  • Ep.42 Alum: Jason Guba

Jason just graduated from UChicago ('23) and Voyage College Church and is now a member of the Acts2 Network. We talk about his experience as a Marine and talk about his journey from agnostic to Christian once he came to the University of Chicago.

  • Ep.41 Alum: Jeff Bi
Jeff is an alum of UChicago (‘21) and Voyage College Church. Jeff and I reconnect on the pod to remember his former frat boy days at UChicago and how some of the toughest years of his life ended up opening him up to spiritual truths.

  • Ep.40 Students: Luke & Neil (co2025)

By popular demand, the student episodes have begun! Luke and Neil asked to be on the pod, and so we found some time right as finals were approaching to have a nice, long conversation about everything from dPod, their faith journeys, how they've grown as friends.

Then we turn it around and they ask me questions--whatever came to their mind (e.g. What were my first impressions of Luke/Neil? What is the past, present, and future of IIT ministry? How has having children affected my own faith journey?)

    Hope you enjoy!

  • Ep.39 Basics: Christian Friendships

This episode marks the 1 year anniversary of dPod. One year ago on 12/2/22, we published our first full-length episode of dPod (DP's Mind: Faith Journey). Since then we've published 1700 minutes of content. Our top episode ever was Ep.16 The Dating Episode (Part 1): The Bro Staff, which for 27% of you was the first episode you listened to. And we've had over 6000 plays just on Spotify in the past year! A year ago, this was totally an experiment for whether we could get asynchronous content to our students here at UChicago/IIT (which is still its core goal) but I know that a lot of others have been listening in, and I hope that it has been and will continue to be a blessing to you!

Now for today's episode, hurriedly released to be released on the day of the dPod 1 year anniversary, is the final installment of Basics--the series that's all about coming back to the basics of Christian living. For this week, I talk with Tofunmi, Biatris, and Hyuna about Christian friendships, or as we talk about it a lot at our church ... "peer" relationships. What's special about it? What's hard about it? How have they helped us to grow?

  • Ep.38 Q&A (Luke 9: Three Would-Be Disciples)
We're back after a hiatus during our fall outreach season. Cata and I answer some questions we collected after our Sunday Gathering yesterday (message was on the Three Would-Be Disciples from Luke 9:57-62)
Here are the Qs we answer:
What's a good plan for third year college students who want to really grow in their faith?
What do I do when I don't feel convicted by a message even though I completely agree and received it with joy? Does it mean I'm hardened? Or is God planning to use it for later?
If the word of God often needs interpretation and explanation, can we take it as an accurate representation of God's word?
Do you have tips for shifting from each of the "would-be-disciples" back to Jesus?
How do you know what you need to do to truly follow? It obviously isn't to quit your job and minister in all circumstances.

  • Ep.37 AGE-onomics

It's a marathon episode! I interviewed AGE (Anezi, Gisselle, and Eden), who were part of the first class of students to go through all four years at our UChicago ministry. And in typical UChicago style, they have a lot to share with us! We talk about how God formed them in college, the unique aspects of UChicago life, and how transitioning from student to working life has been.

Also, you'll hear at the end they do some shoutouts for past UChicago staff. Then after we recorded I received this group text: "WE FORGOT GILBERT YAAAAAAAANG" ... so Gilbert, if you're listening/reading this, you're not forgotten (:

  • Ep.36 Ben and Amy's Reflections on Chicago (LIVE)

This week's episode is a recording of what Ben and Amy shared during our college Sunday Service at Voyage College Church. Yesterday was their last day with us before we sent them off to join the college ministry staff in West Lafayette. We'll miss them a lot in Chicago!

  • Ep.35 Peers: Mike Chen
Another conversation with one of my college friends: Mike Chen. Mike is ministering to the youth in the Twin Cities. As we talk through his spiritual journey, we also touch on the topics of gaming and his time as an artist for Dreamworks, and how learning to let go of these things were hugely formative decisions in his spiritual journey.
Here's a photo of me and Mike with a bunch of college students at our Purdue-Chicagoland-Minnesota Winter Retreat this past year!
And if you're wondering, I think that noise at the beginning is Mike exhaling cause he's nervous HAHA!

  • Ep.34 Peers: Mike Park

In this week's "Peers" episode, we have Mike Park, whom I've known for 16 years (crazy). We talk about a variety of topics: his exit from a certain tech company which now has a one-letter name, parenthood, soccer, dancing, his brief pioneering foray into podcasting, and of course, his spiritual story as well. Hope you enjoy!

    Show Notes:

    - Couple of photos of me and Mike (one from sophomore year and one from 2021 with Steve)

    - Korean Podcast that Mike started in 2020

  • Ep.33 BTS: Percy & Elaine Chen

Percy and Elaine Chen moved from Berkeley to join us in Chicago this past summer. So we brought back BTS! We talk about their faith journey and their experiences of living in ministry homes of 20+ people.

In BTS (Behind the Staff) episodes, we interview different staff mentors to hear their faith journeys, and the stories that make them who they are today. Have suggestions for future episodes? Or have a question you want answered? Ask at bit.ly/dpod-ama

About dPod

From the publisher's feed

Storytelling is our obligation to the next generation. Conversations transmit culture, values, and ethos. In each episode, DP, the campus pastor of Voyage College Church in Chicago, interviews people in his relational circles, to discover, cherish, and pass down essential stories of how we've chosen to live out Christian life in our day and age.
