useful book

Python, being a programming language with a more or less general purpose is taught briefly yet in a very organized manner. I can now begin to understand how this can be useful for scientific applications. It has most of what any Python beginner would need, particularly the codes. I would have wanted to see more visual samples of the working program but this serves as a good starting point for now.

Great Book

I was looking for a casual introduction to Python, and found it in this book. Basic instructions about functions and syntax, explained in a concise fashion. I didn't expect the code to be spelled out, but I followed along easily by typing it out at my desktop. Great listen!

This is one of the best aspects of the book

First, let me heap much-deserved praise on Jay Gallentine. The research that has gone into this book is obviously extremely detailed, especially on the Soviet stories. Well done Jay; this book is a worthy follow-on to "Ambassadors from Earth". Thankfully, somebody has captured these stories while the main players are still alive.

A couple of tips: you need to concentrate and devote your full attention to the story lines when reading this book. Do not make the mistake I did of picking it up, reading a few pages and putting it down again. It becomes very hard to follow if you do that, not helped by the sometimes colloquial, conversation writing style. That writing style worked very well in "Ambassadors"; less so with "Infinity Beckoned" because of the added complexity of some of the subject matter. So you need to read this book in large slabs.

A major theme running through the book is the life science experiment program onboard Viking. This is obviously an extremely technical subject matter, and the results of the experiments were inconclusive and subject to interpretation by different program scientists who had experiments onboard. By including Viking in the book, Jay had no choice but to tackle the monumental task of simplifying this very complex subject. Although (by and large) this has been done well, I still found it hard to follow especially when split across a number of non-sequential chapters.

I recommend that you know the basics of Java before getting this book. I think that an absolute beginner who knows nothing about Java would have some problems following it.

Other than that, I found it very interesting and very well structured guide. AI is an extremely interesting topic lately and it is great to dip your feet into it with Java.

Great introduction to Java

This is a fantastic book to learn Java by. It is clearly and concisely written . The example code is very helpful and showcases some fantastic situations where a specific coding style or syntax is most useful. The author carefully presents the pros and cons of nearly every aspect of the language and provides. Java is and does and how to best use it and what the best practices are etc. Very good.

Everyone On The Planet Needs To Read This Book

Internet security is becoming one of the worldâs most crucial hot sports when it comes to the internet. These days now everyone is online consciously or unconsciously so itâs easy to get caught up in the net of really bad people if you are not careful enough.

Just think about it, hacking and being hacked is on the news almost every day. If big corporations like SONY can be hacked, then you should realise just how important it is to protect yourself. But with James book, you can be rest assured that you are covered.

The book is very detailed and covers just about all that you need to know about keeping yourself safe when on the internet but also you will get a crash cause in computer protection. You get to know how to deal with VPNs and Pop-Ups; those can be really annoying.

Don't buy this "book"

A complete waste of time and money. Very little information and what there is typically is banal, incomplete or simply wrong. This book is nearly unreadable. Either the author is illiterate or English is not his first, second or third language. The text is so garbled that it often makes no sense whatsoever, but that is not really important since the portions that can be read are useless anyway, unless you were previously unaware that passwords should be protected and children are easily fooled online. The book begins by informing the reader that 120 billion people are using the Internet today - a truly remarkable "fact" since there are only 7.4 billion people on earth. Since I foolishly downloaded this tripe online, I suppose that is yet another risk of the internet. This easily qualifies as one of the worst books I have ever seen.

Poorly edited and not helpful

I downloaded this book thinking it would help with some tips for internet security. Unfortunately it was poorly written with clunky sentences, basic spelling mistakes (off instead of of) and incorrect facts (120 billion internet users, really?!). It was in sore need of an editor, but if you can past that it still didn't convey information in a manner that was helpful - using jargon without explaining it or else saying sweeping statements like 'never use public wifi' etc. Not helpful.

Internet is one of the most powerful resource we have in this generation. We could benefit from it but it could also leave us vulnerable. Thus, we need to protect ourselves from hackers. The "HOW" is discussed in this book.

Master of none...But an OK start...

This is an "OK" start for an absolute beginner new to Photoshop. BUT...."master in 1 week"...um...no. This will help you get acquainted with the tool bar, menu's etc. But mostly by name and a very brief explanation of what they can do. This book will also teach/show you short cuts for different tools and menu options. This is an OK start for someone who does not have a clue (me) about Photoshop. I do think it's important to at least know what you're looking at when you open Photoshop and this book will tell you.

A MUST READ FOR AMAZON REVIEWERS!

John Slavio may now have me hooked on his books. I was a psychology major in college and have always loved how people think, and have been drawn to many writers in how they view and explain things. I've always loved learning knew things and the way things work.

I just read John Slavios's other book called Photoshop for Photographers and was drawn into the way he wrote and explained things, in a way that I truly couldn't stop reading until the end because I became not only fascinated by content, but emerged in the writers way with words.

I read John's previous book and this one for one main reason other then realizing I liked his writing style after his first book. I searched out information and came to these books where I found everything that I was looking for.

I love reviewing products that I like or sometimes want to warn others about (not necessarily meaning this book, but in general). For example I bought the Ninja coffee bar last yr and loved it because it was so much better then my old, weak, not strong tasting Kurieg and I "NEEDED" to tell others that were also unhappy with the strength of their Kuriegs about just how great this coffee maker was.

I bought my Ninja on Amazon so I immediately started writing my review on it on Amazon's site, pausing to take additional photos of the carafe and items that came with it as I progressed in my one page review. I submitted it and looked back at my review recently which had been about a year since I wrote it.
