  • Episode 333: Are you Hyper Independent?
I define the term hyper independent.
    Intro and outro @nikkos ramone
Recorded and edited @mzoundz. I don't think being independent is a bad thing, but what about when you're too independent? How do you know if you're too independent or hyper independent? I read an article that talked about some of these signs and I would like to discuss them today. Thank you for tuning in to Drea's point of view, I will be your hostess for the next few minutes. If you're on Twitter, you can follow me @Dreapoint and @Drea's point of view on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Clubhouse. There are some signs that will tell you if one is hyper independent, and the first one is that you don't like needy people. If someone is always contacting you and asking you for something like your time you run, the second sign is that you're used to doing things alone. You go shopping alone, take trips alone, and you don't have to consult with anyone or check in. You may go when invited, but you're not the one doing the inviting.
The next sign is that long-term relationships are not your thing. You don't feel comfortable opening up to many, and you tend to keep people at a distance. You don't chase after anyone who leaves, and you've been told that you don't make anyone feel needed. The next sign is a big one for many. You have a hard time asking for help. Being prideful isn't the issue. It's more of not wanting to bother anyone. If you're a private person, that's a sign that you're hyper independent. Not telling everyone everything versus being closed off and mysterious are two different things. You're not one to delegate because you don't trust others to do things, so you may take care of the big jobs, but give someone else something that's not as important. You throw yourselves into your work so you stay busy or overly busy. Your career is a main focus, so you don't have a personal life.
You stay busy, so you have an excuse not to spend time with friends and family and have an excuse to cancel plans. And lastly, you make all the decisions. You don't ask for anyone's opinion on things, and don't consider anyone else's opinion important. I'll admit I do possess some of these qualities. How many do you possess, if any? Please don't forget to subscribe to my show so you don't miss any of the multiple episodes I have for you weekly. And don't forget to check out my YouTube channel Drea's point of view. I thank you for taking the time to listen to me. I realize that you don't have to, and your time is valuable. • Episode 332: Places to Travel in 2023
    Intro and outro @nikkos ramone
Edited and recorded @mzoundz. Recently, I read an article in Conness Traveler magazine that gave a list of the places to travel This year. Since the airports are more packed than they were pre Covid, I thought I'd dedicate this episode to some of the top places to travel. I'm Drea, the hostess of Drea's point of view, and I would like to welcome you to my show. Drea's point of view is on Facebook, IG Clubhouse and Pinterest. You can also find me on Twitter @Dreapoint. The first place on the list is Auckland New Zealand. It is known for keeping covid under control. They have non-stop flights from six cities in February. They'll be celebrating the Chinese New Year with the Lantern festival. In March They'll have Pacifica, the largest Pacific Island festival in the world. Next on the list known for island getaways and safari lodges is Kenya.
In Nairobi, they opened some new hotel concepts. The Social House of Nairobi opened pre pandemic and has 83 rooms of local products. On my list is Morocco known for desert stays and design exhibits. Marrakesh known to attract designers. There's also the Museum of African Contemporary Art. Memphis, Tennessee is on that list and I can agree to that. It has a lot of museums, good food and blues. There's a lot more than just Beale Street, so if you ever go, don't just go to Beale Street and Graceland. If you go in May, you can enjoy the world champion barbecue contest as Memphis in May, which is a long month long celebration. They have a lot of unique hotels opening there, including the Memphian and if I'm not mistaken, they have the Peabody Hotel at the top of it. They have these ducks that actually they're trained. They line up in a circle. It's very cute to see. So definitely add Memphis to your list. Nepal is on the list. For those of you interested in mountain retreats. tea houses and a culinary experience is what attracts people to Taiwan. One area can not pronounce this, Ximending was just named one of the 51 coolest neighborhoods in the world. There's also a high speed rail in Thailand, one of the oldest cities.
Japan is now open and welcoming people visa free. Those who have been Vaxxed don't need a covid test, but those who are un vaxxed need a negative test. Tokyo and Kyoto are the best places to see. I went once about seven years ago and was surprised at how reasonable prices were. They don't take tips either. I found that out when I tried to tip my server. She actually followed me out the door, ran after me and gave it back to me. It's a civilized society too, so it was definitely worth the visit for that alone. Bangkok is on this list for their culinary scene, their Virginia Blue Ridge mountains home to the Blue Ridge Parkway, also known as America's Favorite Drive. If you're big on adventure, hiking, horseback, archery, or even golf, then this is a place for you. Turks and Caicos is known for cruise upgrades and sleek resorts. White sands and blue waters is what attracts visitors there. More properties are planning to come this year, including the 31 acre South Bank, Turks and Caicos and the Strand Turks and Caicos, which is 20 minutes south of Grace Bay.
