    Scream Queen

It seems perfectly appropriate at this time of year that this week’s guest on Drewling Samantics should hail from the world of horror and suspense, but don’t worry - there’s nothing really scary about the latest brilliant visitor to our favourite entertainment podcast!

Meet Meghan Adara, a fabulous actor who just happens to revel in and succeed in the darker, more gruesome and disturbing elements of film and story-telling. Watching her movies, you’re most likely to see her as victim or villain covered in blood and gore, screaming her lungs out, but, as she explains to Drew and Sam, despite this she’ll always be enjoying herself tremendously!

A petite, attractive and charming actor, Meghan is slowly carving out a niche for herself in the Horror film genre, and she also chats to our dynamic duo about her love for exploring the darker side of human nature, and particularly the demanding and challenging of filming extreme emotions and story-lines. Her passion and talent have now led her into writing, directing and producing, and recently setting up her own company Big Evil Grin Productions with several ideas and projects on the slate.

So, despite its near-Halloween release, this episode is not all darkness, as is always the case on Drewling Samantics there is plenty of fascinating chat, and lots to laugh about too, so join Drew and Sam now as they introduce us to a brilliant first Season Seventeen guest!

A few weeks break is all Drew and Sam have needed to return refreshed and ready to go, and our podcasting presenters, both with beer in hand, welcome all fans, followers and folk fresh to the podcast, for the first episode of the season, which funnily enough is about keeping things going (in some case longer than expected!)

  • Season Sixteen: Best of Drew & Sam

Season Sixteen – Best of Drew & Sam

Here it is, the episode filled with Drew and Sam’s personal best moments of chat and banter, discussion and debate, teasing and talking, from Season Sixteen of Drewling Samantics! And it is clear they are justifiably proud to have reached this milestone, as well as being delighted to have received a rather exciting and impressive accolade (check out the clips in this episode and the full first show of the season to find out more!) Not bad at all chaps, not bad at all!

So, as we have come to expect, our podcasting pair have touched on a remarkably wide range of topics over the past two and a half months, some directly concerning their working lives and their journey through the industry, and others showing wider effects on the business and the people making it what it is. But, if that sounds too serious, there’s also been a huge amount of the traditional Drewling Samantics laughter we all very much enjoy, as the boys have attempted (how successfully only you can decide!) to deal with - among other things - long recording days, ridiculous heat-waves, touring and working away from home, and even coping with the ups and downs of the Football World Cup alongside everything else! They are as resilient as ever it seems, and perhaps nothing will stop them bringing lots more fabulous content in the shape of Season Seventeen, we certainly hope not. So while we wait for that to be confirmed, we have the perfect opportunity to enjoy these clips and highlights.

It’s time to relive the best bits of Season Sixteen while Drew and Sam get ready for a whole new collection of episodes - who knows what they have planned?!

  • Season Sixteen - Best of Guests

Season Sixteen – Best of Guests

It’s always disappointing when a season of Drewling Samantics approaches its end, but that inevitable climax does always bring with it a large dose of fun! As is tradition on the show, in this, the fourteenth release of the current season, Drew and Sam get to look back over all the wonderful visitors that have been kind enough to spare time and join them for a chat, and in turn select some of their favourite highlights to share with us all to enjoy.

Ian Archdeacon, Paul Andrew Goldsmith, Alastair J Braidwood, Sam Webber, Maria Beadell, Rob Howgate and Stephen Roach all brought fun and facts to the pod’, in the shape of stories including but certainly not limited to: dinosaurs, trains, music, sheep shearing, the streets of London and savage rats! An extremely eclectic mix of subjects and skills - exactly the sort of variety we have come to expect from Drewling Samantics guests!

