On this episode of “Sanity” Dr. Jason Duncan and Dr. Adam Weissman discuss the current gap between quality mental health care and disseminating it to people who most need the services. Dr. Weissman described how insurance companies have increased this gap, through low reimbursement rates, and how they can do a better job to ensure everyone has access to quality mental health treatment. The Weissman Children’s foundation aims to address systemic issues created by this gap. They have goals to partner with mental health professionals in various communities to provide cost-effective services to families in need. Their ultimate goal is to research efficacious psychological treatments on underserved populations to ensure treatments are effective for real-world clients. Dr. Weissman emphasized the importance of focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the creation of the foundation and the goal of its services. Tune in to learn more about current issues in the availability of mental health services and how the Weissman Children’s Foundation attempts to bridge the gap!
