in a long time! Beth Moore is her own best narrator, and the love of God that she writes about comes across beautifully in her voice.
This book is about security, but it is also about the basic attitude with which a Christian should face life. She is never preachy or judgmental, just loving and encouraging. The concepts that she introduces are very deep, but she expresses them simply and with so much joy that the listener feels refreshed, not overwhelmed.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Beth Moore writes about highly complicated topics with such love and simplicity that it makes theology (the study of God) seem refreshing - not complicated.
What about Beth Moores performance did you like?
Beth's voice contains so much love, reassurance, and comfort that you feel like she knows you personally and is reading the words directly to you.
If you could give The Promise of Security a new subtitle, what would it be?
    Encouragement for the weary soul.
    Any additional comments?
Listen to this book! I cannot imagine any Christian for whom this book would not be a great source of comfort. Her writing and her voice are so soothing that you will want to listen to this forty-minute book again and again.
I find most Christian writing to be at least somewhat discouraging in its view that it is up to you to impress God. Beth's philosophy is that if God has saved you, that means He already loves you, so just relax in the comfort of His presence and enjoy Him. Thank you, Beth!
She does not condone sin or give you the idea that God will not change you, she simply invites you in her loving, carefree, comforting way to approach God and let Him approach you. Personally, I really like that perspective, and I think any other reader looking for comfort and encouragement will, too.
    Amazing!!!!
Just so good, though I wouldn't expect anything different from Beth! Such great words of wisdom pack in a small co pack book. So glad I purchased this book,
    Beth Narration
Really enjoyed hearing Beth read the book herself. Encouraging and peaceful. I would recommend it.

    This is the path...
What did you like best about this story?
This is the path where my feet know how to walk, it is my trail home. As I recently told someone, I've listened to so many books from Audible, that I've reached a point where there isn't anything I'm really dying to listen to any more. This has led to sort of a random approach to picking books, and, being quite hit and miss, a process which I equated to "diving for pearls." A bit of pearl-grading wisdom is, "pearls of poor quality can lose their beauty in just a few months, whereas high quality pearls can last a lifetime."
In continuing our metaphor here, if this book were actually a pearl, in Japan it would be the Mikimoto pearl, or the "cream of the crop" of pearls. I fully expect the wisdom from this book to last a lifetime.
In more mainstream Christianity, my favorite book is The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian D. McLaren. The Wisdom Way of Knowing is like the secret message of the mystics.
The curious thing about The Secret Message of Jesus was, few things in the book were actually a secret. However, one of its strengths was that it cut through to the absolute essentials in a very clear and understandable way. This is also the case with The Wisdom Way of Knowing. In a mere 176 pages, Bourgeault said it exactly the way it should have been said.
The mystics, be it Christian or other, are an elusive bunch and books on them are difficult to pull off. Part of that could be that part of the mystical experience is difficult to transfer into words. It is very easy to write about what Christians believe. It is pretty cut and dry. One could just start with the Nicene Creed and go from there. Next attempt to write about the path to Enlightenment. There is nothing cut and dry about it. Just try to put into words what it feels like to meditate, fast, or gain knowledge of your true inner self. One could only guess that is part of the reason there are far fewer books on Christian mysticism.
This is rather unfortunate. In the Gospel of Thomas, which many scholars agree pre-dates the canonical gospels, Jesus says, "When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father.

    Title: Spirit Rising
Subtitle: Tapping into the Power of the Holy Spirit
    Author: Jim Cymbala, Jennifer Schuchmnan
    Narrator: Jim Cymbala
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 22 mins

    Release date: 02-21-12
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 135 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
For some of us, being a Christian is harder than it should be. Discouraged, anxious, worn down, we wonder what happened to the power and the joy that Jesus promised. Jim Cymbala believes that many of us are missing something vital. Christianity, he says, for even the best-intentioned person or church, is impossible without the Holy Spirit. You can have regular devotions, great preaching, a strong emphasis on the Bible, a great worship team, and a congregation that is trying, but if you arent vitally in touch with Gods Spirit, you are missing out on the life God has for you.
The Holy Spirit, he points out, is Gods agent on earth. Yet he is the least understood, least preached about, and least discussed member of the Trinity. That is sad, because without him, our spiritual lives will always become dry, mechanical, and a struggle. Too often, the body of Christ is divided into two sides. One side stresses the Word of God, separating itself from what it views as the emotional fanaticism often linked to those emphasizing the Holy Spirit. The other side is sometimes known for drifting into unbiblical manifestations and unorthodox teaching while attributing it all to the Spirit of God. But the Christianity we see in Scripture is both grounded in the Word and full of the Spirit.
With stunning stories of how God is working in the lives of people and churches today and biblical teaching about the Holy Spirit, Jim Cymbala invites you to experience God in a fresh and vital way. Nothing else will change our prayer life, our study of Gods word, and our worship more than opening our hearts to the Spirit. If we want power, confidence, joy, peace, and more love in our lives, then we need a better understanding of how and why the Spirit moves so we can join him there.

    Inspired ~
    Any additional comments?
Frequently while listening to this inspired book, I found myself overwhelmed by an awareness of God's closeness. It rekindled a deeper hunger in my life for an active an alive connection with the Spirit of God. It moved me to tears more times than I'd like to admit, and even at the end, what I find myself wanting to do is simply find a quiet place to seek His face.
    Read this book!
I have never heard of Jim Cybala and read this on a whim. And I am floored by how powerful and special this book is. It is so tender and true and spirit directed. I promise you that it will build you as a follower of Christ Jesus.
I'm on to the next one by Jim!
A book every Christian should read/listen to
If you could sum up Spirit Rising in three words, what would they be?
    Library must have
What did you like best about this story?
The examples of redeemed souls allowed me to understand the title of the book. Indeed our spirits rise from the depths of despair when we surrender our hearts to Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to control our lives.
What about Jim Cymbalas performance did you like?
He is very animated and you can picture the scenes in the stories with your mind's eye. He was clear, concise, and emphatic. Surely, if you had no idea whom the Holy Spirit was you would want to go search for him.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The Christian's blueprint for overcoming life's obstacles!
    make me a prayer
Praise the Lord for men lie pastor Cymbala.

    The title is misleading
This was not what I wanted. I needed a commentary not to listens to a verse by verse account. There was indeed a small comment at the end of each chapter but a great deal of lustening was required before reaching it.
