Dragon Age Lorecast

In this episode, Austin and Shelby continue the Countries of Thedas series by taking a deep dive into the smaller countries of Antiva and Rivain.

Have you ever wondered how the Antivan Crows got their start? Or maybe how Antiva even came to have a group of assassins so renowned? Do you have questions about Rivain in its entirety?

We attempt to answer these questions and more. Along the way we explore history, culture, and religion of both Antiva and Rivain.

In this week’s episode, Austin and Shelby, along with Fyrewriter discuss Ferelden history, politics, and culture. As the first country we are ever introduced to in the series, we have the most in-game knowledge about Ferelden. But how did Ferelden come into existence? How did it survive the Orlesian occupation? Did it emerge from lots of different warring tribes, like Tevinter and Orlais? Or is Ferelden unique? We answer all of these questions and more in this episode.

In today’s episode, Austin and Shelby unpack and discuss the history of the Orlesian Empire. They discuss the founding, unification, and ancient history, as well as modern history.

From the early days of Dragon Age: Origins, we hear about those pesky Orlesians, and how much the Fereldans hate Orlais. But how much does this conflict between the countries impact Orlais? And what is Orlesian culture really like? And for the love of the Maker, what is with the Game and all of these masks? We’ll answer all of these questions and more.

In this week’s episode, we’re looking at the oldest human nation in Thedas--Tevinter. Throughout all three games, the infamous country of Tevinter and its citizens are often looked at with skepticism, fear, and are even made out to be the boogeyman.

But what is Tevinter really like? Are they really as evil as the Chantry says? And how did they even become such a powerful empire? We’ll explore these questions and more in this week’s episode.

In this week's episode, Austin and Shelby take a deeper look at the Old Gods, the rise and fall of the worship of the Old Gods, and how they are connected to the Blight and the darkspawn.

Questions about this topic abound: Can we trust what the Chantry says about the creation of the Blight and darkspawn? On the other hand, can we trust Tevinter's view of the Old Gods? And can we even trust what Corypheus and the Architect have to say about these topics?

We (attempt) to answer these questions and more. Join us as we begin to discuss the Old Gods, the Blight, and the darkspawn.

In this week's episode, Shelby and Austin dig into the history of Thedas' pointy ear residents.--perhaps the first residents on the continent.

Throughout all three Dragon Age games, we uncover more and more history from the elven past. We even get to spend time in the Dales--the second elven homeland--in Dragon Age Inquisition. But what is the full history of the elven people? How did they go from one, united, virtually immortal people to the fractured, vastly different groups of city elves and Dalish that exist today?

We'll take a deep dive into these questions and more as we discuss elven history. We cover the rise and fall of Arlathan to the elves in the Dales to modern elves.

In today's episode, Austin and Shelby unpack the religious beliefs of the elves of Thedas.

Throughout all three Dragon Age games, we see, hear, and experience a variety of religious beliefs from the elves of Thedas. Some elves are Andrastian. Others, such as the Dalish, honor one specific Elven god above all the others. But what did the ancient elves believe in?

We'll take a deep dive on both ancient and modern Elven beliefs. We'll look at the ancient Elven pantheon, also called the Evanuris, including gods you're probably pretty familiar with like Mythal and Fen'Harel. We'll also get into some elven gods you've probably never heard of, like Elgar'nan, June, and Andruil.

In Dragon Age: Origins, we are thrown into the world of Thedas and introduced to the Chantry and the Maker. Most of the humans throughout Thedas worship the Maker and participate in the Chantry, even marginally. Most of Thedas's nations proclaim official allegiance to the religion as well.

But who IS the Maker? What did He do exactly? Why did He create humans? Did He create other races too? Or did Andraste just make him up? We unpack these questions and more in this episode.

We also talk about a multitude of fan theories about the Maker and discover who Divine Justinia I is and was.