Zamora, Spain is on the list and it has the most Romanesque architecture in Europe. It's also known for its lakes. Toro is their wine region. There is much more on the list. So where are you planning to visit? One of my cities to visit this year is Rio. My quote of the day comes from James Miser and it says, if you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people you might better stay home. Before I go, I wanna remind you to turn your notifications on so that you're one of the first to know of my new episodes. I am not trying to change your point of view. All I ask is that you listen to Drea's point of view. Thank you for listening.

  • Episode 330: Digital Nomad Jobs for 2023
In this episode I list some digital nomad jobs and where to find them.
    Intro and outro @nikkos_ramone
Recorded and edited @mzoundz. There are over 2 million podcasts, but how many of those can massage the mind, elevate the senses, take you to another plateau. Allow me to introduce you to Drea’s point of view, the 10 minute or less podcast that brings you observations and experiences from her perspective. It seems like everyone wants to not only travel, but work remotely. So what if I told you it's easier than you think to do? Both? Being a digital nomad is on the rise, and I would love to give you a list of some of those jobs for 2023. Allow me to welcome you to Drea's point of view. I am your hostess, Drea. You can follow the show at Drea Point on Twitter and at Drea’s point of view on Instagram, clubhouse, Facebook and Pinterest. You can be a social media manager. They are responsible for managing a company's social media. You engage with followers and create content. Almost everyone is looking for that. They wear many hats, but no two days are the same. For you Web developers, being a digital nomad is for you. You're responsible for creating websites and developing databases. This job can definitely work from anywhere in the world.
A graphic designer is one of the most in demand. These are skilled professionals responsible for layouts, logos, and making sure the client's needs are met. They also work independently, so this may be something that will work for you. You can work from anywhere If you're a copywriter, it's a creative job where you make brochures and other marketing materials. You can be an affiliate marketing manager. You would recruit affiliates and track the sales data. You will manage and develop marketing programs. Virtual assistants are very popular. I see those advertised a lot on the socials. They give support from any location. They book travel plan a schedule, handle emails and more. They have to be organized and have good communication skills. There is also the content creator. This entails writing, photography or even being a podcaster. You need strong writing skills or an eye for design.
There are three types of digital nomads. The first type is being fully remote. You still have an employer, but you work from home instead of an office. The second is a freelancer where you can charge by the hour. You're fully independent and choose your own hours. Then there's the online entrepreneur. They take risks financially to get their business going. They depend on employees or freelancers, so you're probably wondering where can you sign up for these jobs? There are plenty of places to find digital nomad jobs. Some of these sites are remote.co remotetive.co. weworkremotely.com and workingnomads.com. Good luck to those of you who are interested. My goal isn't to change your point of view, but to see things from Drea's point of view. • Episode 327: New Laws for 2023
This episode talks about the new laws going into effect this year in different ststes.
    Intro and outro @nikkosramone
Recorded and edited @mzoundz. Subscribe to the show & leave a review. Every year, I like to know about the upcoming changes in my state for the new year. I think it's important to know what's changing. Plus it makes for a good conversation as well. So I chose a few states that apply to me and I thought I would start with New York. Welcome to Drea's point of view. I am your hostess, Drea Thank you for tuning in. I would love it if you would support the show on Twitter @Dreapoint and @Drea’spointofview on Pinterest clubhouse, Facebook and ig. In the state of New York for 2023, airports will have to provide lactation stations for women. Employers have to have private places for women to breastfeed at work. I think that is amazing. That should be everywhere I think. Nursing homes have to notify residents and families if there is an infection in that place.
There are a number of domestic violence laws on the docket for this year. One of those laws includes sexual assault. Survivors will be able to apply to the state to keep their voter registration from the public. You can take firearms from people who have a protective order against them. The judge will decide if that owner is a danger. That's huge. Those who are convicted of hate crimes need to go to counseling In hate crime prevention, It had to be authorized by a court or other local agencies. Another law of interest was New York will be the first state in the nation to reimburse organ donors for liver and kidney donations. Expenses that aren't reimbursed by health insurance will be covered under a new state program. In Georgia Most of the new laws take place on July 1st. Under the Senate Bill 226, schools have to start taking complaints about books and websites that parents think are harmful to minors. That should be interesting. Principals have up to seven days to decide whether to ban materials. Unhappy parents can appeal to the local board, which is supposed to decide within a month to give them a right to address the board. Health insurance companies have to report how they provide mental health coverage for kids and adults to the State Insurance Department. Grants to help with court ordered mental health treatment started January 1st. Food trucks can operate with a health permit from their home County's health department instead of in multiple counties. They still have to submit their health permit where they plan to operate.

