    Publisher's Summary:
One of the greatest challenges facing Christians today is the powerful influence of secular thinking. From all directions we're fed a constant barrage of persuasive - yet unbiblical - worldviews. This makes it difficult to know where to stand on today's most talked-about issues.
The leadership team at Grace Community Church, along with their pastor, John MacArthur, provide much-needed discernment and clarity in the midst of rampant confusion. Using the Bible as the foundation, you'll learn how to develop a Christian perspective on key issues, including:
Also included is a topical reference guide of Bible verses that address key concerns - a guide that will arm you with right thinking and biblical answers to challenging questions.

    Honest, straight-forward biblical teaching!
Would you listen to Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong again? Why?
Yes! This book is packed with so much wisdom that I will read it multiple times. In fact, I am on my 3rd reading of this great book at the time I submitted this review. I always read his books multiple times so I will not miss out on any of the blessed teachings that he provides through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
What other book might you compare Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong to and why?
Ashamed of the Gospel, Standing Strong, The Truth War, & others by Pastor MacArthur
If you could give Right Thinking in a World Gone Wrong a new subtitle, what would it be?
It is truly difficult to give any significant improvements to a book that is so packed with the wisdom of the Holy Spirit as conveyed through this great teacher. It is obvious that John MacArthur has submitted himself to the teachings of the Holy Spirit and in turn has developed into a Godly instrument of profound biblical insight. But, to make a vain attempt to improve this great read to any measure, I submit "standing, against the tide of religious lies," as a potential subtitle.
    Any additional comments?
I have read many books by John MacArthur's and I find each one of them equally profound and insightful as the one before it or the one that follows.
The reader can instantly conclude that each book is distinctly unique and independent. However, each book is a key piece in the larger completed puzzle. Meaning, each book is packed with it own wisdom and truth, and they are important keystones to the overall truth of the gospel.
Great information but was dry as sand on unbuttered toast
This is a great book that helps in a proper biblical perspective in a world of liberalism. In saying that, I had to "power through" this book in its audio form. It is possible that this type of book would only be good for reading, not listening.
    calvinism 101
If you are into megachurches and "pastors" that make millions of dollars this book is for you. If you want to be told what to think this book is for you. John MacArthur will be happy to tell you what to think for the appropriate fee of course. So have fun.

    Publisher's Summary:
Christianity is a surprising religion. It has changed the world in remarkable ways throughout history simply through Christians living out their faith. More recently, we've become afraid of a habituated Christianity, thinking that routines will rob our faith of its vitality. The net effect is that we've replaced the habits that surprise the world with habits that mimic the worldand both we and the world suffer for it.
Integrating the five habits in the BELLS model - Bless others, Eat together, Listen to the Spirit, Learn Christ, and understand yourself as Sent by God into others' lives - will help you spread the gospel organically, graciously, and surprisingly.
Michael Frost, a world-renowned expert on evangelism and discipleship, makes evangelism a lifestyle that is fulfilling, exciting, effective, and easy to live out!

    Inspiring!
I bought this book with the hopes that it would give me some ideas to live a more "real" Christianity. I have been in church my whole life, but I am always seeking out ways for the truth of the Gospel to be ever more relevant to my life and real in my life (because it is and should be!). This book was refreshing, interesting and included a lot of stories, examples and quotes to reinforce the main points - it challenges the very worldview we have as Christians and provides clear, practical steps for putting this new perspective into action. I probably will not now base my entire life and routine on the strategy of the book, but I will definitely be more aware of the points it emphasizes and seek to implement them in creative ways as I'm able. Well worth the money!
    BELLS primer
This is essentially a longer essay by Frost about the BELLS (Bless, Eat, Listen, Learn, Sent) missional practices. For a short read, Frost packs a lot of sense into this. He hesitates to provide such practical and model-able advice, however, I found that it was helpful to see what this looked like in his context so that I could contextualize it within my own. This would additionally work well as a primer for a small group or MC that was looking to get into some of the BELLS practices.
Solid material crafted into an easy read!
Love this book! It is small enough and an easy read to draw in "nonreaders" while containing all the content and solid discussion of the concepts to keep the interest of missional practitioners! I am leading a group of friends through this book and we are all loving it and feeling challenged at the same time! Well Done Michael Frost!
    Good read
I'm still waiting for the one book that knocks my socks off. No discredit to author. He writes to help those that need to learn and understand how to go about living like Christ in this modern world.
If you are sure how to start this is a good book book to help you map your journey and be like Christ in this dreadful world
A look at what a disciple of Jesus does.
This book gives practical guides on how to grow your relationship with God, your Christian community, and others. Implantation will require effort, time, and commitment. The results should be worth the costs.

