Drama is Toxic

Listen Later

The “Drama Triangle” is a model created by Dr. Stephen Karpman used to describe the ROLES we unconsciously play in our relationships. We may PLAY THE PART of a:

VICTIM
RESCUER
PERSECUTOR

“Victims depend on a savior (rescuer), rescuers yearn for a basket case, and persecutors need a scapegoat… each role in the drama triangle has its own payoffs. Victims get to be taken care of. Rescuers get to feel good by caretaking. Persecutors get to remain feeling superior… but the cost is… to miss out on… healthy, resonant, resilient relationships… “
