"Many Presbyterians I have met along the way, greet Lent with an uninterested yawn. They feel it’s sort of a liturgical speed bump that we go over to get to Easter. The genius of Lent, however, is that it is a holy reminder to slow down, to reflect, to deepen our spiritual self-awareness, and to draw closer to our Lord. This week is the first Sunday in Lent. The Psalmist says, 'be sure to wash your hands before you come into the sanctuary.' Why? I will let you know this week in worship and it has nothing to do with Purell hand sanitizers."
