It's a good translation, well read. (They tell me I haven't written enough words, but maybe now I have.) What more need be said?

  • If God Is Good Audiobook by Randy Alcorn

    Title: If God Is Good
Subtitle: Faith in the Midst of Suffering and Evil
    Author: Randy Alcorn
    Narrator: Will Matthews
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 24 hrs and 47 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-18-09
    Publisher: Random House Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 92 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Every one of us will experience suffering. Many of us are experiencing it now. As we have seen in recent years, evil is real in our world, present and close to each one of us.
In such difficult times, suffering and evil beg questions about God--Why would an all-good and all-powerful God create a world full of evil and suffering? And then, how can there be a God if suffering and evil exist?
These are ancient questions, but also modern ones as well. Atheists such as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and even former believers like Bart Ehrman answer the question simply: The existence of suffering and evil proves there is no God.
In this captivating new book, best-selling author Randy Alcorn challenges the logic of disbelief, and brings a fresh, realistic, and thoroughly biblical insight to the issues these important questions raise.
Alcorn offers insights from his conversations with men and women whose lives have been torn apart by suffering, and yet whose faith in God burns brighter than ever. He reveals the big picture of who God is and what God is doing in the world, now and forever. And he equips you to share your faith more clearly and genuinely in this world of pain and fear.
As he did in his best-selling book, Heaven, Randy Alcorn delves deep into a profound subject, and through compelling stories, provocative questions and answers, and keen biblical understanding, he brings assurance and hope to all.

Perhaps The Most Important Christian Book In Print
Randy Alcorn has tackled the toughest challenge believers will ever face: How to defend the idea that a good God could and does permit evil to flourish. Believers may read this book for spiritual growth. Unbelievers may read it for intellectual stimulation. I am reading it to help make sense of the viciously painful, chronically disabling illness with which I have unexpectedly been stricken. My illness defies diagnosis and is probably incurable but it has driven me to this book and this book has been tremendously helpful in transforming my contingent faith into a transcendent faith. I am beginning to see that transformation as far more valuable than the restoration of my health. Healing won't help me deal with the next calamity which comes my way. God's Word, elucidated by this book, will and is.
Highly Recommend for people wanting to get closer
This book has changed my life, a lot of my views were distorted and plain wrong. This book helped me figure out who god is and what he wants. If someone is looking for answers to all the hard questions whether you like them or not. This is it, I will use this book as reference for the rest of my life. Besides the Bible probably the single most interesting and thought provoking book I have ever read or listened to.
    Deep and Wide
Would you consider the audio edition of If God Is Good to be better than the print version?
That's a toss-up. I'm an audible learner, so this fits my style of learning perfectly. However, the apologetics approach to Grace and Mercy is deep, rich, and sometimes complicated. Reading in print might have been better for some of the more demanding chapters.
What did you like best about this story?
Alcorn uses style and tone to make his theology come more alive than many.

    Members Reviews:
    Often beautiful and poetic...
as Tozer rhapsodizes about the qualities of the divine. Some of the material here has appeared in other volumes--either that, or Tozer had a tendency to use a lot of the same examples and metaphors repeatedly--but most of it is worth hearing again. The one flaw in Tozer is that sometimes he can fall into circular logic, especially when he appeals to the intellect to understand the limits of the intellect in comprehending the attributes of God.
    Awakening
I almost didn't get this one since I already had Volume 1 which is quite substantial.
I'm glad I didn't make that mistake, this takes it a step further into a more personal Awakening of Gods personal relationship to us, and how all His attributes engage that in his Pursuit Of Love for us.
    Inspiring!
The words of Tozer reveal the heart of God like few others in my experience. The God that Tozer introduces us to is deeper, richer fuller, with more awesome power and majesty than the God that is commonly preached today. As Tozer states, "We have lost the sense of the holiness of God". (My paraphrase.). Tozer calls us back.
The narration of Michael Kramer is perfect. His gentle, soft-spoken, conversational style makes one feel that he is talking with Tozer himself.
    Tozer this Summer
I am enjoying learning all the Attributes of God. The narrator is very good and I can actually visualize what he is saying. These are the best types of narrations, when it makes you use your imagination.
these 2 volumes have replaced my previous favorite
I really appreciated these two books compared to knowledge of the Holy. more time was spent by tozer explaining each point which allowed for things to sink in much better.

    Bravo! Incredibly Inspiring and Uplifting!
To me this material is wonderful and amazingly easy to understand. The narrator is absolutely perfect for this material! I couldn't stop listening once I'd begun, and I immediately listened to it again. (I'm listening to "He Is There and He Is Not Silent" right now.) There is much in this material for everyone, and it's presented in a way that allows you to take it into your heart and begin right in the moment to change and to see who you are meant to be. Some of the insights are so striking to me and answered questions that I've had most of my life. You may be thinking that I'm pretty ignorant, but you'd be wrong. I've studied the Bible my whole life and I'm 71 years old. I've written Bible lessons that are going into many parts of the world, which I tell you to impress on your heart the need to listen to this material. I honestly believe that everyone who hears Schaeffer's message will make the world a better place. I'm not a member of the same church as Schaeffer was, but he has converted my heart to his way of thinking and living. And I'll add that I've had a sensation of joy and peace that I haven't known for many years since listening to this audio book. As you can imagine, I'm very thankful for the gift of this message.
    Changed my life!
What made the experience of listening to True Spirituality the most enjoyable?
A clear reminder that our Christian lives from start to finish is by faith in the gospel of Christ dying for us and we dying in Christ, being buried with Christ, and being raised with Christ. We live a life worthy of the gospel.
What did you like best about this story?
The first seven chapters were doctrinal and the last seven practical
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
    Find Christ / Find Life
    Any additional comments?
Just a very rewarding book that helps me put my daily life in focus
    Highly recommend
A definitive work on true Christianity. Also Grover Gardner does a great job at reading.
    Encouraging and convicting
    Enjoyable.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the reading of this book and that it kept my last reading position upon my return each time.
    Truly Liberating
Schaeffer brings such a great balance to Christian living. I find myself yearning for a deeper walk with Christ after reading True Spirituality.

    Wonderful book !
This book would be a wonderful book to add to anyone's book collection and would be very helpful to a new believer in Christ. The book is very interesting and not over the top, as some christian books can be to in depth. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to discover the power of prayer.
    Incredible!!!
I have now reread it numerous times and inculcated some of Torrey's work into my preaching, especially his "Hindrances to Prayer." Especially his teaching on "praying with wrong motives" which are incredibly insightful.
Enjoyed immensely and feel blessed from reading!
    narration was very clear
one of the best books I have read on the subject
    keeping for further reference

    It was a great listen.
There is much one can learn from this book.
If you have yet to undertand the power of prayer and the necessity for it, I would highly recommend reading/listenening to this book.