This “best of” show is always the perfect opportunity for any new viewers or listeners to get a taste of the brilliant content Drew and Sam (and their guests) bring to every episode of Drewling Samantics, but it’s equally as enjoyable for those who have been long-time subscribers. • S16E13 - Letter by Letter

    Letter by Letter

The Drewling Samantics chaps never shy away from a challenge, and this week Sam has come up with a little alphabetical task for the boys to attempt to complete, that requires them to take a journey through the industry letter by letter…

Yes, from A through to Z, our podcasting pair attempt to assign industry related things to each letter of the alphabet, something that may initially sound easy, but (as will become apparent during this episode!) perhaps a fair bit more difficult than first assumed! And, beyond being a fun and sometimes tricky little activity, the boys discover that this game, and in turn the answers and ideas they come up with for each letter, not only reveal interesting topics and fuel entertaining discussions - many of which have been broached on previous episodes - but also give an insight into how their minds work, and what occupies their thoughts regarding the business.

An extremely fun, enlightening and intriguing way to end the season, before plunging into the “Best of” episodes that will finally round off Season Sixteen in true Drewling Samantics style. Those are always worth a watch, so ‘play along’ with this one, then look forward to giving those a play too!

  • S16E12 - Horror-flic CollaboRATion

    Horror-flic CollaboRATion

Drewling Samantics is fast approaching towards the end of its sixteenth season, and Drew and Sam bring us their final guest episode today, but it is no normal episode, as they have some very special visitors - yes that’s right - visitors, plural!

Rob Howgate and Stephen Roach are (among other things!) the writer/producer and director/editor of soon to be released horror film “Rise of the Rats”, that just so happens to feature a rather familiar Drewling Samantics face! As devoted fans of film and horror, Rob and Stephen have produced this brilliant ‘creature feature’, bursting with great music, special effects and make-up, evocative locations and stunning performances. But, as well as the love and enthusiasm needed, Rob and Stephen also talk about the hard work of pre-production, casting, writing, location hunting and careful budgeting that has to be dealt with before any one gets to shout “Action!”

Both gents had different careers before becoming full time filmmakers, and they explain how these have helped along the way, giving them experiences and teaching them skills they have now adapted and use to help flex their creative muscles. While independent film making is extremely exciting, it is also certainly not for the faint hearted (a little bit like Rise of the Rats!) but, as Drew can testify, it tend to be a lot of fun too, especially with two talented and fun guys like Rob and Stephen leading the way. So join these four lads now for a brilliant last guest episode of this Drewling Samantics season, and find out a whole lot more about making terrifying (but great!) films!

  • S16E11 - Two for the Price of One

Two for the Price of One

There are some things in life that just work better when combined, and are rarely seen apart; fish and chips, your mouse and keyboard, holidays and sunshine (if you’re lucky anyway!) Then there are those famous duos that are so brilliant and familiar you simply can’t imagine them not being together - Woody and Buzz Lightyear, Delboy and Rodney, Wallace and Gromit, Punch and Judy - the list is seemingly endless. But, beyond characters in films and TV, what are some other working partnerships in the world of entertainment that we have all been fortunate enough to enjoy? Well this week your two regulars are here as usual, chatting and bantering on exactly that subject!

Yes, our beloved podcasting pair Drew and Sam became friends initially through immersive theatre work, and then (almost ironically!) were brought closer together during the period of the “Unwelcome Guest”, and as a result both this podcast, and their undeniably successful partnership, have flourished, and they continue to be the powerhouse duo we know them as today. So presenting pairings are one area that the industry has seen some excellent examples of, but there are many, many duos in music, film, TV, writing, directing, performing and more, who were brought together by their shared abilities or the complementary nature of their skills when combined, and have continued to thrive ever since. Beyond the great comedy double-acts past and present, there are director and actor partnerships, lyricists and composers, dancers and their partners - in fact when you look into it there are even some less obvious combos that have achieved far more together than they perhaps would have done as individuals.

But what makes these twosomes work? How do they find each other? And what do they have to do to ensure they secure a permanent place in the hearts and minds of fans and viewers? Join the Drewling Samantics chaps today to hear more about their views on this thought-provoking subject, and see if your all-time favourite duo (excluding Drew and Sam of course!) get a mention!

  • S16E10 - Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk

Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk

Stepping it up this week with another superb guest, the Drewling Samantics chaps welcome fabulous performer and creative Maria Beadell to the show, to talk about taking to the streets of London! And, while that may sound a little strange, it is actually a pretty accurate description!

