Santa's not the only one with a naughty list this week, as Dread Media pays tribute to the burgeoning genre career of Ben Wheatley! First up, Desmond and Duane take on the paramilitary / pagan mash-up Kill List. Devil Dinosaur Jr. jumps in with the first of two Stay Scaries with a review of A Field in England. Adam and Luke join Desmond for a review of 5 Souls, a film that has nothing to do with Ben Wheatley but also contains a list of people to kill. Devil Dinosaur Jr. returns to discuss Sightseers. There's also tons of tunes this week: "Shitlist" by L7, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC, "Chernobyl" by Blank Mass, "Leave My Soul Alone" by Mercyful Fate, "The Power of Love" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and "Ritual" by Ghost. The War on Christmas is bloody and mindless this year as Dread Media celebrates its sixth ghoultide! First up, Adam, Desmond, and Jeff try to make sense of 1980's Christmas Evil (aka You Better Watch Out). Then, perhaps a little stressed over not being able to stomach a complete run through last year, Devil Dinosaur Jr. opens two horrible presents: Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation and Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker. And of course, Dread Media always delivers on the finest Christmas Carols: "Reggae Christmas Eve in Transylvania" by Count Floyd (aka Joe Flaherty), "Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Holiday Cheer" by Agoraphobic Nosebleed, "Heavy Metal Christmas" by Twisted Sister, "Silent Night" by Christopher Lee, and, of course, "Silent Night, Deadly Night (acoustic)" by The Browns. By Crom! This week we pay homage to some of the creations of legendary pulp writer Robert E. Howard. First up, Darryll and Desmond discuss the Puritan-turned-reluctant-avenger: Solomon Kane. Then Devil Dinosaur Jr. steps in to present a review of the similarly themed, but non-Howard property Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. Desmond returns with a solo review of 2011's Conan the Barbarian! There's some barbarically violent heavy metal to go along with this menu of massacres as well: "Stone Loner" by Owl, "Puritan Ossuary" by Vit, "White Witch" by Savatage, "Zamora" by Crom, and "The Frost Giant's Daughter" by The Sword. Warning: The podcast you are about to listen to contains scenes of a sexual nature, extreme violence, Satanism, and Tom Hanks crying in a phone booth. This week, we take a look at bad influences in media. Films, video games, comic books, and rock music have all been blamed for society's ills. On this episode we're examining some of those. Desmond and Darryll team-up on a film that explores the bad influence a sinister song can have on the women of the world: The Lords of Salem. In a brand new Stay Scary, Devil Dinosaur Jr. reviews the animated adaptation of a comic book that was partially blamed for the Aurora theatre shooting, and is often blamed for the darkness of comics in the 1980s and 90s: The Dark Knight Returns. Then, in a wild condemnation of role-playing games, Tom Hanks, in his first starring role, overacts his way to Damien and Desmond's hearts as they review Mazes and Monsters. The songs this week run from those inspired by the subject to soundtrack items, protest songs, and even those deemed obscene to the PMRC: "The Lords Theme" by John 5 and Griffin Boice, "Crushing the Ritual" by Leviathan the Fleeing Serpent (AKA Rob Zombie and John 5), "The Darkest One" by The Tragically Hip, "Startin' Up a Posse" by Anthrax, and "Into the Coven" by Mercyful Fate.