    Publisher: Charles River Editors
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 20 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Between 50 and 90 CE, the various writings that comprise the New Testament were written, including the four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles of Paul, and other letters to more general communities of the early Church. But what is recognized as the 26 books of the New Testament today, in literally hundreds of English translations, actually took several more centuries to be determined as "canonical" by the Church. In fact, it was not until a synod in Rome in 382 that the Church in the West formally adopted a list of the canonical books of the New Testament.
For the intervening three centuries, there was much discussion among different writers over the many manuscripts circulating among the early Christian communities. Many of the manuscripts were anonymously authored by members of early heretical groups of Christians who shaped supposedly inspired writings to provide support for their doctrinal positions. Many more had the veneer of inspired texts because they were attributed to one of the 12 Apostles or Mary, the mother of Jesus; they claimed to offer details of Jesus' life not covered in depth in the four Gospels (such as his infancy and childhood), or the activities of the named apostle, or doctrinal teachings.
The process of determining the Canon of the New Testament was a long one. It involved numerous scholars directed by the teachings of the Church sifting through numerous manuscripts with various attributed authorships. The 29 that made it into the canon were those that passed muster in terms of apostolic authorship and conformity to orthodox Church teaching. Most of those that did not make it in failed on those two accounts. Others were not included because they were judged not to have been written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Whatever the reason they were excluded, the writings that comprise the New Testament Apocrypha, while not inspired scripture, do show something of the context in which the early Church developed its doctrines and its writings.
Even today, not every branch of the Christian church agrees on which writings should be regarded as "canonical" and which are "apocryphal", even though some apocryphal texts often have noticeable links with books regarded as "canonical". Regardless, the New Testament Apocrypha refers to texts written by early Christians that were not included in the Bible used by the main branches of Christianity today. These texts vary in subject matter, with some being accounts of Jesus, others being about the nature of God, and still others being accounts and teachings of Jesus apostles. What makes them fascinating is not just the history behind why they are considered non-canonical, but what they tell us about the early Church and early Christianity. Moreover, they offer insight into what sources were used to write them, and whether they shared the same sources as the texts that comprise the Bible today. Given their historical and religious importance, there is still a fierce debate over the authenticity of many of these texts.

Get ready for the wettest, stormiest, wildest trip through the Gospels you've ever taken!
The Gospels are dramatic and incredibly wet, set in a rich maritime culture on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Yet we've missed much of this perspective - until now. Leslie Leyland Fields, a seasoned Alaskan fisherwoman, leads us across the waters of time and culture out onto the Sea of Galilee, through a rugged season of commercial fishing with her family in Alaska, and through the waters of the New Testament beside the ragtag fishermen disciples. Her own story and her fresh insights will challenge your understanding of Jesus and what it means to "come, follow me".

    Breath taking!
I cannot possibly put into words the magnitude of this book. Beautifully written, it will leave you in awe of your Creator, Alaska and wanting more.
    Thank for your words Leslie!
Inspiring and insightful, one of the best books...
I've read in years. I've just finished my third time through, listening to it for fifteen minutes each night before I go to sleep.
I purchased this in the spring while looking for a book about the Galilee of Jesus' day and found it to be so much more than I expected. It's not just that it's written by a woman, although her combination of personal experience in the Pacific waters off Alaska and walking and fishing in Galilee are to the point. It's also that it's more of an extended reflection, not teaching or preaching. Her experience as a fisherman: when she talks about the passion that fishermen have for their work and the complete unlikeliness of Jesus' first followers to leave their nets, she brings her points home with insight, born of thirty years personal experience and her profound faith.
The narration is excellent, and it adds much to the book. I recommend it highly.

    Publisher: Tantor Audio

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
The headlines are clear: Religion is on the decline in America as many people leave behind traditional religious practices. In this follow-up to her critically acclaimed book Christianity After Religion, Diana Butler Bass argues that what appears to be a decline actually signals a major transformation in how people understand God. The distant God of conventional religion has given way to a more intimate sense of the sacred with us in the world. This shift is at the heart of a spiritual revolution that surrounds us - and that is challenging religious, political, and social institutions.
Grounded explores this cultural turn as Bass unpacks how people are finding new spiritual ground by discovering and embracing God everywhere in the world around us: in the soil, the water, the sky, in our homes and neighborhoods, and in the global commons. Faith is no longer a matter of mountaintop experience or institutional practice; instead, people are connecting with God through the environment in which we live. Grounded guides listeners through our contemporary spiritual habitat as it points out the many ways in which people experience a God who animates creation and community.