  • Episode 326: The Art of Communication
This episode is based on an article in Psychology Today about communicstion.
    Intro and outro @nikkos ramone
Recorded and edited @mzoundz. Subscribe to the show & leave a review. Communication is an art. I read an article that talks about verbal and nonverbal communication. Sometimes it's not just what you say but is what you don't say That is just as important. Welcome to Drea's point of view. I am your hostess, Drea, and I would like to extend an invitation for you to follow the show. @Drea'spointofview on Pinterest, clubhouse, IG, and Facebook. If you're a Twitter person and you can find me there @Dreapoint, verbally expanding your vocabulary draws people in. Sometimes it does because I met a guy once who sounded like he was speaking another language, and people tend to judge you based on your vocabulary, like your level of education. Most people use that with more educated groups. Shucking your tone, making sure you don't sound monotone, helps people follow along. For sure. Watching your pace helps. If you're a fast talker, people will lose interest and I'll definitely lose interest if you're talking too slow.
People judge you by your words. Words have power. Using slang or slurs is something to avoid depending on your audience. Showing emotion is a way to communicate If you're angry, it shows how serious you are and if you're crying, it can show how passionate you are about something. If you're laughing, it can show your fun side. There are non-verbal ways to communicate as well. Talking with your hands is very effective. Recording yourself speaking is a way to see what your hands are doing. Your eyes speak volumes as well. There is nothing like talking to someone who isn't even looking at you. It shows disinterest, not to mention rudeness, so make sure you make eye contact with someone and let them know that they are important. Using your arms or not using your arms is a non-verbal way. You are closed off when your arms are crossed. Some people do this without even realizing. Some people have a knack to own the room and are not only a good talker, but a great listener as well. Being a great listener is crucial. People are more open to listen if they believe people are listening to them. Give people something they can take away from the conversation. This really matters when you have to correct someone.
When you're in a group, keep your answer simple. I've learned that no one likes a long answer because they lose interest. I know I do. Keep it short and sweet. Getting right to the meat of it. You'll be remembered more for that. Don't be the person that needs to answer everything. I hate this type of person. Only chime in when you have something important to say, or better yet when you're spoken, to prepare what you have to say ahead of time. Most of us hate public speaking, so sorting out what you have to say. Using bullet points or an index card are very helpful, makes you look less unprepared and saves a little embarrassment. And lastly, smile. That helps brighten up any conversation and people are more apt to talk to you.
The quote of the day comes from Buddha. "Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people who will hear them and be influenced by them for good or Ill." • Episode 325: Review of Libby app
I review the libby app in this episode.
    Intro and outro @nikkos Ramone
Recorded and edited @mzoundz. When was the last time you were in a bookstore or stepped foot into a library or got drawn into the latest thing to read at the airport? Unless you just have to have the paperback version, there's a way to read or listen to the latest publication for free. Welcome Drea's point of view. I am your hostess Drea and would like to not only thank you for giving me a few minutes of your time, but extend an invitation to follow the show @Drea'spointofview on all socials except Twitter. On Twitter, you can find me @Dreapoint. I came across this app that lets you download books as well as audio books. All you need to do is enter your library card information and it gives you listings of books that you can download and get a sample of. You can put a hold on some books and be notified once it's on your virtual shelf.
I wanna say you can keep the book for about two weeks or so. Read at your leisure and save tons of money. And that app is the Libby app, Libby. Of course, if you have a library card, you can just go in a place-- go into the library and take the book out. But then you run into fees. If it's late, go into the actual library instead of having the inconvenience of doing everything on your phone like we do anyway, it won't let you be late. Returning it will send you a reminder when it's due and it'll just go back into the system. It's not a bad deal. For those of you avid book readers, so check out that Libby app the next time you hear about someone who has a book out and so many people have books out now, so check it out. I would love for you to subscribe to my show so that you are not missing any of these episodes that I have for you. I am not trying to change your point of view.
