Hey KC drinkers, we're back in action with our post-July 4th episode and talking about the legendary J. Rieger & Co. Distillery in Kansas City, Missouri! Their Kansas City Whiskey, which harkens back to the old days of "rectification," is perfect for the "quintessential Kansas City cocktail," and the distillery itself has enough history to make you fall in love with KC all over again. Tune in to find out more about why J. Rieger & Co is a must-see (and taste!) spot.
How do you handle launching a brewery in the middle of a pandemic? By being nimble! Nanobrewery Nimble Brewing is serving up a shifting menu of awesome beers each week in their cool Crossroads space. And with a fully stocked bar of spirits (including local!), there's something even your non-beer friends will like (if you're even friends with such people).
Did you know Missouri grapes basically saved the French wine industry? That's just one of the cool things we learned when we visited Stonehaus Farms Winery, a family-owned winery and vineyard in Lee's Summit, MO. We got to try their Apple Cranberry, Vignoles, and the Cynthiana, a dry red that we immediately knew we needed a bottle of to take home.
Today we're lifting our spirits with a trip to Lifted Spirits Distillery in the Crossroads Arts District. We'll dive into their unique spirit offerings - which include a 100% wheat whiskey, a vapor-distilled gin, and KC's first local-made absinthe - as well as the incredible history of absinthe's rise to fame in 19th century Paris. Tune in to hear all about it!
We’re taking Drink KC out to Blue Springs, MO today with a visit to East Forty Brewing, a brewery and taproom with a heart of gold, a commitment to staying local, and the best dang Reuben quesadilla you’ll find outside of Ireland OR Mexico (or anywhere in between). We reminisce on our belated St. Paddy’s Day celebration there – or what we can remember of it, at least – and taste their Jackson County Common Lager.
And great news! Drink KC is now available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and all your favorite podcast streaming platforms.
So tune in, share, like, subscribe, the whole enchilada… because it’s always more fun to Drink KC when we do it together!
Today we're finishing out our "West Bottoms Round" with a trip to Amigoni Winery! We met with their winemaker, Michael Amigoni, learned about their commitment to using Vitis Vinifera grapes, tried a wine that might make a wino out of Cory (gasp), and met their duck. (That's right, a duck.) Tune in to hear all about it!
Also, In this episode we talk a bit about some awesome artwork from Ryan Radecki, a local Kansas City artist. Be sure to check him out on Etsy!
It's time for the second episode of Drink KC's "West Bottoms Round," this time featuring the brand new distillery, West Bottoms Whiskey Co. Tune in to hear about their use of a special pre-Prohibition process called "rectification," about their cocktails (which have some great names), and what we think of their flagship spirit, Kansas City Whiskey.
This week on Drink KC, we're kicking off our "West Bottoms Round," where we'll feature a brewery, distillery and winery in Kansas City's Historic West Bottoms. This week it’s Stockyards Brewing Co., the brewery that actually began our journey of seeking out great beer.
Tune in to hear about the KC's West Bottoms history, how Stockyards is authentic to the spirit of the district, and what we think of their Fox Trotter Scottish Ale. (Plus, catch a bonus "The Office" reference.)
This week on Drink KC, we're talking wine! Introducing KC Wineworks, a Crossroads Arts District winery in downtown KC dedicated to using 100% Missouri-grown wine grapes. With a special "Terroir" tasting that speaks to their passion for sharing their winemaking knowledge, winos (Roxi) and non-winos (Cory) alike will be ready to "Drink MO Wine."
This week on Drink KC, we talk about Restless Spirits in North Kansas City. Their proud Irish heritage comes through in their unforgettable, award-winning spirits, and it's safe to say we're big fans (and we think you will be too).
Tune in to find out how a chemistry teacher came to make a gin perfect for non-gin-drinkers, Builder's Gin, some funny memories about our memories with Sons of Erin, and what we think of the Gullytown, KC’s 1st single malt whiskey.