Maria has been on an interesting and varied journey to reach her unique sphere of performance. Beginning life as a teacher, travelling to exotic countries, working with improv. companies, and not forgetting the many interactive shows she’s performed alongside both Drew and Sam, now she walks the streets of London, treating tourists, enthusiasts and other members of the public to a historical experience like no other! Maria guides her audiences through the county’s capital, on a tour around some of the most famous (and infamous!) areas of the city. The characters she portrays all have individual stories to tell, either of the locale or about themselves, using the background of London’s streets as the stage. Centred around a perfect blend of well-known women and characters she has created to aid the narrative, Maria tells the tales of London’s most significant and prominent women of the past and present.

Her sense of humour, acting skill and detailed research have made her tours highly successful and increasingly popular, and although, as Maria explains, things don’t always run smoothly (there are many challenging variables to deal with when working in close contact with people and the elements!) the future is certainly bright for this lovely lady and her entertaining experiences. So check out what Maria has to say to the boys, but don’t be surprised when you’re rushing to book one of her tours afterwards!

  • S16E09 - Iconic

    Iconic

Some people are remembered for the societal contributions they make - ground-breaking discoveries, sporting achievements, scientific breakthroughs, great works of art, revolutionary inventions, important political actions. Many famous figures remain in the limelight seemingly forever, then there those individuals who enjoy a short ‘fifteen minutes of fame’ and fade from memory. Being remembered or even legendary though, comes about in various ways - some pursue notoriety, others become memorable by accident.

The entertainment industry has its own share of folk who have attained unforgettable status - with a portion being revered for their versatility shown in portraying characters of all different kinds, and others giving iconic and unforgettable performances that live with them forever. In this episode of Drewling Samantics, Drew and Sam focus on the latter, and discuss some actors and, more specifically, the roles for which they will always be remembered. There are some films that have defined the careers of their leading actors, BUT, is that definition actually opinion based? Can it entirely depend on the characteristics of the audience member? For example, does your age, or maybe your taste in genres, influence what you would say is a movie-star’s finest performance, or the character that they are, and potentially will be, primarily associated with? Or are there some actors who will never escape their foremost role - whether they want to or not!

Our podcasting pair take on another entertaining (and possibly dividing!) subject today, so tune in now as they deliberate, discuss and debate the significant roles undertaken by a selection of actors, that will (for many people) forever remain in the memory. Why not play along and see if you agree or have ideas of your own, the boys would no doubt welcome listener and viewer contributions. But don’t take it too seriously, it’s all a bit of fun - especially for Drew and Sam as they patiently wait for Drewling Samantics to reach “iconic” status…

    Organically Minded

Isn’t it refreshing to sometimes to step back from the hectic pace of the world, and appreciate the gentler, simpler and more honest skills and pleasures of life and art? Well this week Drew and Sam have a guest who epitomises just that!

Alastair J Braidwood is the latest fantastic visitor dropping in to Drewling Samantics, and he is a gentleman of wide and varied skills and experience. He primarily plies his trade as a performer and musician, but those are just two of his eclectic range of attributes. With a love of historic pastoral music, and skills developed to reflect this, he writes and produces music and productions that embrace all the worlds he is most passionate about - keeping traditional music alive, and taking it to new audiences whilst playing an amazing array of instruments to boot!

Alistair has played a range of characters from Captain Hook to Santa Claus, and relishes the joy these recognisable and much-loved roles bring to those who experience him performing as them. And his understated talent and appreciation of the past allows him to formulate, actualise and embody new characters, as well as reimagining already established figures. All this together makes him an undoubtedly unique and entertaining guest, who brings some fascinating facts and a ready wit to everybody’s favourite podcast - it’s not to be missed!

About Drewling Samantics

From the publisher's feed

Drew and Sam are actors. They haven’t won any Academy Awards yet, and neither of them is in line to be the new James Bond (sorry Sam), but between them they do have over half a century’s worth of…