    Beautiful, moving.
A touching and deeply resonating work on the spiritual migration of recognizing the god who is *with* us.
    Well researched and presented
Very well outlined, documented, and presented. The author has a very pleasing voice that adds to the pleasing narration. The insertion of her political bias took away from the content even though I agree with her feelings and response.

Are you charismatic? He is bigger than your signs-and-wonders events. Are you Reformed? He will not be limited by your theology. As Jesus said of the Holy Spirit, "He blows where he will".

    Many Words To Say Nothing
Purchased this in kindle format and audio through audible.com. Honestly.., this author sounds like he hopes to be some great philosopher. The book rambles on and on; over hill and dale, around and around he goes with many words. Subjectively - objectively, it rambles with empty headed philosophy to tout the vast vocabulary and the "intelligence" of the author.
Really... The audio format gave me a head ache. Jeepers! It's Doctor so and so says such and such, or Doctor what's his name says so and so, while the author points out how he rubs elbows with so and so.
It's blah-blah with no end, and/or many words to say little. Save your money. Purchase a Christian book with a solid message. This book has little value to knowing the Lord.
    In depth Book
A very in depth book focusing on the Holy Spirit. There was a lot of theology that I did not know or understand. There were some aspects that did challenge my own presception and purpose of the hmHoly spirit that opened up more food for thought.
    Good listen
A subject new to me. Will look more into the subjects of, charismatics, revelation and other parts of the bible which mention Holy fire. Wouldn't say I was inspired to look more into the topic but maybe God doesn't want to lead me in that direction at the moment. Would also say I've always been sceptical when it comes to preachers on tv talking about healings, maybe I should be more open and not be put off by incidents later being discovered to be fake.

I really appreciated this book for its practical, yet not a 12 steps for leading change. The principles are true. I recommend this book to new pastors or frustrated pastors/church leaders. Most change agent pastors will know this or have intuitively done this without knowing. There it is helpful to identify what helps change.

God made your heart for love, joy, peace, and wholeness. But pastors say that more than 90% of their congregations struggle with unforgiveness - and unforgiveness can make us forget what we were made for.
What if the most pervasive sin of our day is invisible, hidden deep inside our hearts? What if it affects every aspect of our lives and relationships so quietly and insidiously that most of us miss it altogether? Bruce Wilkinson believes unforgiveness is that sin.
Through the teachings of Jesus, The Freedom Factor reveals the link between our suffering and our unforgiveness. But it also shows how to forgive - for real and forever. The story doesn't have to end with the pain of our wounds. Whatever happened to us happened. But the God who made your heart has shown a way past the wounds, back to the life and love that we were made for - a path toward freedom.

    Flawless
It's one of those books that you need to keep repeating over and over. It has lots of details and information.
    An Excellent and Enlightening Audiobook
This was a fascinating as well as comprehensive Bible lineage. Nothing is left out. It begins with the stone, clay, leather, and papyrus that the words were originally written on to what was used to write with and who was writing it all the way to how we've gotten to the most popular Bible(s) KJV and NIV to date. This was an impressive piece of work written by the late Dr. Neil R. Lightfoot.
I listened to this book slowly as it was a lot to absorb with many details. Ancient texts were called codex or codices and were the first bound books. Early ones consisted of letters, narratives, and etc. This book talks about the languages which were Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The three oldest manuscripts in the world are the Vatican, the Sinaiticus, and the Alexandrian. There's also the Psoriatic, the Coptic, and the Latin.
This book also talks about Ben Asher, William Tyndale as well as other important figures. This is a very comprehensive book and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in ancient text or the Bible. This is a study guide as well and one can skip around to different parts. I'm amazed at how much of this I retained. Loved it.
Claton Butcher's performance was outstanding. He made this an amazing listen. His voice inflections and cadence were so much in tune with the book that he made it easy to follow and understand. His pronunciations were/are impeccable. I'm a huge fan of his work.
Audiobook received inx for my honest review.
    History of the Bible
Interesting. If you like history, and you want to know how the Bible made it thru the centuries, you will find this a good retelling of it.
    Wealth of information!
Loved this book. Gives such great information on how we received the Bibles we have now. Narrator does a great job as well. Book flows well and is a pleasure to listen to.
    Great introduction to biblical studies
The books could also be aptly named "A overview of Biblical Scholarship." To be sure, this isn't a work on theology. Rather it's about the book, its origins and transmission.
I particularly like the fact that author is open about his Protestant bias and does a fantastic job of keeping information separate from opinion. I can trust an author who's honest about his bias more than an author who blends opinion into his/her facts.
The contents of this book are required reading for any person with an interest in the Bible, Christian or otherwise. Because this book is not itself a source of scholarship but rather a compilation of it, the information here can technically be found elsewhere. However, one would be hard-pressed to find it in such a clear, concise, direct and organized way.
