Several days ago I reported that the Moderna Omicron Booster slated to be approved by the FDA and then the CDC for distributed was their bivalent mRNA 1273.214 vaccine. This vaccine contains mRNA that would encode for the original CoVid strain and the Omicron B.1 subvariant.  This vaccine had been tested in a human clinical trail.  It turns out that just before the FDA panel was considering their application, Moderna submitted another EUA application for a bivalent vaccine that contained mRNA to encode for spike proteins from the Omicron BA.4./BA.5 subvariants.  This was the one that was approved.

So it turns out that both the Moderna and the Pfizer Omicron Boosters approved by the FDA and CDC both contain mRNAs that encode for both the original CoVid and the Omicron subvariants BA.4/BA.5.  If it is time for your booster, which is the case for most of us, take your choice!

Over the past 15 years, Medicare Advantage membership has increased 2.5 fold.  Now, 48% of Medicare is delivered through the HMO-like Advantage programs vs. traditional fee-for-service Medicare.  The shift from Classic to Advantage Medicare has been escalating in the past 2 years with 8-10% of subscribers shifting per year.

The vast majority of members receive their care through just 2 Advantage programs.  United HealthCare has 28% of Advantage enrollees while Humana services 18%.  After these two, Blue Cross/Blue Shield has 14%, CVS Health 11%, Kaiser 6%, and 23% are spread among other insurers.  All but 1% of these plans require the hated prior authorizations for most except preventive services.
